Dookie, mine hasn't changed.
-
Yes, mine changed from 2/24 to 3/3 last week (Thursday I think).
-
found some more good news
its not just apple but toshiba acer and asus as well
Intel begins shipping fixed B3 stepping 6-series chipsets to first-tier makers
things are looking up.... -
first time poster just wanna say thanks for all the info
+rep -
Just a question and im not sure it belongs on this thread but do ALL the m17x R3s come with the WiHD capability?
-
@Everybody: When was your order date? Mine was 1/28 and it's still showing "4/13/11 (Updated)".
It's going to via an upgrade card or something. As of now, that video with that dude is a lie, he's just pretending to show wireless HD
, or he's using unreleased tech
-
Its laptopmag dude. I don't think their lying.
-
@Dookie My order was placed on 1/27 and my EDD was changed to 3/3 last week.
On another note I just called to modify my order as i decided to get the i7 2720 processor and I am SHOCKED that 3 of the 4 reps i just spoke to did not know about the intel chipset problem. By now thats horrible that all CSR are not informed. Anyways they said in order to modify my existing order they have to cancel it and then re-enter it. I am skeptical about this since the system is not available to order right now. Any advice would be good as they are calling me back in an hour or two because "their computers are running slow right now." -
Kk
Cuz I'll be honest with you, the first time I watched that video, I was desperately looking for the HDMI cable on the R3
EDIT: Also, I didn't know you were referring to this new link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfwNa96yo4U&feature=feedu.
I thought you were talking abou the first video, which has the guy playing Final Fantasy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRM4P7SvLtM. Can't really tell if there's an HDMI cable or not though, since it's blurry
YOu're lucky. On the other hand, every csr I've spoken to said that the Intel news was sent via an office-wide memo/email to all csr staff, so iono what's going on over there. Then again, the csr team does span 4 countries: America, Costa Rica, Flip, and India.
Dang, I'm wondering why mine hasnt changed yet... -
I ordered mine 1/27, first EDD was 2/16, then changed to 2/24 and now shows as 3/3 HOWEVER when a Dell CSR finally called me on Friday (after my EDD was changed to 3/3) she said that if I opted to put my computer on hold instead of cancelling I wouldn't get it until April, so I think maybe the system just automatically changes the EDD once the shipping time has passed, I keep logging in and expecting to see an April EDD.
-
Uhm, no, it comes with the SiBeam Wireless HD card.
you need to purchase a box that connects to the TV you want to steam to but that card comes with the R3. -
thanks dude. +1 rep
-
ordered on 1/27 about 3pm original edd was 2/18 which was changed to 2/16when they bumped up my shipping to nbd. on 2/17 this was changed to 4/13 (Updated). no change since
-
ok so just spoke to ANOTHER csr about buying placing an order for a m17x r3. i was playing dumb and asking when i could order one and made him aware that i knew that other manufacturers were releasing their sandy bridge systems beginning of march and he stated: 02/21/2011 12:56:49PM Agent (Darwin D): "We will have more information next week on when these products will become available again."
He's sending me an email next week so im crossing my fingers and hoping its good news
-
carefull no personal info you might want to edit that
-
Thats ok. No full names, email addresses or phone#'s.
-
Same here. Except mine was 1/27 11pm PST = 1/28 CST, orig EDD 2/17, changed to 2/16 when they bumped me to NBD also, and now it's that "4/13 Updated" stuff since last week too.
So sad so sad.
Do you think the reason is cuz Apple gets dibs on Intel stuff first? -
i thougt so at first but then i found this
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20110217PD222.html
and i dont think asus or acer get dibs before dell. at this point im hoping 4/13 is a gross exaggeration and that we might see something 1st-2nd week of march but this might just be wishfull thinking -
If Dell is unable to ship theirs by mid march but all these other companies are they better have a good explanation other than this chaotic mess full of unanswered questions

Under promise and over deliver.
It should be pretty obvious to you all. -
The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
Hopefully this means Dell will be taking orders for the R3 soon.
EDIT: Credit to kunekaden for finding this. -
You might be right. The last csr I spoke to, she said that your(my) 4/13 EDD is "most likely a worst-case-scenario estimate."
