What error codes exactly are you getting?
I was getting three error codes during download and it turned out to be my antivirus. If your anti virus has blocked a file just allow it then turn off system protection for the download.
-
i'm running the updater again now, if it fails ill post the error code.
I've turned off my Antivirus (Microsoft Security Essentials) and disabled Windows Firewall (for the time being).
Right now its CHECKING the update file. -
Ok got error message
An update error has occurred
Error 20619
Error 19901
Error 13 -
Have you gone into MSE and allowed the file it is blocking, when I went in it had "disinfected" part of the ffxiv beta and as soon as I allowed it, turned off the antivirus and ran the updater again it worked.
Hope this works for you as well! -
hrm,. well, i went into MSE and excluded the folder that FFXIV is in so we'll see if that helps. I also turned off Utorrent that was doing some downloading to see if that helps.
-
I don't even use the updater anymore. I open it, let it grab the torrent, then use that to download whatever patch it is via uTorrent. After the first 30 minute freeze of 0.0b/s download speed I figured out how to do that and its way better(for me) than using the updater itself.
-
Finally got it working by making it an exception in mse
-
So who's playing and what server, I'm in Wutai.
-
same! Wutai too!
-
I'm Wutai also
Isaak Quek
-
Angellus Frost here. -
If it tells you Isaak Quek added you, thats me -
So i finally got everything working but now I can't find any decent settings that work with this game. Can the M17x really not handle this game with high settings?
-
I have my textures up high and stuff, but all the additional options that come by default unchecked I didnt even look at, because the game seems perfectly fine and visually enjoyable to me without them.
So basically, these are the graphics settings im using on my M17x:
I suggest NOT running the game in fullscreen(even if you go the max supported size for your monitor, leave the fullscreen/windowed setting set to windowed) because when I was running full whenever you would tab away or minimize it the client would crash saying a DirectX device could not be found. -
cool thanks, i'm going to try out these settings now. But shadows off in game? thats a big sacrifice isn't it.
-
I also have Dust Effects off, because I have no clue what that does and I didnt notice any difference with it off. -
Could someone help me out here please. I just registered the beta account on the square enix site and when I try to login to the beta test site, after typing the password, it just bounces me back to the screen with
Code:The FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Site can only be accessed by those who have been granted Beta Test accounts. Beta testers can log in from the link below using their Square Enix Account.
Anything I am doing wrong, or something I didn't activate/confirm, etc? -
Theres another button on the beta page it bounces you to, I think it says "Close". Click that, it should show you the actual beta page.
-
1. It doesn't seem to work well with Google Chrome, try in another browser and see if that works.
2. I have an EU Square Enix account yet the email they send was linking me to dev-na, by changing this to dev-eu I was now able to log in. -
Wutai in the house as well
Idlehand Tathos -
Not sure if the most recent patch has included some sort of hardware optimization, but when I was playing a minute ago both my GPUs were up to 90+% load.
Might be worth checking yours again to see if the patch has done anything for it? -

Just tried to install dells beta drivers, but the game crashes if i want to go ingame after login. So back to the reference drivers again i guess...
Edit: Yay, it's scaling completly now, after i uninstalled the beta and installed the reference drivers 10.8 back, all settings to max. except 4xAA not 8x, finally working. Awww, too bad it's already late, but it's weekend soon and i will see if the effect stays, even when i'm going to restart the laptop now, but atleast i know now it is possible. Didn't have fps counter on, so i will have to see how smooth it was actually running. More on that later, good night for now -
Not sure why it would crash you with the dell beta drivers...I'm definitely running the 8.763 drivers....
Curious.. -
is crossfire working now?
-
-
Essentially, it uses both graphics cards but it doesn't provide improved performance over one graphics card as far as I can tell. So it recognises crossfire but doesn't actually use it in any intelligent way.. -
-
yea man damn game better run awesome or else i say we sue dell for false advertisement saying most powerful laptop in universe and cant run ffxiv max Lol i hope ur right about the 10.9 cuz would suck to see same thing on swtor
-
And for S-E, i know they can do better, this engine they use, guess its the Crystal Tools (formerly known as White Engine), is a very special multiplattform engine to develop on it, High Quality Standards (or Anti-Standards lol) and the latest Functions along it, but not that userfrienldy to work with i suppose (also this is the first game for windows they are using this engine for). So for me it's also up to ATI to get their drivers working well for this, i hope they fix it soon with release or shortly after, but hopefully not more than 2 weeks after inital limited edition release. But as there was already a CAP released with support for FFXIV, i'm sure with the next CAP there should be an update, if the full version is not already supported with 10.8. For now, we should just say it's the Beta, everything else is too much speculation and of course not accurate at all. Still confident though -
Well another new patch and now my game won't load....just need to keep reminding myself it is a beta! Hope I can play again with the next patch lol. I'm running the most recent drivers and catalyst profiles etc...
