Beta Client Download
If you plan on playing the FFXIV beta at some point in the next 3 weeks, you can start the download of the beta client ahead of time.( http://www.fileplanet.com/215249/download/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Beta-Launcher ) FilePlanet has posted the installer for you to download. This 100MB installer will let you start downloading the open beta client, which is around 4.5GB in total.
I recommend the pre-download and updating cuz it says its going to take 26+ hours to update for the beta
Who all is planning on playing in open beta? and those of you that have played in the beta have you liked it so far with your M17x?
We should all join together and invade a server!!!![]()

-
wow i never played the FF serie but i think this one got me im might likely join the invasion
-
good man!! we have several others planning on doing the same!! the more the merrier and funner. i hate playing alone or with people whose comps crash every five minutes lol (Which actually might be us with these dell cf drivers hahah)
-
we might actualy not give a good image at AW if we assemble as NBR alienware team and keep crashing LOL
i'm really happy that the "old" m17 does not need to rely on dell's driver -
hahaha, we'll be fine
I'm so excited, woohoo, gonna download the client now
was actually playable last closed beta 3 framerate was between 20-60 fps (20 inside limsa lominsa)(outside between 40-60fps) (Cap was 60 fps). -
Yay! Im downloading now.....
-
Same here I'm dling it now too. Very slow atm though.
My mate is trying to as well but on WIN XP OS the client loader just crashes every time they try to load the client up to dl. Is FF not compatible with win XP like some other newer games?
Cheers. -
Does your mate have Service Pack #3 for win xp? that is noted in the minimum requirements on the ff 14 Official website. that could cause a problem if he doesnt
-
Cant wait... Didnt get into ANY of the betas, so open is nice to feel out the new game. FFXI after a year was just such a timesink. FUN... but ya know... life, married... want a kid. They don't go together.
-
He needs the latest graphic drivers nvidia or ati, which one he has, or it will crash.
-
I would not call having to buy a ps3 game to get a beta code an open beta.
-
It's much worse than that. Even if you did buy Final Fantasy XIII that code only grants you a PlayStation 3 FFXIV beta entry. You can't use it for the PC beta.
However, I completely agree. This beta is not open in any sense of the word. you still have to have a key to participate at this time.
Regards,
A FFXI player (since 2004) who did not get a invitation. Suck it, Square-Enix. -
I applied for the Beta like 2 months ago, and got a email for closed beta 2, there was never a key used for me, just Square-enix ID and application for Beta sent.
So please, where did you read about we need a key to participate in the Open Beta?
Also you are not correctly informed either about the FFXIII Code, it will also give you an item, as Square announced once. -
when you sign up at the square website and try to add ff it ask for a key.
-
This is obviously an error, and should not be applied to the Open beta and should concern the initial release only. Square-Enix also tells on their Account Page and on their Beta site, that the system will have maintenance on the 31. August. I'm sure they were just doing some testing and you will be able to register without hazzle for it, with a Square Enix ID only. But we will see as soon Beta opens again.
Please read this tidbit of info concerning the management update, regional settings and services:
http://account.square-enix.com/manual/en/attention.html
-
question. can you play this game on LAN? or single player without internet?
-
No. This is an MMO, online ONLY.
-
Congratulations. You were very lucky to receive an invitation.
Invitations sent directly from Square Enix don't seem to require a key. You just sign up in their system directly. Other websites such as ffxivcore, eorzeapedia were given 'keys' to give out to lucky readers. These could be redeemed for access to the beta.
Check out the fansites mentioned above. Interestingly, Square Enix mentioned that current beta testers need to register their account/codes or risk being unable to participate in the open beta. If the beta were truly 'open' you wouldn't need a code at all. Why is Square doing this?
Feel free to visit the many fansite forums discussing the topic.
Source: Important Message Regarding Open Beta
I was correctly informed about the Final Fantasy XIII code, I just forgot to mention the in-game item. In addition to the item, the pamphlet which came with the game specifically mentions that the key is only for a chance to participate in the PlayStation 3 Final Fantasy XIV beta. -

Is there anyone that can upload the 100mb to another site? I absolutely hate fileplanet, and I can't get their idiotic download manager to work for anything... not to mention I have to go off campus to even get to their site.
Or if you have any suggestions about troubleshooting, that would also be appreciated... I installed the activex plugin, but it just says "file manager download failed" and then sends me to their homepage. -
This is what i get when you try to add the service.

Me too. Let's hope that Grim is right and they let everyone in tomorrow. I'm still skeptical.

