So I'm new to overclocking. Do I need all the tools mentioned in Moo's first post or are all those just different options to choose from.

    Sorry and Thanks

Hi, I am new to this and confused. I have tried to OC the CPU in the Bios, I have stock memory frequency of 1333 and FSB 1066 (which seems to be the exact opposite of Moo's i.e. his FSB was 1333 and memory frequency 1066) and am running QX9300. I have tried increasing the FSB to 1077 and when booting the screen is black, do I need to adjust the memory aswell??

My CPU is currently at 2.53 both in the Bio and running CPU-Z.

BTW I have stock bios driver

Try leaving your memory and fsb on auto setting and just change your multi to 11.

I am getting really fed up with NST >.< Whenever I try to load a profile I have saved the screen goes funny and I have to restart the computer. Also, sometimes for no apparent reason, loading up crysis or running furmark or w/e the screen will just go black and my computer stops responding, this happens whether my gpus are overclocked or at default settings...I never had any problems before installing NST. I am going to uninstall NST because I am really getting frustrated lol, anyone have any suggestions for a similar program that would actually work properly?

    No only the CPUs.

You could flash the cards though with what ever clocks you desire instead of using NST but thats not for faint of heart :).

I think 3.6 is my limit, nvidia isnt working out for me. if i go up by a bit and i start something bang blue screen of death aaaaah
Nvidia says i have 3.66 GHz but OCCT can only get 3.51 out of it, how much do i have now im confused?

the fsb value in the 300-400 region (not the 1200-1600 region) times your multiplier

So I'm a little confused I used NST to overclock my cpu and got up to around 3.5 GHz according to NST. However OCCT showed that I was still only around 2.8 GHz not going above that. Do I need to restart computer for NST overclocking to take effect

The problem is the processor is stepping the speed back down... I wish there was a way to shut that off in the BIOS but there isn't that I can find. My clocks will show like 1999 until I use something that maxes the processor, then I see the true speed its running at.

So is that just a problem with some cpu's or is it a constant thing? Jeffa has the T9600 and he was saying that he was able to get his overclocking. I guess evilgenius has the T9600 too and he posted an overclock of 3.66 GHz.

It's eist. It will back down when it's not being fully used(cpu utilization) it's useful....

If cpu-z says that you are at 3.5ghz then you are at 3.5ghz

    Two questions

    1) What are the advantages/Disadvantages of increasing Memory frequency in Bios. Will I notice a difference?

I noticed that both the Memory frequency and CPU FSB before were both 1066. I Changed my FBS to 1220, so should Mem be the same?

    2) What about OC the GPU using the Nvidia tool. Will I notice any difference with my 260M during gameplay/regular pc usage? Basically...is it worth OC'ing the GPU

    Thanks guys!

es it was at 3.66 and i passed the occt test but i feel my computer worked alot better by staying under 3.5 GHz so im going back down untill new drivers and a bios update come along

Hey everyone so I overclocked my cpu in Nvidia system tools put it up to 297 MHz with an 11 cpu multiplier, so I should have an overclock at about 3267 MHz. I saved settings restarted computer. After restart I opened up CPU-z and still got 2803 MHz at 10.5 CPU multiplier. Shouldn't it be higher than this?

"iNvidia" don't tell me Apple bought them...ahhhh!!!

OK in all seriousness why bother with NST? Why not just do it in the bios?

One other question, how did you change the multiplier?

oooohhh you're seeing speed step when the multiplier changes.

If you are using NST it doesn't give you a chance to unlink the memory:fsb settings. I would personally only use NST for GPU OC. If you still want to use NST you can create a profile with your settings and then set it to be the default profile when Windows loads. Normally if you make a change to the default settings it will ask you if you want it to load at boot up. You will probably also want to make sure you have the latest version of NST. The older versions have a delayed start at startup.

So your saying that it isn't using my saved profile to boot up. I need to set my saved profile as the default? What would happen if I unlinked Memory and FSB in the BIOs I feel comfortable doing that at least. Would that make a difference in my NST overclock?

unlink them and set both to 1850 like mandrake told me, i have the same processor. you should be above 3.00 GHz. then stresstest with OCCT and if there is no problem after 1 hour of testing you can raise them both at the same speed. example: memory»1250 fsb»1250 if ok try memory»1260 fsb»1260 and do the OCCT test again

I went up to 1333 for both before having errors but my best stability is between 3.4 and 3.5 GHz anything above that and its harder to login and stuff but it still runs

Im running my old school m9750 trying to overclock the bios. i hit F2 at the alien face when to advance and there is now where it say "Overclocking." and what kinda numbers are other m9750 owners getting optimal performance at on core/shader/memory?

Aight so I went ahead and followed Mandrake's and the3vilGenius's advice and set my Memory and FSB to 1250 in the BIOs. Then ran OCCT and HWMoniter My CPUs didn't go above 60 degrees but the GPU got up to 81 is this where I should stop since the GPU got up to 81

ok. this is what you do. start small.
use the bios and raise the clocks slowly by like 10 and run prime for 5 mins. then keep on doing that until you bluescreen.

then the clock speed before you blue screen run prime for an hour. then if you pass. run occt for 20 mins. you should be good.

    that's the easy way.

Yeah I read in your first post that GPU temps around 85c. If the GPU reaches its critical temp before CPU isn't that going to be the reason for the crash. I'm thinking that I might overclock GPU through NST so should I stop overclocking Memory and FSB in the BIOs
