Wanted to put this out there. I ordered my M17x the 29th of last month and hope to receive it tomorrow or Friday. Getting to the point of my post; when I saw the price difference when I clicked on the link that sleeyO posted I decided to contact my Sales Associate. Sent him an email with a comparison of my order and a saved cart with the same config via the link. The difference was just over $400.
An hour later I received a call from the associate explaining what we could do. It came down to speaking with the SRS department or returning the unit and making an entirely new order. Spoke with the SRS department and was able to obtain a $300 price difference refund. I know it's not $400, but it sure beats waiting another month for my unit.
If anyone wants it, the SRS department # is 800-247-2076 or 1-800-624-9897 ext. 508-7319. Gotta add, my sales associate was the best I have dealt with in some time. Guys like him could bring more people back to the dell name.

I got a 10% discount and a backpack to come with it, by just calling to Dell. It was very easy actualy. Saved me up around €300 (incl. backpack). This is round about $425, and that for just a phone call!
But then again I am in Europe, where the prices are almost exact the same in Euro's as it is in Dollars, so what's gain here... -
So what are you saying here, i just need to phone them and say that i want 10% discount and they give it to me
? Regardless where you live in US or EU?
-
Then I started about specs and that in Europe everything is overpriced so i made comparisans to the US. After some time on the phone with him, I started about the price and such. He just simply told me he could give me a 10% discount... After that I started about the backpack and he e-mailed me (after he spoke to his manager) that it was okay and I could pick a backpack. It is after all a lot of money your spending here. So a little gift was - so to speak, in my case the decision to actually buy it.
And voila an order is born.
I don't know if it works this way in the US, but it did work here. -
How long where you on phone with im
I don't know if i am that good of a salesman to buy a laptop like that
.
-
Here in the US there is no wiggle room for discounts. It makes sense because EU customers are getting a$$ raped, so I'd hope you guys are getting some discounts when calling in....
-
Normaly I am not such a sales person aswell (and I am Dutch?!). But before you call them write down what points you want to talk about and what your budget is, I called with a small paper list which I worked my way down with the Rep. Like you can see, I managed to fix the discount...
And if it isn't to your likings, just do not order! Call back another day or let them get back to you.
After all you are the customer and they want to sell you something. -
Thanks for the good tips! Altough, i have a friend in US. Maybe i can order from US and let her ship it to Estonia. I REALLY like this new m17x. Sweet from inside out
-
-
i may not know much about technicality or benchmarks or how to's etc... on this machine, but when you guys help put money in my pocket..... man, i got your back on anything else...!
and to raven, its people like you, where there will always be people lookin out for you dawg... as you do for them.
THANKS AGAIN! -
^ Where did you order it from? Dell USA?
-
the dude on the phone said, ok $300 back to my visa.
-
-

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
dam you all!
How am I supposed to be happy with my whitebook when you come up with deals like this!?! -
Well if this SLI cable does not fix my issue im going to be returning my system then reordering i think . Seems now there is only about a 2 week turn around on a new system and if i ask for a replacement thats going to take about the same amount of time and i wont save any $$ that way either.

-
I sure cant my friend
. As the saying go's "Its always something"

Quad
I guess I have been out of the loop... What's wrong with your M17x? And the QAVS Q9200 was no good? -
I wish you better luck in the future quad. My bad luck in the past was with cars.
-
Then yesterday i started to get Blue flickering when SLI was enabled in games and found the thread(using search) and saw that Neoclasscl had the same issue as i had so i phone up dell spent 2 hours diagnosing the problem as best possible and in the end there going to ship me the SLI cable. We shall see if that fixes the issue or not and if not ill probably do a return .

Dam, that is rough. Best of luck man

Well seeing as this is the best notebook i have ever owned it would be hard not to want to re order but waiting 2-3 weeks again might very well kill me in the process . Ill have to make that decision when and if the time comes.
I am hoping the cable fixes it and i am on my merry way to happiness but i know if it doesnt i dont think im going to start adding new GPUs etc to a 2 day old machine either .
There pumping these things out so fast now that it has me abit concerned about the amount of time being spent on testing.
Only upside to having them issue a replacement is if i have 2 machines infront of me then i can take the good and bad from both like one might have a better screen etc and i wouldnt be without a machine in the meantime .
Downside to not returning and reordering would be the $$ i could save and apply towards a Qx9300.
Lots of decisions that quite frankly i dont even want to think about cause i just got the darn thing less then 72 hours ago.
-
Sorry, bro.
I feel for ya. I hope you get everything worked out.... -

Sorry to hear about the bad news, first no dice on the quad and now blue flickering issues, yikes, I hope you get it all sorted out in a timely fashion.

Got some automated call this morning saying it was coming tomorrow and a tech would be contacting me , i made it very clear i didnt want a tech to touch my machine and i was going to handle it myself . not sure if thats just an automatic thing that happens when they ship you a part regardless of whether anyone is actually coming or not .
-
Sorry to hear that Quadzilla, good luck with everything.
-
Thanks for all the kind words everyone
. Having no luck with then Q9200 then the Blue flickering sure has zapped my desire to even want to use the machine till i get it straightened out .
-
-
Lol i was itchin when i tossed in that quad then the itch went away almost immediately .Ill run a few in abit here just for giggles .
-
I know I have a Vantage with a single gpu. I'll have to find it.
-
i can run dual ill just see the blue flicker . its pretty faint but totally noticeable basically like a blue pulsating light going thru the screen ontop of what ever your looking at .
-
The P8600 is in right now? My stock score with the x9100 was either 10.3K or 10.6K, I don't remember.
I've been testing the 190.38 drivers today and they seem rock solid for gaming. Just not benching but I didn't push them too hard. -

I should be getting my M17x with dual 260M's next week, spoke to a rep about my order status, and they said it should be ready to ship in one to two days.
Hopefully I will get it next week, and I can run some benchmarks, can anyone help me out with Vantage if you know what I mean? -
@ Quad
have your machine apart when he gets there and ask him to give you your cable and then you put t back together
Mine was pretty cool about it since he didn''t have to do anything -
You sound like me quad. lol
Over all these years I have yet to let any tech touch my Dell laptops.
I even used to skimp on the warranty. Dell used to have a mail-in only (return to depot) and it was dirt cheap. I got that to save money because Dell would still send me the parts! To bad they don't have that warranty option anymore.
Anyway, good luck quad -
-
so maybe the quad was not the issue after all??
-
no the SLI cable was bad
-
Nah my SLI cable is fubar . Nothing to do with the CPU .
I can run this crappy P8600 at 1333FSB and 1333 RAM so it was the CPU and not the ram like i had maybe thought it was . -
Quad have so much anger with this poor P8600
-
-
pounding out 50 FPS in RE 5 with my single 260 so im happy
and easily maxes all my other games -
. Is a pretty good process after all
-
I shutter at the thought of even running a dual core in my machine to be honest . I have had quadcores in my computers since the day they were available so just the idea of any dual core and then the lowest of the low end ones just makes me uneasy .
This is just my personal opinion though and many people have good reasons why they do or dont need a quad but since were all entitled to have an opinion (you know free will and all that stuff) then mine stands as i dont like dual cores . -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I think Quadcores are worth their weight in gold... but I will admit there are many people who do not need a Quad right now... and when they do they can pick one up for cheaper.. the way I see it is we are ahead of the game!

So, sorry if this has been addressed already... I used a link provided earlier to get the 7% epp discount and the e-value code. I have saved that to my cart. My questions is about the epp. I haven't ever used that. Aren't I supposed to supply some epp sales person code? I don't have one.
I'm BACK! Comments on new config welcome:)
