The rule they go by is a replacement build on the first system not on a replacement. So if you get a replacement that go's bad they don't make same or better on it , just on the first system. Some people get confused on that. Also if you are waiting on a replacement remember it prob will ship from Tenn that's where they put a lot of these together, and you won't know it shipped until it is half way to you. Just a thought.

    Alienwolf,

I miss the Nvidia gpu's and the luxury of switching to integrated but you are soo right about the Intel chipset and ATI combo running smoothly bringing about a totally new experience. I know that this is wishful thinking, but any thoughts that the R2 will be able to run a single 480 or 480's in SLI? Maybe that's asking too much.

    Rockwel B1,

Hang in there and keep constant contact with your rep, res expert, and Michael Dell, to resolve your case. I was in the same vote hoping to recieve a fully functional PC before school started back up. I fought long and hard for my replacement (10 months) and finally saw light at the end of the tunnel. My advice would be to wait for your replacement and then call Dell/Alienware and ask for a resolution expert explaining to him/her the reason for your call being that they sent you the same system and not acknowledging the fact that the R1 is extremely problematic and the only resolution to solve the problem would be to replace the system with an R2 with similar or better specs for the amount of money, time, and inconveniences that the defective system has caused you. I hope that this helps your situation.

Well, I think Nivida is going to have to come up with a plan. I see the contract with Alienware to big to lose or throw away. I see them coming out with a R2 with Nivida in it. I really think the hybrid as a good idea just not letting it interfere with the cpu.

Ok got new rig with i-7 820 and 4780 in crossfire. Ran proformance test on Dawn of War 2. With my 280sli and t9800. I got higher scores .Still runs on ultra in a playable manner but remember max fps before was 141 now 100 and average fps was in low 40's now 37. Is this just a case of some games running better on 280 . How do I verify that crossfire is running. On a good note no stuttering when game starts up. Anyone have 280sli and dawn of war 2. Maybe I am wrong about my old score.

If CF wasn,t running score's would be worse. Turn off and on CF in stealth mode to see if working. Do a benchmark 3Dmark06 or Furr to see how it runs. :D mine got 17075 in 3dmark06. Glade to see everything running good on your new R2..

Yep tried game without crossfire and ran much worse so xt is working. Have game on Ultra and still playable just a little worse than my old rig. Listen considering my old machine did not work at all much better :D But was expecting new sytem to beat old one. But screen is amazing no bsod or freezes. Question do new systems normally have up to date drivers ?

Another thing you may need to do is go into CCC and make sure everything is set right, I'm pretty sure it's not an ATi/Nvidia thing with DoW2 as they rep AMD(aka ATi) through the whole thing. I know I had to configure my whole system, especially CCC for my 5870 to run right.

Depending on your liking and what you're going for you can adjust the 3D settings like AA, AF, Minimap, etc. Default goes off of application settings(whatever game you're running). You can also set them to default to a certain level if performance drops, or to run at one set level. Also adjust powerplay to make sure that maximum performance is selected. Make sure XT is enabled as well. FalconMachV linked a CCC tweak guide that's got some good info too it's here: Catalyst Tweak Guide

Digging into bios and having some fun. Bio reads memory freqeuncy of 1333 . Does this mean my memory is 1333 or do all alienwares read that even if they have 1066 memory

Well. I finally got a call back from the on site technician again yesterday. Seems someone forgot to put that little bit of plastic film over the LCD screen. So while the back was just fine, the front? You guessed it. Scratched.

I'm not satisfied with trading one faulty part for another. Some people can deal with the scratches. Gamers cannot - it can adversely affect their game. So they're going to be calling me back today to discuss replacing my system.

Hamilcar, I would say double check it as Alienwolf said. If they sent you 1066 paired with an 820 and it's stating 1333 in the BIOS then someone needs to be shot on site. The 1333 in the BIOS means one of two things, either they mislabeled the RAM in the order and need to be informed of it to make sure it's covered under warranty, or someone adjusted the BIOS wrong from the factory and the RAM is running OC'd. If it's running OC'd there's bigger problems as the RAM they install is not the best for OC'ing and will go out very easy under that kind of stress. So double check it and call Tech to have it fixed one way or the other.

It should show on the order spec sheet what it is, mine said exactly this 317-3662 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz. It may also list the number such as DDR3 8500 which is 1066, or 10600 which is 1333. That way you can see what Dell thinks they sent, then verify it with CPU-Z. Hope this helps!

Just had the same exact issue. I took a few close up pics, called support, they shipped the screen, been golden since. You should have no problems getting another screen. If they ask for pics, make sure the screen is turned off. It'll show better.

Well after sending that email off to corporate I've been in contact with a rep from the Executive Customer Support Team and he called today to get some information from me. He said that they normally don't replace systems after 90 days with anything but a refurbished of the same thing, but would look into things for me and let me know tomorrow what he found out. So... *crosses fingers for an R2*

Rockwell the odds of them sending you a R2 are good, they always say that. They will try to build a refurb of same or better and after some time, you will get some spec's. Just go with the flow, because they called you they are going to work to make you happy. :D Hang in there and keep us posted.

Most likely the same thing. I imagine they have the specs for it, and I honestly would prefer an r1 over an r2. I don't have any really demanding games. And I could use the battery life.

Question. Would it be possible to swap hard drives? So that I won't lose any information?

Xalgon-Yes so long as you have the same exact specs and aren't running RAID you can.
Rockwell-As Alienwolf said, just be patient, you're most likely going to get an R2. There has yet to be one person in here that hasn't eventually gotten an R2 when they follow advice, unless of course they were content with an R1 or wanted an R1 like Xalgon.

And if they don't, wait til the return rep calls to see if you're returning the computer and mention it to them. They told me to keep any used hdd's as they don't get reused because it risks them having a lawsuit from a hdd that's not properly wiped and customer data being passed along....

How likely ARE they to give me a different machine? I mean, they didn't say anything about changing parts, so I assume it's likely to be identical. Not much CAN be upgraded on it anyways - just the RAM.

Not sure what your spec's were. But if you have told them you really want to keep the R1 and it is maxed out. Then I am sure thats what you will receive. But it prob will be a refurb as they are not building new R1's anymore so that cannt happen, right. Now if they can not find a R1 like yours in perfect shape then the team will put together a R2 with the top spec's to replace yours with. :D I hope that helps clear things up. Your Rep will work with you to see to it that you are happy ;)

Aren't the R1s the ones with the SU7300s? Or are any new ones of those also r2s? Because they're still selling the ones with the SU7300s. Unless there is something I don't know about they're selling both the r1 and the r2 for the m11x series.

R1 and R2 are just revisions Alienwolf, the M11x M15x and M17x all have R1's and R2's now. The M11x is the same on cpu's as the M17x, R1=ULV C2D R2=ULV i5/i7. As there haven't been any major design flaws found, the cpu you have is still available, and both models are available brand new you'll get the one you ordered. The only way they will change that is if they can't obtain major parts within 2-4 weeks of the replacement order. Hope this helps!

I have to say I probably wouldn't know much about the M11x if my wife didn't want one! And don't feel too bad guys, you pointed out the Magnussen-Moss act to me that I knew nothing about before Dwarf King(and without it I wouldn't be sittin pretty on an R2), and you pointed out the regedit/parked core trick that sped her up a bit Alienwolf! The computer world is too big to know everything, so we all come together on the forum and help each other out! ;)
