The blade and the blade stealth have very different cooling requirements.

Haha neah, not yet. Im looking for a spare heatsink. Once i get that ill paste it with CLU, because by chance i need to use the warranty they will whine about the custom paste.Last edited: May 12, 2016Papusan likes this.

Well i did have the blade pro as well, and sold it to a friend. Never had any issues, with it.god1729 likes this.

Hahaha you will be surprised how Razer laptops have their cooling mounted. There is no heatspreader connected to the heatpipes. So there are just 2 heatpipes running on top of the CPU die and the space between the heatpipes is filled with thermal paste. No joke.
Those pipes you see touch the CPU & GPU directly with those gaps.

And also have to have shoulder surgery

LOL, A good paste must help in this mess...Are Razer's engineers sober when they design something like this mess, or perhaps they go on speed? Thinner the better? I would never buy this even if I loved BGA!!
-
What the heck... LOL. I've seen desktop heat sinks that utilize direct contact with heat pipes, but those are generally very precision formed with a machined surface where the pipes mate with the die. Conceptually, it's a great idea when done right. What is shown in that photo is extremely crude, to the point that I am shocked that it works at all. And, the chance of Liquid Ultra getting on the aluminum around the heat pipes and eating them up is really great.Papusan likes this.

I'll probably never go back to Alienware. It's too much Dellienware now.
Sager / Clevo or a desktop build. That's where the champions go.Ashtrix likes this. -
DELLIENWARE, Razer and EVGA are now main rivals on sales of thin, lightweight portable gaming laptops. First began Razer in this genere, then DELLIENWARE and now the new one EVGA. They are not very interested in making desktop replacement. This is their own choice. Clevo, Msi, Asus and even ACER the newcomer, make thicker models for desktop graphics. But only Clevo can deliver true performance... Aka models with fully proper desktop hardware.Ashtrix likes this.

Ayy go away. The Blade Stealth is a nice portable ultrabook. Stop hating,

Are you afraid that Razer will be outdone by its new competitor Alienware?
No hatred. Just not my style
. You should know that

Razer is definitely not the first.
Actually Clevo is one of the first. Offering an 11 inch gaming laptop which was fairly small and light with a Geforce 550M inside.
Sony was one of the first offering 13inch machines with dedicated gfx at that time. I sitll consider the Vaio Z1 series one of the best laptops ever made. If you actually used on in those days you would know why I say this. Quad SSD's in raid 0 for maximum speed was unheard off in those days. -
If I just look at quality of razer peripherals then I would think twice before buying something bigger like laptop from them.
-
their chassis itself is actually well made, but the screenlid not so much, so people report after a while that they have white spots " lcd bruising" on their screens after some pressure on their screenlids.
And the motherboards are hampered by poor cooling and soldered not so reliable transcend memory chips. But if they could make that chassis for a more reliable machine it would be pretty good. -

I happen to think that the quality of Razer products are top of the line. I have never had any problems with any of the dozens of Razer peripherals that I have ever purchased. I also owned the 2014 Razer Blade 14 inch and found it to be quite serviceable as a ultra portable gaming laptop. Though I do agree that it did have heating issues when playing serious games. What is it you have against Razer products? -

By the way, I am now with Alienware Laptop. I just received my brand new AW 15 r2 version with touch screen
-
Latest mouses are crap. Mouse pads are crap. All these products dies within short period of time because of their low build quality
-
I myself have a dozen of Razer products. SOme stuff are really nice. The Razer Mako speaker system still lives on my desk after use for 6 years and is solid.
The Razer Deahstalker that I use is okay. It has sometimes the glitch that a C key seems to be pressed but it isnt. Causing a row of "c" characters until I press another key, The Razer Naga Hex that I have isn't assembled correctly so it has an uneven based and wobbles until I fixed it myself. I had a Razer Deathadder with a failing scrollwheel button. Even though I hardly use that button. I can go on and on.
Now Using a Logitech G502 mouse on my laptop which serves me perfectly and a Roccat Kone XTD on my desktop which has been my daily driver for 3 years now without a single issue. -
I used to have a Razer Orochi and bought it because it was Bluetooth and I hate wires. I also like to avoid USB ports when Bluetooth is available. It was too small, had terrible battery life, would constantly go to sleep to save battery power, and finally stopped working. I replace it with a Logitech G700 and never looked back. It fits my hands better, stays connected and the wired re-charging feature is to die for. I don't think I will ever own another mouse that lacks that feature. Being able to plug into USB and re-charge without missing a beat is an invaluable feature.

Computex is currently ongoing in Taipei, quite disappointed Alienware is not present to showcase any redesign or refresh of their laptop lineup. What is their R&D currently doing?
-
Probably they are looking towards Intel to let them mount new CPU with Iris powerful GPU so the laptops will be thinner and so powerful.

Or they haven't something to show! Dell go their own way now. Refreshing a new rebadged model with same Gtx980m+ Optimus isn't for VR. Remember VR machines is the big now. Aka thicker laptops with desktop graphics.
Pascal graphics isn't here yet. Therefore push OEM's out old Maxwell desktop graphics. For the VR's sake!!Last edited: Jun 1, 2016 -
Today AMD releaseda new GPU which only needs 150watt and is VR ready. VR doesnt equal big. The fun detail is that 980M equipped optimus laptops do run VR with some tweaks.Caladdon likes this.

Yeah I know. But I wouldn't use single Gtx980m for a smooth VR experience. And I think Dell wouldn't put in +150w graphics in their thin laptops they have today. People need to wait for Pascal if they want VR ready machines. Because Dell still prefer to make slim lightweight Alienware laptops for Max portability and want to sell their graphics amp. Dell is late to the VR party. Same as they were too late with 980m.
-
I did Steam VR test and got smooth framerate with two GTX 880M 8GB

880M Sli is a faster setup than a single 980M.
BTW Even Aorus gaming notebook coming now with GTX 980 for VR. Nearly all big brand push out VR machines now...

my 980m has passed the steam vr bench mark but i wouldn't want to use the laptop to actually run VR
-
arn't multi gpu configs currently unsupported by vr
-
-
If you are talking about using the SteamVR Test program, then to enable multi-gpu testing, you need to add a Launch Option => -multigpu
It's not part of the implementation of VR Ready apps/games so far, but multi-gpu is part of the api's and spec's going forward, same for Vulcan and DX12, maybe developers will improve support, someday.
For now, get at least a 970 / RX480 desktop, or a 980 laptop.
OC'd 980m SLI laptops have been reported to work, but I wouldn't count on it supporting everything with full effects.
Probably best to get all the GPU you can now to support future apps, so get a 1080 desktop, or 1080/1080m laptop when they are available.Last edited: Jun 1, 2016
For the first time since May of 2007 I am without an Alienware Laptop!
