Called 800alienwa over lunch, still says is in the build phase, estimated ship date 2/15. EDD online also hasn't changed, still says 2/18. Haven't gotten a phonecall/email/refund/anything from Dell, probably because I ordered through aafes.

I've briefly considered cancelling just to have my 1500 funbux back in my hands, except I might not get as good a deal when I finally can reorder, and I'd rather not go through the trouble of trying to get it back.

Gryphyn: I also ordered through Dell and am choosing not to cancel my order as I won't the 30% off that I got originally. I did talk to an AAFES rep and he told me if I did cancel my order it would take 10-14 days to recieve my refund, and that pretty much made up my decision not to cancel. I even asked about getting the same deal that I recieved when I ordered if I did cancel and that was a no-go. So yeah good luck to you and if I was you I would contact someone from Dell to ensure they don't cancel if for you

I figure if it had been cancelled, I would hear it or see it when I checked my status, so I'm hoping I'm good to go. Like I've said previously, given all the crazy phonecalls people are getting, I've just been keeping my head down.

Got anymore Dell rep stories to share with us today? :D

Anyway. it's a shame Dell doesn't take pre-orders for the R3, I hate checking the site every hour to see if it is available. It shouldn't be too long from now.

Just had a thought...does anyone know how many m17x R3s have been sold already? I mean I would take a gander at a few thousand. If thats the case and intel has started shipping the new mobos than we should be seeing our rigs pretty soon :)

Lmao! Oh no!!! Not forever! And yeah... The CSR that called and told me that it was crucial that I cancel now and order and R2 told me that he was gonna call tomorrow to get it cancelled. I'm not gonna be hassled by someone who just wants a sale. If they keep bothering me I'll tell them where they can put that cancellation. lol jk

    @Mercurius and Torai:

SHADY, like a tree. (referring to your cancellation phone calls).

I get the same kinda response when I'm the one calling IN. Yet to receive a call from anyone from Dell though, except that 1 time when the lady called to confirm cancellation of my order (which happened to be that one duplicate order that was cancelled by the aafes rep, who prolly made a typo or something).

This is funny, cuz I've only received 2 phone calls total from Dell. 1 was the call from that lady I mentioned, and 2nd was the call from her which was a call-back to confirm that it was a "my-bad moment". lol.

Ditto. Still says will ship out 2/15 on phone, and 2/16 EDD online.

Well, I called Dell today, and spoke to a dude in their Nashville office. He said that he sees what I see (In production - build stage), and doesn't really know what phase it's in. I asked him if he knew about what they're doing about the Intel issue since hardware would be shipped to them on 2/14, and then he asked me to hold a bit . When he came back, he said that most likely mine will not ship tomorrow (which was pretty obvious), and then he proceeded to tell me about the "cancellation" option, of which I cut him off after his 3rd word or so lolz. Reiterated that he needs to review the various memos/notes on my order to see that I've told everyone NOT TO CANCEL and that I was WILLING TO WAIT. He confirmed, and then deferred to the csr who is supposed to follow up with me on the "expedite-my-order" request. I checked my email when I got home about half an hour ago, and no real update yet. He just says he'll keep me updated as he gets news. Pretty generic message I've been getting from him lately though.

Maybe half of the total shipped are prolly units to the various websites that do reviews and stuff, so I don't think those count :p

    -------

Anyhoo, I'm hoping my unit comes this week. NBD should assist with that wait period, right?

Psyloid said his order already changed to "order sent". If this is true, I will call Dell right away for cancelling my R3 order and have me ordered a R2 with EDD of 3/4 :(

So I recieved my 3rd call yesterday from Dell asking me if I wanted to cancel my order. After politely telling the CSR politely to kiss it I told him that I was cancelling my order forever. This whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth. I understand these problems were out of Dell's control but come on. Not only can they not tell me anything but that they're waiting on an official statement from Dell 2 weeks after the fact but I have been constantly harassed to cancel my order and reorder later so the rep can get the credit for the sale. (my m17x r3 has already been paid for)

After cancelling my order I called around to other sales department for other manufacturers and not only did the Toshiba rep speak English they were able to give me a lot more information regarding this setback and were even able to give me an estimated time the new Qosmio's would be in production and shipping again.

