I like the layout of the Sager keyboard and the touchscreen controls sound pretty sweet. Wish AW had the 16:9 screen option, that would be awesome.
-
-
most people hate 16:9 but then the people that liek 16:9 hate 16:10
-
I like 16:9 but don't hate 16:10.
-
Yeah, I don't hate 16:10 but nothing beats watching a 16:9 movie on a 16:9 screen
-
I support both also. The 16:9 screen on my wife's Sony FW 16.4" makes it look a little smaller than it really is.
-
People hate 16:9 because they believe they're getting robbed of pixels while the people who accept 16:9 have no reason to hate 16:10.
-
I prefer 16:9 due to it being wider
-
i do. but you dont find me or AW owners trolling in the sager forums.
most, if not all of your posts in the AW forums have been nothing but flamebait and pro-sager.
while i appreciate a contructive debate on pros and cons, you simply post anti-AW hatred.
honestly, why do sager peeps seem to "need" to come in the AW forums and post? please inform me as to what i am missing then...cuase i just dont get the desire you have to fulfill by posting in the AW forums...
edit: oh, and i did not see the post before the edit, so i dont know why you felt the need to edit it... -
I prefer which ever one is installed on my rig at the time.
As long as the picture is clean and crisp I can get used to just about any aspect ratio as long as it's widescreen. -
I think he just signed up to irritate some AW owners. Ignore those types and they'll eventually leave NBR.
-
i agree with Rob and Mandrake..... but more pixels is always nice
-
yeah i know....
but this time i really want to know why....
-
Oh I'm trolling now? Really, Alienware M17x vs Sager 9850 in an Alienware section of the forum isn't bias? Seriously, what statement have I made here that's not true or didn't make sense? Are you calling me a pro-Sager because my latest system is Sager? If what I say is related to Alienware, that's because I've owned several Alienwares to experience enough to back up my statement. Unfortunately for you, Alienware isn't perfect. When someone comes to ask a question, I talk of my experience and thought. I can guarantee you, if I wanted to post hatred towards anything, or you, it'll look a lot worse than it appears to you.
I felt bad in my first post, which ended up editing, but here you've earned it. It does not concern you what so ever where people read and write. Not having an Alienware doesn't mean there is no privilege to read and post in this section. What makes you so special? Anyone is welcome to post in any section of these forums, as I recall, but if you have a problem with that, that's entirely your issue. -
no contest for me. AW all the way. I don't want to get a North Face frame pack in order to lug around 18.4" of Sager.
-
Yeah the real advantage to the size is the 3rd hdd but that's not enough to go for the bigger system. I like every other aspect of the M17x over the Sager.
-
battery life FTW and pretty lights
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well it has the hdd and i know that the cooling is going to be great seeing that they used the same cooling i had and placed the fan right on the gpu isn't of using heatpipes to draw away the heat. and it has the fn+1 feature that allows you to make your fans go on full blast.
but i have to argee you really can't down the alienware at all. -
Pic of the M980nu's powerbrick:

and this is true and makes sense? this is flamebaiting and you know it. nothing contructive in this to compare one with the other as you supposedly say you have had previous units.
i never used the term "hatred"....this is a term of your choosing. this now shows me your true colors.
funny...all i was asking was for a "reason" of which you offered a glimps of, but then you got all bent out of shape...
AW FTW!!!!!
-
I tried both.
To be honnest, if you really don't care about look and if you NEVER want to move your notebook. Go for the Sager, a lot cheaper (if outside the US) and exact same performance with more HDD.
The keyboard is also "MAC/VAIO type" with separated keys. Personnally I don't like that, but some people appreciate I guess...
Therefore you should know that:
The Sager one is really not "Clevo type" this time. They are trying to make an AW design. At the same time, AW put "water in his wine" and the look is more sophisticated and professional.
Please check the back design!!!! In Japan we have a dumb panther/leopard with blue/red eyes...It doesn't appeal at all and it's really childish. I saw that the western clevo sellers are not doing this (their brand name with glowing blue/red instead). If you think the old AW alien head was weird -> you will cry.
I know you don't care about the look and honnestly I thought so...But the truth is that I preferred Sager before for its classic design over AW. Today this is the contrary.