First week of March would be nice. Definitely nice! -
I tried building one to see the EDD. I cant find it anywhere. Either im blind or theres no EDD yet lol

That's not a terrible video card. Crazy amount of VRAM that won't get used though.
Between this and the 'relaunch' review, buying finger is getting itchy. -
WOW! 3gb ram gpu? That's crazy stuff
Or is it a typo?
Also, is this computer already available w/ the SB cpu? Does that mean they're close to being ready to ship for us? -
wheres the relaunch video?
*edit* serves me right for not reading. i meant review. -
On the US site it is showing an estimated ship date of 3/15/2011, with the SB processors. That should be a good sign that the R3 will be back soon.
-
Man, totally looking forward to it.
-
Where's does it say that? Link?
-
Bleh why would they release the XPS first? -_-' im hoping alienware will follow suit
-
For some reason AW is the last to be updated in the Dell stable.
-
XPS 17 Laptop Details | Dell
All the XPS 17 listed on this page have SB processors and all have a ship date of 3/15. -
Ive been trying to get a release date for the m17xR3 out of the CSRs lol. No luck yet
you guys should try too
-
Lol sadly I think were the ones giving them information lol
-
I really agree with you there and its sad. Every time i've spoken to a CSR or anyone at Dell ive known more than them about this issue..... -_-'
-
XPS is a much more mainstream system than alienware is, thats why.
-
I don't get it why dell would release a 3gb of gt555m. I mean, WTH.
-
I agree, but hopefuly they will use the initial shipments of MBs to replace shipped R3s and to fill backordered R3s.
-
Lol so funny story: the csr calls asking me if I wanted to cancel my order but I told him I'd wait.. And he said it might be cancelled automatically and that I'd have to place a new order for a different system. And I said if it got cancelled couldn't I just reactivate it again? He replies uh u could do that too, ok well thank you for your time... How does he not think of that option? Lol
-
BlackestNight21 Notebook Consultant
If only they put a 6970 in that, I would have bought it already. -
You mean you wont settle for a GT555? lol I'm shocked a rep hasnt said thats faster than xfire 5870's.
-
Ditto on that, brother.
During lunch, I called today, and the lady promised me that she would add my order to the "expedite" list, which means that "depending on supplies availability, we can request that the manufacturing team expedite your order." This is no guarantee however, is what she kept reiterating to me. I told her I fully understood, but to please do whatever she could to help me, since I've already been charged.
Later in the day: About 2 hours after my lunchbreak of calling and calling, I got a phone call from so-n-so's (the csr I've been contacting at dell) supervisor. He informed me of the usual options (cancel, wait, etc), and I told him that I did not want to cancel, and made him read all the notes/memos on all of my calls. I told him that this was beginning to get annoying, how everyone I talk to asks me that question, and everyone I talk to I tell them to add to the notes to never ask me again. I asked him, "Did you not look at your notes before calling me?" He paused a few secs (to look at his notes), and then apologized promptly. I then asked him about my previous requests to "expedite" the order. He said that he saw them, and then I told him that I understood that they're in no way a promise/guarantee that my order will be expedited and part of the March shipment (I informed him of "friends" whose EDD's had been changed from 4/13 like mine, to dates in March). He then offered aka "promised" to put bump me to the top of the list on their "expedite list." Not sure of the truthfulness of this, so I asked him to add it to the memo, and send me a confirmation email. He said that he could not send emails out, but could just add it to the memos, and if I had questions about it later, I could use the previous reference number. And then I told him that I was not home, and if he could email me the reference number. He gladly obliged to this. Fishy, right? "Can't send out emails." Shenaniganz!
Anywhoo, that's my update for the day. So, so far I have 3 (aka 4) "expedite-my-order" requests. Also, failed attempt to get an extended warranty. And also, no definite answer as to when the units will ship, let alone when mine will ship, or if I'll be part of that batch with changed EDDs.
I checked online today, and my EDD is still "4/13(updated)", and over the phone it's still "In production in the build stage---that's all information I have for you right now," says the Dell recorded lady.
booooo -
"booooo!" That made me laugh.