So I have to say good bye to my pimped out R3 and bye to dell / alienware forever. If only their customer service was as good as their product...

Hope everyone else has better luck than I did

I just got my EDD updated online and its now at 2/25. The only thing that sucks is that its still 7 day shipping >.>. I wonder where should I call and what can I complain to make it Next business day shipping.

Over the phone mine has changed from an est. ship date of 15th to silence. I'm expecting the online status to update soon to a later date.

I did decide to speak to a service rep last night just for kicks, and played dumb to see what the aproach would be. The gentleman was very courteous and explained the sandy bridge situation to me, said they were waiting on replacement parts from Intel, but did not have any information on when those parts would be available. He apologized that there wasn't more he could do since the matter was really out of Dell's hands until they get parts.

At no time did he mention cancellation of the order, or press me to do so. In fact, he said that all orders that were in production had automatically been placed on hold status, awaiting parts.

I mentioned that the biggest frustration to me was I was trying to get this new laptop before my other laptop needed to be sent in for repairs and asked if there was a way it could be set to ship as quickly as possible instead of the standard shipping it currently was set for. At this point he implied that since this laptop will be past its intended delivery date when it is finally constructed that Dell would be doing everything they could to get it to me as soon as possible. At no point did he actually say it would be changed to faster shipping, nor did I feel like pressing the issue.

So, no new news there, but thought y'all might be interested.

I agree that a big company such as Dell should update more often, but giving an estimated time frame doesn't mean anything. Intel and Dell as well as many other companies have said by April everything will be alright. whether or not Dell will take orders before, who knows. Also, you may have just been lucky getting an "English speaking rep", and Toshiba could have just said an earlier date to you to get a sale, any rep would do the same thing.

But either way, sorry to hear that you had a bad experience and I hope that you enjoy your new Toshiba, they definitely have some nice computers.

ATTN everyone who ordered through AAFES and took advantage of the 30% off. If you had to cancel you can still get your 30% on a new order. After talking to AAFES they explained to me how it works. They said all you have to do is place your new order and then call them with your old order number then they will apply the 30% off from your failed order to your new order. The direct number to the AAFES people to make this happen is as follows: 1-800-527-2345... Good luck to you... I personally have had enough with the dell reps but just wanted to pass this along to other so they can still get their 30% off. :)

my EDD was update to 2/22. Although I haven't heard anything from my rep this time, I think it is pretty safe to assume that dell will ship the new R3 around next week.

That was the old news, before Intel announced that they will be shipping the motherboards earlier - which was Feb.14. Dell reps for some reason have a hard time keeping up with tech related news.

Actually, just because Intel will START shipping new mobos on the 14th, doesnt mean that full prod will have been reached by then. It means START, I still expect a mid March early April for full replacements to happen.

True, I was implying towards people who don't own an R3, Dell may take R3 orders well before mid-March early April. Intel/Dell could be talking about a full recover by April for people who already own the faulty motherboards.

But again, you never know, anything could happen. The estimated time could be way off. All we can do now is make rational decisions and hope to hear from Dell sometime in the near future.

I wouldent think they would start takeing orders untill they have replaced all the MB's that were faulty first.....

Consider they will initially have only a limited supply of boards, it would make sence they go to fixing the existing customers first, THEN start takeing orders for new units.

I know if I already owned a faulty one and they were selling new ones before fixing mine I would be royally pissed, I imagine others would feel the same.

