This guid should show you how to make 9.3 run on your M17 (mobile 3870).
First of all you need the new Catalyst Software Suite (64 bit) and this W7 inf. or this Vista inf.
New! With scaling!
inf.
Vista inf. with performance tweaks!
inf.
When sb tells me where I can upload files without a downloadlimit I'll upload the "new 9.3".
Start the installation of 9.3, it will make a folder, than cancle the installation. Now you will find in "X:"\ATI\SUPPORT\9_3_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF" the old inf, replace it with the new on
Deinstall your old driver by going to hardware-manager and deinstall the drivers of the two 3870 inclusive deleting the driver, than deinstall the left ATI software.
Reboot and go back to hardware-manager and rightclick the 3870 and than click "update driver".
Now you will have no Catalyst Control Center. To solve this "problem" just install the old W7 driver, or an other driver with CCC, and select "customer" and than unselect the "driver" so only the CCC will be installed.
Now just restart and enjoy the 9.3 on your M17!
I hope this helped you enjoy your desktopreplacement
Thank goes to www.sevenforums.com and specialy to darkassain how made the inf and explained me (you) how to make it work! And thanks goes to E-wrecked how made the Vista inf.
I tested 9.3 on Vista and Windows 7 and I got these 3DMark06 scores (I just booted and ran, I didn't shut something down like Command Center and Steam):
3DMark06 on Vista 64bit:
9.3 12102 (1280x1024)
And now on Windows 7:
9.3 12037 (1280x1024)

im stuck in a never ending cycle of install and then go back and try to install agin .....loaded fine and now it just keeps trying to install...werid
in the end it
FAILED -
Where does it reinstall without ending?
picture number? The last? Or when you tryed to install CCC?
Greetings
Julian -
Am I right?
Greetings
Julian -
yea it gave me the option to install every thing but during the part where the loading bar starts moving it just kept cycing though for 8 mins and then just said it failed to install
-
have you clean deinstalled especialy CCC (ATI Software)?
I am just trying to NOT clean deinstall and I am getting this problem now, too -
no i didnt do a clean install i was hopeing it would work. i will do a clean install when i get home i have to work tonight sigh
-
Now I have a problem
I don't get it to install CCC without the "never ending" problem^^
Never touch a running systemAnd never try to make it get bad^^
Greetings
Julian -
do any bench marking with the new driver?
-
technically speakin.. these drivers should NOT install properly. the card ID string is off - not the name - but the ID string. The name doesn't really matter.. Anyhow, why not just force install a desktop 3870?
-
And now everything runs smooth!
Even L4D, ok the "multicore CPU problem" isn't solved but we even don't know if it is related to the driver! But I do get better FPS in L4D! I'll test öhm I only have BF2 and my steam games ... ah ok CSS test^^
CSS everything maxed out on 1440x900 avarage 291,38 FPS
May be somebody with T9400 and CrossFireX (and W7) can tell me what he gets
Greetings
Julian -
Found it! I am sure you will understand the bars

this definately won't work on Vista.. not sure ifit works on Win7.
Here's the modded .inf to install the 3870s on both Vista and Win7.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PD93336I
Just replace the .inf located in the same directory julian mentioned. -
Can I test the new inf by just "Update Dirver" or do I have to make it "clean"?
Greetings
Julian -
9.3 is working on Vista!
*hura* *bow* E-wrecked *bow* *party*
Now I'll run some Vista Benchmarks and than W7 Benchmarks ...
starting with 3DMark06
than Crysis ...
Greetings
Julian -
I just booted and ran, I didn't shut something down (like Command Center, Steam ...)
9.3 12102 (1280x1024)
And now on Windows 7:
9.3 12037 (1280x1024)
Is not bad I think?
Greetings
Julian -
With 9.3, I have tested GTA4 and it's crashing just after the game load...:/
-
After loading a save game or loading the "game" (double click the exe)?
Greetings
Julian
Edit:
And now on Windows 7:
9.3 12037 (1280x1024) -
Anyone else give the drivers I modded a try and confirm they work properly? Thanks Julian
-
I think we have to wait for MR.Moo

Hello
I just gave it a go with E's modded inf and the installer installs everything except the display driver. Have no idea why. Completely stuck for ideas. -
Umm.. You sure you did it right? With mine you gotta install seperately using have disk method - I think. Install display driver then CCC. Don't install ccc if device manager doesn't report the driver being installed correctly. Try again? Or try Have Disk method?
-
where is everyone today? I wanna see how these drivers work out
-
They work but atm I am not that happy with the Crysis score ... (but we know that the tool is may be buggy^^)
Greetings
Julian -
9.3 and Crysis scores (maxed out @ 1280x720 und 1280x1024):
Vista 64bit:
1280x720 ==> 19,48
1280x1024 => 18.31
Windows 7 64bit:
1280x720 ==> 17,12
1280x1024 => 16,13

-
as you see
I have dualboot you know
Greetings
Julian -
-
*whistles as hes waiting for the 32bit version
-
But 9.3 gives you a good boost at L4D
Greetings
Julian -
Might be faster for E if i test them first since most people with 64bit vista seems to be slacking
-
I just installed the Vista 64 bit 9.3 driver and will report back if there are any issues.

CooL, give it a shot -
Great
Checking again your installation steps and on my way
-
mm, just to make sure, modify the CCC files with mobility modder or not ?
-
nope nope..
just replace the .infs. I think you may have to do have disk method.. then install CCC after.
only one way to find out though, you can try the setup.exe method for full install. -
nah gonna try the 2 separate installations and the have disk method first since we didnt have that much luck with the full package installation so i dont trust it anymore
Btw, use the have disk method on both cards or just one of them ? (in case that updating the drivers for one automatically changes the drivers for the other one). -
if ya install one it should handle the other on its own..
-
Great, on my way to test them then
-
-
No luck. Display driver installs properly with the have disk method but.
1. No custom resolutions like the rest of the modded drivers.
2. Scaling issue still there.
3. Cant get CCC installed. -
hmm.. strange. what does CCC say?
I haven't edited resolutions, don't worry bout that yet. Wanna make sure they install before I tweak em down. -
I was able to install CCC by using E-Wrecked 9.1 driver and going into custom install, and unchecking all options expect for CCC.
-
Basically I always install the drivers using custom installation and when i try to install CCC there isnt an option for it.
I guess me12345's idea could work. Install an older CCC version. But the scaling issue is still there. Except if its non existent CCC part. -
-
Bah, no luck, even with an older CCC version the scaling issue is still there when using 1600X1200
lower resolutions work of course but those also work with mobility modder
-
Ok..new download here: http://ewrecked.darksmileysystems.com/32bittweaks.zip
