I play league of legends a lot.
When someone pings it lights the keyboard purple, when someone is attacking you it lights it up red. When you are being targeted it lights up yellow.

    Thats about it.

Very cool that games are starting to support this. I'll throw my hat in for hoping WoW support happens :) Just getting back into the game for Cataclysm. I have The Witcher: EE on Steam, haven't played it...will certainly have to give it a shot on the laptop.

The games is on sale for "Games for windows live" Use the client kinda like steam and it is 99cents. The client is buggy as hell and what did you expect from microsoft but for 99 cents and ALIENFX. :D

Yeah i think its built into the API for the games... if that is true i just found my internship project for Blizzard :)

I bought a stack of LUA books for some Christmas break fun. From what i hear they like their potential interns to submit mod projects just to show you know your stuff. Plus it will get my mind off of Advanced C programming :p.

If i make a mod ill be sure to post it, if i see it as a easy task ill make another post to ask what you guys would like to see as far as colors are involved.

I'm already excited and I'm only typing about it :) one more week of finals then ill start on LUA scripting.

Sounds really awesome! I look forward to seeing it. :)

I think if it's an addon we should be able to change the colors ourselves, right? That or couldn't you either make a GUI to change colors or just give us the source to do it ourselves?

    Thanks!

Diablo 3 would be great, period!
We have been waiting several years for it and still nothing. In the meantime graphics have evolved significantly which would seriously outdate the current proposed Diablo 3. My guess is we will never see it ...unless they redesign the game completely so that the characters are full size as with most games today.

I'm using my m17x R3 to play LoL and Eve, atm on EVE my keyboard glows blue by default (doesn't go black), then blinks yellow when shields get low, havn't played enough to have it blink red, but i assume it will.

On League of Legends, the keyboard is Green while i'm alive, Blinks yellow when i kill a creep (yellow for gold), flashes blue when someone pings, goes white when i'm dead, and has a HP critical one that changes lights to red.

just finished the Dungeon Siege III demo and couldn't figure out what the heck was happening to my M18x lights and I realized "Oh crap this game supports AlienFX!"

    Dungeon Siege III confirmed :)

I just noticed that Witcher is listed on here, and I'm in the 4th chapter and haven't noticed any changing lights.

Any clues what it is supposed to do?

So I've been working with CoH Tech Support and they've narrowed down a crashing bug that relates to the Alienfx tie in....as soon as the game loader gets to "Initializing HW Lights" COH crashes, apparently it's a known issue to CoH but they don't particularly seem to care....

They want me to completely uninstall the Command Center in order to play CoH...

I need a fix for this....is there a way to stop CoH from trying to access the AlienFX settings? Anything?

    HALP! :)

What is the bug causing the crash? Do you have specific details?

A workaround would be to right click on the AlienHead in your tasktray and uncheck 'Enable 3rd Party AlienFX Access'. See if that works.

Damn...that sounded like a perfect fix but alas...no such luck.

When I try to load up City of Heroes, the game gets to the command line: "Initializing Hardware Lighting" and promptly crashes, providing the error message: "City Of Heroes has encountered a problem and needs to close. The crash occurred in KERNELBASE.dll"

CoH Tech support says that is the line in which CoH tries to access AlienFX....

And sorry about the duplicate post...it wouldn't let me delete this one :-/

Here is a screen shot to make it a bit clearer

You'll need to fix your image - the image you are trying to link to is on their support side and its a secure link (https).

Just attach the image(s) to your post. Use the Go Advanced button and look for the paperclip icon.

I want to point out that I played City of Heroes last night, with AlienFX enabled, and it worked fine, played for about 5 hours. I usually disable AlienFX in City of Heroes graphics options though, because the flashing keyboard irriates me. If you go to Menu -> Graphics tab, scroll to the bottom of that tab and you will see the AlienFX (enable/disable) option.

Try to boot CoH in safe mode and disable that.

Also wanted to ask, why is that command prompt there? Is that something you added? Because when I load CoH, I just open the NCLauncher, click on my CityOfHeroes option and hit "Play" and I instantly get the blue "Loading" bar.

Also have you tried the Game Advisor Diagnostic Tool from their help site?

    View attachment CrashLog.txt

They had me run the game advisor several times. As for the command prompt, they had me run it that way so that they could see the exact moment the game was crashing, which was when it tried to initialize the alienfx, according to them.

Strangely enough, the game won't even boot up in safe mode for me to deactivate that option...it crashes with the same error every time...

This didn't start happening until about 2 CoH updates ago...up until then it worked perfectly.

    I appreciate the help guys

Also, here is the results of the Game Advisor Test

Well I finally got frustrated and uninstalled the Command Center, then reinstalled it and now City of Heroes runs fine....

Downside? Apparently it deleted my Aliensense and the new install did not reinstall it....I sacrificed my spiffy face recognition for CoH? Boo.

Know how to get it back?

Shouldn't have. Make sure you are using the current AWCC for your model.

The older models (M11xR1/R2, M15x, M17xR1/R2) are stuck with the 2.5.54.0 version.

The M11xR3, M14x, M17xR3 and M18x all use a newer version which can be found on their driver support page @ support.dell.com.

I believe you are on the 11xR2 so your AWCC is here.

    Suggest the following:

    1. Uninstall Alienware Command Center using the Programs & Features Control Panel.
    2. Once uninstalled, reboot into Safe Mode (F8 @ the BIOS screen) and then run CCleaner's registry module. 'Fix' any issues CCleaner finds with the registry. Once done, reboot the system.
    3. Once back at the desktop, install AWCC.
    4. Once install has completed, reboot the system.

    See if AlienSense has returned.

Yeah, tried that already. Apparently the M11xR2 AWCC doesn't come with Aliensense? I dunno....but thats where I got the copy I have installed now.

Ahh well, thanks for trying to help guys, most appreciated!

It just changes based on what phase you are in, I think red was battle, it changes to what ever color your deck is normally.

I only played it for a few minutes before I had to leave for work. I will try to get some more indepth testing on it tonight.

If by 'mail clients' you mean Outlook. . . then yes. I don't think it works with any other client, even it its set as your default mail client.

Unless I am missing something huge. I poked around for a while and could not get it to work with Thunderbird.

I would very much like to see more games add stuff for this. Or even a tool that lets you add it to games, but I know that would be SO complicated that its best not even to think about it. T__T

I wish Battlefield 3 incorporated AlienFX. Especially helpful when I'm flying the chopper because with me talking to my teamates and all the guns shooting at me as a I fly low, it's kinda hard to hear the "lock on" sound and I usually get shot down before I deploy flares hehe