No, actually if they want to discuss order status posts related to this, i'm ok with it. Currently this is large enough that I do not want all of these R3 order status posts clogging up the 17x order status thread. Folks who are ordering the R2 do not need to have their posts drowned out by this R3 situation. ;)

The ? marks surrounding orders which were placed before the R3 was pulled are more than welcome here since its a direct result of the Intel screw up.

    Thanks for the concern.

For those that are still trying to figure out where your order is, I strongly suggest you stop calling the automated system and start calling and talking to a rep. Get a supervisor on the line if you have to. That order status# is not going to give you any new info and quite often enough the data is not always 100% accurate.

Sorry Night, no tangible update to be had. All the pertinent information that anyone knows can be found in post numeral uno, courtesy of BatBoy.

BatBoy: Thanks for the info. I think by now we're all pretty sure where are order is though...nowhere! :) For me, it is just humorous to note that the automated systems are not connected to reality in a situation like this. It is also quite apparent, given the numerous posts with conflicting information from Dell reps that they aren't connected to reality either.

I'm just posting to pass the time until something happens.

My edd is updated to 4/12.. I had called earlier to complain and the cr gave me next day shipping ( which is shot to hell now) when i told him it was not yet shipped. So I emailed him when I saw how far the edd was and he said he sent an email to the manufacturing team, I should get a call back in about 2 days or so.. Anyone else have a EDD that far off? I don't wanna cancel cause I got it off of aafes and the discount was too sweet to pass off.

I'm a lurker and I've followed this discussion since the beginning and I also ordered from AAFES. I went ahead and called AAFES today and specifically asked to talk to an AAFES dell rep. I voiced my concern about the matter and he understood my problem. I needed this laptop for school and my original EDD was 2/17, I checked yesterday and mine updated to 4/14. Knowing there is no chance of me receiving this in time for class, I asked nicely what was my options to try and save the price that I had for my configuration and the dell rep from AAFES mentioned about canceling or waiting (Pretty much the same thing dell reps have been mentioning to everyone). I then suggested that my only real option is to cancel my order and purchase a temporary laptop from CostCo and e-mail me a quote of my configuration so that when april comes around, I can use that quote price to order the r3 again. I advise that if you dont mind waiting, you do the same cause I think the price was such a steal.

As of today, I also received an updated shipping date for 4/18. I am curious about canceling an order and using a quoted price to reorder at a later date. Has any else done this or can they confirm that Dell will actually honor this?
I also ordered my R3 through AAFES at the end of JAN. I was going to wait to see if the 485m was going to be an option for the R3 or order a Satori P170 from Malibal, but AW AAFES meesed up the upgrade cost for the 2820QM (it was $7 less than the price for the stock 2620) so I went ahead and ordered the R3 with the intent to upgrade to a 485m later on. Based on the order date, I assume royalilocano took advantage of the same pricing error. I would love to reorder the same laptop configuration at the same price with the only exception of paying for a 485m upgrade.

For those with AAFES orders, my EDD was changed overnight from 2/18 to 4/15. Guess they think I won't wait them out and will go for one of the older models. Just glad I didn't move my M15x on based on the 2/18 date.

BTW, that EDD was changed on the Dell site, linked from the AAFES "my account" link.

Also, for those that don't have an immediate need for your laptop, it doesn't hurt to wait. I custom ordered a bass guitar from Carvin that took over 4 months to arrive (after I paid). While the wait was agonizing for sure, when I unboxed it, that wait time stress immediately vanished into nothingness...since we are dealing with Dell and not some fly by night reseller, I am confident my product will arrive at my house one day.

Disclaimer - not ALL resellers are fly by night, and some are great! But there are those others...

Mine is still showing an updated EDD of 2/24 (though now I'm getting nervous about checking it incase it starts showing April) and I ordered through Dell-EPP. I can't imagine that how we ordered would make a difference it just seems like everytime I read an updated date of April it's someone who goes through AAFES (which I believe is military? If so, thanks all of you for your service!).

April is most likely the latest estimate. I have a feeling it could ship out in March.
