which GPU are you talking about ?
open HW monitor and then post it here

the 9400m is your chipset which means when you overclock the cpu its gonna go up in temp
and you never STRESS you 9400m
this whole conversation is for naught. So stop worrying about it and just be happy overclocking
the only GPU you neeed to worry about is the 280's/260's. -
Ok what do I use to monitor my 260's temps?

Hey guys, so I managed to get my t9600 up to a 3.4125 from a 2.8 nice and solid in game and out with temps around 67 max. All well and good. Tested the crap out of both viddy cards for the last week(2 x 280) and found the higest clocks/shaders that both cards can reach together using EvilCorsairs guide and Moos suggestions, using nvidia tools and checking actuals using gpuz to confirm. Now I wanna flash em (which i have done before on numerous desktops and have never had a problem) and make it permanent. Have the backup roms and new roms with updated clocks ready, bootable usb and all the other stuff set to go... and then it dawns on me: I have 2 cards in there, is it even possible to use nvFlash to do multiple cards WITHOUT removing them and doing them one at a time then reassembling? I am thinking there is no way to specify a second card through DOS right? Any thoughts?
-
You can do both it's a option you put in but I can't remember it for nvflash

all you have to do to flash is this:
nvflash -i0 XXX.rom
nvlfash -i1 XXX.rom
i0 and i1 choose the PCI-e slot to flash too. They require seperate commands as you can only do one at a time. I have done this with the 9400m on or off, so does not matter. This is all I do.
What clocks were you able to get out of your GTX280m's? -
sweet, thanks dudes for the quick responses. I'll have to give it a go prolly tonightish, possibly tomorrow.
@scook: +1 rep. I'll have to check the numbers and will post em for each card individually. One of my cards was willing and the other wasn't as co-operative at all, I think it averaged out to a little over an extra 100 mhz on all clocks for both when I did the roms up. The more agreeable card was clocking higher on all, but the other started crapping out early so I am using the lesser cards max. Max temps at 77 at heavy load in OCCT and Furmark with the cryo running.
For all the games that truly support sli at this moment, i was tempted to just go with just using the one higher clocking card -

why is everyone overclocking for gaming??????
i'm so confused. my 9800m gtx single card maxed out every game i put on there fine. it was at 500/1250/800. aka big difference from 585/14??/950.
even my 3870 crossfire maxed out games with the exception of 3.(btw my ati's blew out my single nvidia) -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya I only actually overclock for my benchmark runs, for 24/7 use and games I am always bonestock (even have the 9400m on haha)
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well i do the same. after benchmarking (which i don't do alot of) i put it back to stock clocks.

well i read about some guys here looking for ways to change bios settings so that you can maybe unlock muliplyers and stuff like that.
Well i ran into this i dont know if it helps but i just thought id share it
http://www.uefi.org/home
The Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) is a specification that defines a software interface between an operating system and platform firmware. EFI is a much larger, more complex,[1] OS-like[2]:4 replacement for the older BIOS firmware interface present in all IBM PC-compatible personal computers.[2] The EFI specification was originally developed by Intel, and is now managed by the Unified EFI Forum.

Its not for me i saw some people looking for something to change the bios. think it was moo and mandrake.

Hi what are good values for the gtx260m to overclock to? I have a cryo lx so heat is not too big of an issue, just the highest stable clocks
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
600/1500/950

i had mine dual 260s at 650/1625/1100. ran futuremarks 06 and vantage twice. no problems at all.
-
260 love overclocking ....
Cooler you get them higher they will overclock -

I have a little issue.
When I try to overclock the FSB setting by only 10, on restart my screen is black and nothing happens, so I have to hard shutdown and change it back.
My default settings are FSB at 1066 and Memory at 1066. Any help on this? I'm trying to increase my CPU's speed. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Use a bigger number
Go to like 1280. Low overclocks cause odd divisors and create system instability -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
yeah 1280 is a good start, worked for me and we have same processor so that should be good for you as well.
-
Alien_M4v3r1kk Notebook Evangelist
Gah, bluescreened with OCCT.
I set it to 1200 MHz now.
edit: What program should I use to see my current CPU speed while overclocking? And for gaming should I overclock my CPU or GPU, or both... -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
keep trying
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
CPU-Z to see CPU speed, but you do no need to (or want to) run it while runnign OCCT
Overclocking the CPU will give you better all around performance. Overclocking the GPUs will help even more for gaming (and only gaming - unless you use alot of CUDA apps) -
Hi,
I am a newbie to the overclocking scene. i'm currently using a t9600 and would like to overclock it. however i need some numbers for the FSB frequency and the CPU frequency. thanks alot -
Look at the few posts above yours. They are discussing the OC'ing of a T9600.