-
So i'm trying to play the darn thing but for the past few 5 days ive been downloading at crazy 980 bps. :|
Tried from 3 or 4 different locations, the same. I doubt I can make it by the end of the obt. -
C:\Users\"USER"\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\bca2a8ae\metainfo
or
C:\Users\"USER"\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo
open the torrent(s) in uTorrent (my favorite BT Client) select download directory
C:\Users\"USER"\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta
replace "USER" with your actual windows account name, and you can download much faster. If you selected the wrong path, copy the downloaded file into it's respective folder, and once it's done restart the FFXIV Client and it should rehash/verify the content and install the patch.
You can do this with any patch they release once you atleast got a message in the client like "Downloading in Progress [1/2] then you have to open all the latest 2 torrents for example.
uTorrent also verifies content that you actually downloaded already and can resume the download from the FFXIV client IF you select the CORRECT path.
Good Luck (Open Beta ends in 10 Days)

Before playing, idle in Windows:
After playing 3 minutes, outside Gridania.
Screenies...
Login(60fps constant):
Ingame (15-20fps):
EDIT: Weird, i just tried it with my other char, i'm on the intro for Limsa Lominsa with that, and the GPU's are scaling much better on that one, around 80% each... -
I haven't crashed again but it seems like they haven't optimised quite right yet.. -
Do you have also such low send ratio? receive ratio is going up and down widely and gives me some nice lag when i walk around, like a stuttering.
Well something can't be right if i get 15fps and the gpus are only at 40% both, there should be room for more no?. I'm sure if i just disable Crossfire right now, and i go into the exact ingame spot, i get the same performance and like 70-80% load on a single gpu.
Edit: Totally nuts, besides scaling a little better, fps is also better at around 20-30fps noticable, scaling from 60-98% ingame, on single gpu:
-
My average send:receive ratio is about 1:5. I take it that is what is causing the massive lag when I am attacking. Quite often I'll see no attack animations until the monster is dead it's so slow.
Looks like the crossfire support is even more limited than we suspected then if it is currently detrimental to performance lol! Will have to play it on 1 card for now then...
EDIT: I'm also finding that NPCs take an age to load into the environment, quite frustrating! -
-
There is always SW:TOR in a few months, or Guild Wars 2 next year which has the benefit of not making you feel guilty for not playing because it's free... -
Anyone else playing this on an m11x? I'm trying to find a good balance of settings and need some help ... also my mouse is lagging like crazy, makes the thing near unplayable.
Right now I have shadows down all the way, no aa, native resolution, and ambient occlusion off (I think its off, the box isn't checked). Anything else I can do in game/out of game? I'd like to try to avoid messing with the textures if possible ... need my prettiness. -
However, either I've gotten used to it or it is improved today...it definitely feels sharper than it has done. -
Beyond that though ... are there any ingame settings that I can modify? (Like the 'physics' thing ingame, for example, or any of the other settings ... no idea what they do). And am I correct in assuming that ambient occlusion is "off" unless I check the box? Thanks! -
I don't think the ingame graphical settings really make the world of difference, they are however in game settings so you could turn them all down to minimum then turn on the things you want until the frame rate becomes unacceptable? -
Also it's not about throwing out money out of the window, i will play this game no matter what. It's just to see if the investment i made into this laptop holds up to what it promises. I won't play the old republic nor a free-2-play mmo like guild wars 2, as i know the content will 100% satisfy myself in FFXIV. I don't see any problem there. -
I'm pretty sure FFXIV will do it for me for the next few years as well - since the M17x will be able to play this well, and it'll be one of the only things I play in the next few years I won't need to replace my rig for a while to come! -
I've been finally able to play it on my M15x. Doesn't run too well. Currently trying on my native rez (1600x900) with all settings to low and I get mid 30 fps. Using 10.6 drivers. This is fairly disappointing....
-
-
I'd like to believe that, but the game is only a few weeks from being released first on Sept 22. I don't know if it will change much. I guess new drivers from ATI might help, but don't know if that will make such a huge difference.