About the performance these laptops are the same. One thing, don't use your sager under the light because you will be annoyed by the fingers prints all over the laptop body. The Nvidia guys in the exhibition I went left a plastic cleaner spray and cloth next to the laptop => it says it all.
When I was looking at pictures, I was going Sager. But when I saw the real thing -> AW ftw. -
Yup, looks the same size as my M17 brick/block. lol
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i said that. lol
it's the same brick i have now. -
You did Don.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol. so we know it using about the same power as ours.
-
Not so soon on that one Don.
The brick for my M9750 and M17 are the same size but have different power (voltage and amp) outputs.
I guess we'll find out soon enough though.
You said "about" so yes. -
lol. The M1730 is like that and it drove me nuts. Don't know why but it did.
-
Only thing i hate about that brick is the 5 or 6 prong dealy they use , those tend to break or bend what have you . Thats a major No No in my book.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
really. i have 4 i think on mines and it seems ok. (it better be ok lol)
-
I had a laptop years ago with a plug similar to that and it would shoot off sparks on occasion, i guess it just left a bad impression with me along with the fact that there fragile. i dont want to have to get behind something or look at it to plug it in and thats how they get bent is either by accident or being careless(or both).
-
well there is a nice nice review on the sager

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
oh ok i see what you mean. i wonder why sager went with this and stayed. maybe cost of getting a new one instead of keeping the same one as the d900 chassis.
-
You seem to forget who actually started this retarded "discussion" of yours. It's quite funny you mention constructive while yours is just plain trash talk without any reason at all.
Do you not even remember what you said? Read your post and you'll find where you mentioned hatred. I simply responded back to your unreasonable statement, which I now think I shouldn't have. You're a waste of time.
End of your flame. -
whoooooo
lets play nice
lalalala -
Chill out!
Lets stay on topic in this thread. -
design of the GPU and how they are cooled ... i thought some one asked -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
which is which
-
Looks like both pics are the same rig.
-
the left is the bottom and the roght is the heat sink over the card with the hheat pipes running to the bottom
-
I don't know why you come here to troll the Alienware Forums. Most people here that I know of are pretty mature and well above 'fanboyism'. They look at the products for what they are, pros and cons. If Clevo had a better product, you can bet people here would say so.
Go back to your Clevo elitist forum. We don't need your kind here. -
Wow.
I thought we were past all that.
-
ohhh god that last one was the worst so far.....
alright every one get back into you hole its about to get hot in here -
Sigh.. You guys are right.. there was troll bait and I got snagged. I'll stop posting since there's no need to fan the flames (unless I actually have something consturctive to say, about the topic, not trolling/flaming)
-
sorry guys but i have to set the record straight...
i stand corrected in my use of the word. my apologies.
but if i was a waist of time, why bother responding again?
AW FTW!!!!!!
-
Brush it off ryujin, we all know you're one of the good guys.
-
One monitor rez is 1920 by 1080 while the other is 1920 by 1200 right? Are there any benefits performance wise for one or the other? Like is one likely to get higher fps? Also, would the 1920 by 1200 monitor have a noticably better picture than the other one, or would there not be much of a difference?
-
The 1920 x 1080 is 1080p and 16:9 aspect ratio like many movies. The 1920 x 1200 is 1200p resolution with a 16:10 aspect ratio. They will get about the same frame rates. Some people prefer on over the other but I'm fine with either as long as the display looks good.
-
the alienware does get a glass screen that will cover the screen which will help cleaning and makes the picture nicer but does give a huge glare
-
That's a good point. Some people don't like the glass screen but I actually prefer it. I'm almost always in an environment where I can control the lighting.
-
WUXGA stands for Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array and is a display resolution of 1920×1200 pixels (2,304,000 pixels) with a 16:10 screen aspect ratio.
1080p is the shorthand name for a category of HDTV video modes. This creates a frame resolution of 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels in total.
approx diff of 230k pixels. while it seems like a big number (in terms of fill data and amount of), i highly doubt it will be something noticeable of one over the other.
it comes down to personal preference. -
That would be Moi
but it seems like this round of gaming rigs all got the glass overlay
. It drove me nutz on the W90 and its looking the same on the M17x , im very excited to hear from some users of what they think
. They could coat the glass in something not that does not produce so much glare, i have a TV with a glass cover that does not produce the perfect mirror effect though it does have some reflection.