people never read anymore

Or the first page .... I made this so you can test and try it your self ....

thanks guys
-
Hi,
another noob question. May i know how do i take out the CMOS battery? may i have a step by step guide pls thanks. -
If your looking to reset your OC settings it will automatically do it for you after 3 failed boots.
-
Oh, thanks for that.
-
Hey beef let me know if you need any help with oc on your t9600 I have mine overclocked and I've helped a few other people. PM me when you have enough posts to PM
-
ok sure will do that
-
Just overclocked P8600 to 2.81GHz by setting BIOS FSB to 1250.
Ran 3DMark06 and got 10700 @2.7GHz and 10908 @2.81GHz..... amazing how much 0.11GHz could do. Some says 3DMark06 isn't the most accurate benchmark tool out there so who knows.
As for the CPU testing scenes in 3DMark06.... where there's like a desert siege battle, my FPS was like 0-2 lolz....what kind of crazy CPU would you need to get that FPS up to 30?!?! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The world record in 3DMark06 is like 6 fps for that scene, dont sweat it lol
That is meant as a CPU test and is not meant to produce a fluid scene. 3DMark06 is still a valid benchmark but does not predict the performance of modern games is all. It is better for predicting games that are 3-4 years old which were all much more CPU dependent - thus the heavy effect of CPU speed on the score. -

I am back @ stock clocks for the moment. Im gonna wait and install windows 7 then see the difference. In the mean time im letting my cpu perform @ different settings so i doesnt get used to working @ thatt speed, not sure if that matters but hey.
I have the same problem youre having, i am still new here but you already seen alot of me since im here i think. Im trying to build up some rep and status to be more part of the senior community since i feel i belong here but my status doesnt confirm it. hate that rrrrrr -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
the CPU has no memory of how it performed in the past so you do not have to do that

Guys need some help, please. First: I intalled NST and ntune and both make my M17x hang (BSD) maybe a driver issue? But should'nt NST work with default drivers ? (stable or not).
Second: I started giving Bios overclocking a try (complete noob on this topic), I read people here advicing to keep FSB and memory frequency equal. But my memory is 1333 and my FSB is 1066 so I started raising the FSB speed and leaving the memory at default 1333. Right now I'm on: memory: 1333 and FSB:1106. The system is stable so far and since I'm a 3d animator I ran a single frame render test I always use In all
my systems as reference. With default values the scene is rendered in 26 seconds I can do the same render a thousand times and it finishes at exactly the sane 26 seconds so it is a good cpu speed reference. With this new settings (FSB: 1106) the same frame renders in 24 seconds, for me that alone could be a great difference since my average Job needs 2000 frames to be rendered. But something weird I can't figure out is happening. While my 3D Renders are starting to go faster when I use furmark to check things out my average fps go from around 40 to 3 ( @1440 res) so don't have an idea why my scores in furmark drop so dramatically while my 3D app Renders faster. My processor is a q9100 (2.26 Ghz/12mb L2 cache) and as I said my RAM frequency is 1333 so any advice on OC this setup could make my life a lot easier and would be greatly appreciated. Normaly I like to test things by myself and read/learn without bothering others, but Overclocking could sometimes be dangerous specially for a laptop without watercooling and stuff. I know you guys think it is safe but I'm still afraid lol too much money involved and don't want to fry eggs (and components) if you know what I mean. Thanks in advance for any tips guys
(sorry for any typos//I'm on an iPhone not a pc now) -
you don't have to keep the memory at 1333. you can drop it lower to achieve the 1:2 ratio.
-
Thanks a lot mandrake I'll read more about the 1:2 ratio to make sure I get it right and try that today
-
And any idea of why Nvidia system tools and ntune hang my machine "instantly" after double clicking their icons ?
How to Overclock ( noob edition )
