Actually there is an international warranty if a 3 years or more warranty is bought. So theoretically i can service it wherever i am. I still fo prefer to deal with Dell US as from my experience they are more convenient. So yes, I will need to cross ship it to US.
-
And if you do ship it over there do they send you the box with a paid return label or do you have to take care of the shipping expenses? Wouldn't you be paranoid of it getting lost or stolen in the mail? Who would cover it if something like that were to happen? Sorry for all the questions I just need to clear things up before I go ahead with my purchase (still have till June though, since that's when a relative is coming over here)
-
A question slightly off topic. Is it possible that you use international warranty in countries that aren't under Dell International Service Program ( link ).
As in where would you take your laptop to have Dell warranty accepted? Shipping back and forth to US would cost a ton. -
I hope i won't ever need to use it but in case i'll need it i will fedex it to myUS address and have them ship it back to Dell. (since dell are sending the replacement first along with return slips it'll need to be coordinated with MyUS but i am sure it can be done)
Don't worry about asking questions, that's what this thread is for.

So did anyone try forwarding a laptop from USA to Canada?
I hear that you don't have to pay customs fees over a laptop (any laptop) as there are no laptop manufacturers in Canada. Is that true?
Any reliable info regarding this issue?
I ordered a new lappie that will be received by my relatives in NY. I want to forward it to Canada.
Unfortunately, I have no one returning from USA within a month-two, neither have urgent plans on going abroad, so the only option is to forward the package.
Any info on the subject would be much appreciated. -
Bump...

wish i could help with that bro ...

Wanted to say that international warranty does work. I just serviced mine in Brazil without problems. Tech came the next day after I called, no problems whatsoever.

Hi
I just got off a chat session with a DELL usa rep, tried to explain for him my situation "I dont live in US, i have an address in US, bla bla bla"
he just kept saying no and its not possible unless you have a card registered in US.
ideas? -
Find another, more friendly rep?
Maybe ask OP for the number/email of the rep he used.
-
-
You only can pm after 10 posts.
-
You might want to try to go with team blackhawk
Dell - Meet Your Friendly Sales Agents - Team Blackhawk | Dell
If that doesn't work Ill dig up my old emails and find you the phone number of the rep. I have a feeling that it was a one time thing though.. Every other rep you'll try will probably happily take your order.
Also, you can try to configure first and only mention that you don't have a us card at the end of the conversation.. -
great thread btw, this could save me lots of money if it worked for me
EDIT: thanx! i will try with another rep tomorrow morning, cuz i feel that this rep is gonna be there all night waiting for me, Lol
cheers -
Thanks mate, I am sure it will. Did u see the info I posted for you?
-
yes i did, thanx! but am not sure i fully understand .. this team is part of Dell support team? are they different from the guys in alienware live chat?
a side question, I have read somewhere that if my company have contract with Dell than I can get around 10% off
the company i am working with has a long term contract with them (not Dell usa obviously) can I be eligible to this kind of discount or? -
Blackhawk is a us based support and sales team. I had good experience with them.
Don't think you can get a discount because your company works with Dell. -

I got my alienware, m17x
but not through US site, got it from an electronic exhibition in dubai, did not expect to find it there, but i did
"Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX)" .
it was not configurable but luckily enough it was exactly what i wanted with less price than the US site (strange a little but woot for me)
- i7 820MQ
- 17-inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 RGB LED (1200p)
- CrossfireX ATI graphics (dual 5870 each 1GB)
- 8GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 4GB DDR3)
- 1TB Raid 0 (2x 500GB 7,200RPM HDDs)
got it for around 3.2K USD, same specs (save for the i7 820MQ, i only found i7 840Q in the US site) in the US site the price is listed as 3,823.00 with everything else the same.
sadly they didnt have the carrying bag (but meh, its so heavy it can barely move alot, so why bother getting a bag)
anyone in the middle east who wanted alienware hope he/she already got it from there, if not wait for next year, IT WILL BE WORTH IT
cheers and thanx for the help guys -
this is a great thread, this solve my problem because I am planning to buy an aw. Hidevolution solved mine. I am living in the philippines. I can have cheaper laptop.
I can configure a m11x in hidevolution 969usd and have the specs I want for 1119usd plus the shipping 90usd and an orochi gaming mouse 80usd.
But I dont trust this company with ease. Can you confirm hidevo as a reliable company that can take the product that I bought with no hassles and problem free? Would they steal my money?
edit:
try this site...

Good luck with m11x. You'll going to need it. Plenty.

Hi, nice topic.
I'm from Brazil and I intend to go to USA and buy an Alienware.
As I want to configure one, I'm affraid I can't buy them at the stores like BestBuy.
I also can't buy from Dell's site because even paying with an international credit card (by telphone) I would need US address (they can't ship to an hotel address).
So I was looking in eBay and saw 2 sellers: eva.international and hidevolution (The same that you guys said). They do ship to an hotel and also have a retail store which I can personally pick up.
But I don't know what state I'm going so in case I ask them to send to my hotel address, how these shipping methods works in USA?
They will deliver it and the hotel receptionist will keep it for me then deliver it to me or I need to personally receive it (sign for it or something like that)? Is it safe to do that? Don't want to buy an expensive laptop and lose it in the middle of the process.
Does anyone know any other store that sells configured Alienware laptops? -
I just placed an order with HIDevolution.COM, I live in the UK and will post my experiences here once the process is complete, the order process itself was very good and painless with a very helpful rep in contact with me called Ted from their (I assume) sales team, my machine is a high spec AW R3 and will save me a considerable ammount of money based on US and UK price differences after talking with a Dell sales rep (R3 still not officially launched in UK yet)
Once I receive my machine I will update with the full HIDevolution.com experience, so far it's been exceptional -