Beta Client Download
If you plan on playing the FFXIV beta at some point in the next 3 weeks, you can start the download of the beta client ahead of time. FilePlanet has posted the installer for you to download. This 118MB installer will let you start downloading the open beta client, which is around 4.5GB in total. Installing this does not mean youll be able to play, you will still need to have an open beta key attached to your Square Enix account to be able to log in.
Wow this is the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life -
If they were letting every one in why would they advertise that a ps3 exclusive was a beta code?
-
The Open beta is an Open beta in the original coinage of the phrase rather than what it is popularly taken to mean.
In this usage Open refers to the complete lifting of the Non-Disclosure Agreement, i.e. those who are fortunate enough to be invited to the Open beta are open to post videos etc and reveal information.
While there was a significant reduction in the amount of applicable terms of the NDA during Beta Phase 3 the NDA still applied with regards to video.
Incidentally, I haven't actually been invited to participate in the Beta myself, but I can wait the 3 weeks til my CE preorder comes in. Really looking forward to diving in to this game! -
Awesome dudes count me in ffxi AW team lawl pwnage ima dl this beta hope i can get in
-
I think i have to change my interpretation about needing a beta key for open beta.
Got an email today for the invite, you can apply for a beta key on the ffxiv site or the s-e account management on the 1. September. I only got the email in german, so i can't post its details for now. Will check if i can find someone that got the same email for instructions on how you get a beta key, should still be not a hazzle. We'll see when s-e did the account managent maintenance tomorrow. Cheers.
Edit: also i appologize Adderal for the little understatement on how you were informed or researched. I know the fansites have great insight aswell, but i normally only take official information serious and like to be sure it is something s-e confirmed. Thanks for the heads up tho, hope you will get a beta key anyway. -
hehe i actually found it in english on ffxivcore, damn i really have to check their site more often again as i used to be, was too much busy testing out the new drivers and vbios. here the most important thing that SHOULD concern ANY user: We ask that all users who can participate in the open beta test apply from the following website. and the statement for ps3 users: If possible, we still ask and encourage you to take part in the testing on a Windows PC.
I really would give out hate mails to S-E's direction, if they would only allow those from the beta before. But from the looks of it, it's like any other beta with other games, where you apply for a beta key, and if that gets issued, you get an email with your key.
Here you go:
-
Looks Like it has been Postponed. Darn i was looking forward to it.

Greetings Fellow FFXIV Fans,
Unfortunately the open beta has been postponed due to critical bugs that were recently discovered. There is no official ETA as to when and if the open beta will still happen.

FFXIV open beta officially starts tomorrow - Massively -
FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Application Site
Along with the completion on investigation and correction of the critical issue, we have decided to begin FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test on Sep. 1, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT).
Too bad I fly out of town at 3am, I'll be sleeping when this goes haha. (EDT here) -
I was going to play this until I heard about that Stamina system. Not touching it now.
Too bad, it looked fun too.
-
The fatigue system has been blown out of proportion by a lack of understanding and therefore guess-work.
I'd wait until release to completely give up on this, everything else is so promising and the system is not going to be as debilitating as assumed. -
hey i kinda was bummed out when i read that too but if u have played ffxiii u will need to lv other classes to get stronger since u can equip diff abilitys kinda like making ur own lighting in ffxiv
so 8x w/e many class u gonna do + craft and stuff i think thats alot of gametime

Greetings All,
Unfortunately, it looks like the open beta is off to a rough start. Not only has the registration server become overloaded, but for those that almost made it to the end of the registration, the final "Submit" button did not work due to incorrect java code.
Edit: Shorty after, square-enix updated the site with a "Please try again due to server congestion."
Thanks,
Gabe -
Anyway to make that submit button work?
-
Hi anodize,
I tried everything I could think of, but it seemed as though the "submit" button wasn't attached to an action in the java code. The solution requires the website designers to fix it, with no easy workaround. I can only imagine how many thousands of users are trying to register with no success at all. Currently, I can't even begin the registration process anymore. I'm simply met with a "Please try again later due to server congestion."
Thanks,
Gabe -
Damn, and I've spent so much time downloading the game client. Thinking it might not be worth doing the open beta then if it continues with all this trouble.
-
Greetings,
For those of you that got as far as the "submit" button before your application failed, try the following link:

Thanks,
Gabe -
Nice one GabeZ, it worked and I received the mail with Beta key, thanks a lot
Edit: Well I'm in, but i guess I have been a little too optimistic with graphics settings and the game is running far from smoothly... too bad i ain't have time to test more options now, so if anyone have good settings for our Alienware, please share.
Edit2: I wonder what are "ambiant oclusion" and "depth of field" are for, after desabling them, the game runs perfertly with highest other settings including shadows. -
Finally worked. Thx a ton, Gabe!
-
Still down.
Server error.
Is any where we can download the client please?
Thanks -
worked great thanks!
-