I talked to some sales guy, a different one this time and questioned there base price. They kept talking about how the build was much more quality comapred to US and will last for 20 to 25 years unlike the US which was full of bad quality and would have compatibility issues if someone used a US version anywhere else.
They must think we're really dumb.
Anyway took off £250 by just talking. It's easy if someone is happy with the price and spec but still want to take a few pounds off. It's not that hard at all. Just tell them your budget and make it less than 300 the normal price and see how much they take off. Should at least take of £150 at least. -
-
Not just one time but several times he mentioned about the super build quality being the difference. -

I wish you would've recorded him
The Chinese guys pick better quality parts for the R3s that go to Europe
BTW, i just ordered the R3 following the same procedures i posted here (which aren't available here anymore) and it still works great.

Thanks

Is 20% VAT is only extra cost when u buying from US? Im in UK and considering Hidevolution -

You'll also have to consider custom fees,i don't know how they calculate it in UK,might want to check with them.

A good tool to use is Calculate your import duty in a few quick steps for free | The DutyCalculator which will give you a rough guide to a total import cost.
Mind you, saying that, you may wanna have a look here http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...-aw-system-accessories-please-contribute.html as sometimes, buying from within the UK can be advantageous.
As an example. If you buy a laptop valued at $3000usd and it costs $150 for the retailer to ship it to you in the UK, you will pay 20% on the combined amount.
$3150 is converted into UK gbp which would be appx £1950gbp
Then add 20% (appx £400gbp) so that takes it up to around £2350gbp.
Simples!
Hope that helps clarify things a bit - its a good way to get a very close figure to total import costs. Obvioulsy currency exchange rates play a part in these calculations and change on a daily basis....best to buy when the you get more dollars per pound....but thats kinda gettin into "wall street" territory lol (I always wanted to be Gordon Gecko lololol) -

I thought I would work out an example based on buyng a fully loaded non-3d M17x R3 from Dell UK and from Hidevolution. Both systems were configured exactly the same where possible, choosing the best configuration for each option. Both had the same screen, cpu, gpu, raided SSD's (samsung) win 7 ultimate, Intel 6300 lan, 16gb 1333 ram, blu ray reader, No additional software or anything apart from 3yr basic warranty (no accidental damage)
The maxed out R3 from the uk including shipping costs (oh, Dell do that for nothing lol - I should think so!) works out at £4,644.00 or $7,440usd
Obvioulsy no additional import charges for the above system as its in the UK.
The same system from Hidevolution (as an example) including basic shipping to the UK works out at $4,513.00usd or £2,820gbp
(Just out of interest, I also did the same config via the US Dell site and that workes out at $4,478.00usd so around the same kinda price as from Hidevolution but Dell US wont ship to UK)
Thats excluding the cost to import it from the US to the UK (Holw COW batman - thats a whopping £1800gbp or $3000usd MORE (almost DOUBLE the US cost) and we STILL have the fun part of adding import fees to that.......so.......lets do that.....(he says with a scared face
Ok, so....$4,513.00 is equal to around £2,820gbp so add the 20% import fees and that brings the grand total for the same system imported to the UK from the USA to £3,516.77 to be as exact as I can.
So, in theory, its safe to say that you can save over £1,000gbp by buying and importing the same system from the US to the UK.
Dont know about you guys but I would rather take that £800+ that I would have to hand over to the UK tax man, book a flight, go and see Ted at Hidevolution, take in the sights, have a few beers and then come back home with the laptop unboxed (used goods and all that means you shouldnt pay anything to bring it back with you in a used state).......
I think that Dell REALLY needs to look at its UK/European pricing for these systems....its ridiculous that there is such a disparity in charges for the same thing. I appreciate Dell is a US company and US citizens will get things cheaper...no problem with that...but it comes to something else when other countries have to pay such exhorbetent prices for the same thing.
Hope this helps someone and sorry for a double post. -
After using tools you provided now i know i'll have to pay around £400 VAT for my system, so no point for me going to see Ted
Just drop him an email, after his answers i'll decide which way to go

you will get the best dell UK deal from that representative. He offered me i7-2630QM, 4GB, 320GB, HD6970M, 3-year Basic, 1080p for £1950(after £600 discount). -
£600??
Today i was talking with them and from £2800 they went all the way down to £2600... joke...

(Ynwa knows that better is possible via a GOOD Dell rep)
What you have to realise is that speaking to any old rep on the phone will get you a standard response. Most are not able to offer ANY discount and even if you get one that will offer you some discount, most are tied at a max of 5% of the total system value. In your case, getting a "standard rep" to offer you £200 isnt bad lol...thats more than 5% hahahaha
This is my experience of dealing with "run of the mill" Dell reps - they arent bothered about giving you a good deal....its not an insult to them by any means but think of them as "tiny little Dell robots following protocol" lol.......d'ya get me? lol -

Anyone have any experience in ordering systems from the Dell Outlet (US or UK outlets) and shipping them internationally?
I'm interested in buying a system from the Outlet as long as it can be shipped to another EU country (Portugal in my case). -