I've been in contact with a couple of reps who have been trying to get me to purchase an R2 configuration. I was willing to at least entertain the idea, but as I have a very tight budget was not willing to pay any more money. The processors are not as fast as the SB processors, but dual 5870s are faster than the 460M, so I felt there was some room for negotiation. Bottom line though, they were not willing to negotiate at all, would only read off differences in cost to me. So, as far as I'm concerned, they can keep their old inventory.
I also tried asking about the availability of the 6970M in the R3, and while I was not given a direct answer, their answers seemed to indicate more information would be available in a week or so.
Since I've waited this long, I find I am not horrified by the thought of waiting a little bit longer. I plan to do whatever I need to in order to get an R3 with the 6970M video card in it, which should be just about the perfect laptop. Maybe I'll end up waiting until July, maybe I won't. If I have to send in my M1530 before the new laptop gets here, I've got enough old parts to reconstruct an Inspiron 9300 I can get by on...though it pains me to think about it coming to that. -
Could you answer a couple of my questions about getting a 6970 into mine? As you may be aware, I ordered through aafes, and have already been charged. Would I be able to get it now (pre-shipment), or do I have to wait till after I receive it, and send it back for refund/have a dude come to my house to do it? Also, would I have to go through aafes or dell for this upgrade/refund? Hopefully Dell would be able to cut me something, since they've been giving me hell and unsatisfactory customer service/guidance.
Today I was so fed up that I told the supervisor guy that I was really getting annoyed with every single csr repeatedly asking me to cancel, or offer me options to cancel/refund without referencing the notes/memos which supposedly state that I DO NOT WANT TO CANCEL. -
I would love to be able to answer your questions, because that would mean I've gotten the answers we both seek! After many wasted minutes talking with reps, and many many hours pouring through these forums over the last few days (stuck in the hospital with family, so got looooooots of time on my hands), I can at best give you my impression of the situation, and what my plan of action is.
1) I'm fully convinced that I will be unable to modify my order from the 460M to the 6970M. I've had several reps tell me that once it is in production, it is too late (which brings up the question, why is there a "modify a current order" prompt on the automated phone system? Crazy), and I believe them. This leaves me with two choices: 1) Just leave it alone, and upgrade later. Though this would most likely get me my laptop sooner, I'm pretty darn sure it would cost me more money in the end. I'd probably end up having to purchase a 6970M outright. So, option 2) is cancelling my order and waiting until the 6970M is available and then re-ordering.
This is where ordering through AAFES is double the fun for you and I, because they've already got our money! Somehow I would like to have them put my order on the books for the day when the 6970M is available. I don't care about a refund, they can keep the money until the time comes, I don't care. If the 6970 upgrade is about $150, I can drop off blu-ray and hardly change my cost.
Almost forgot to address another thing you said: Half the run around I got from Dell was because I ordered through AAFES. Several times I was told they did not have access to information on my order because AAFES is essentially a third-party reseller, and I would have to go through them. So, yes, I think you'd need to go through AAFES for your upgrade, but there you may run into the "you need to go through Dell for upgrades, we're just a reseller==>you need to go through AAFES because you bought it from them" loop.
I'm pretty darn sure once it gets shipped, you're done for unless you 1) return it and order again (risking not getting your discount) or 2) just outright order the video card.
I'm hoping working through AAFES will yield a bit more success than anything I've achieved so far through the Dell reps. They just don't seem to have the ability to maneuver outside of the "I'm very interested in helping you with your issue today/I have no information on anything whatsoever" script.
So. There is my longwinded, completely unconfirmed analysis of the situation. Believe me, as soon as I have any kind of real answer, I'll post and PM. -
Thanks. Dane advised me to threaten to return once I receive it. I'm gonna call aafes tomorrow though. Same as you, mine's already paid for, and tomorrow's my due date for my cc, so no matters to me at this point on where my money is lolz/no lolz.
-
If there's no email their pretty much just trying to get us to shut up and be pleased that something is happening when we know that their just being manipulative and nothing is really happening.
I eventually wanna pimp out my laptop with the best processor and graphic cards available, yes it'll probably cost more but we could always sell our old processors and graphics.. And the price of them when I buy them may eventually go down when I get around to it lol I just wouldnt gamble right now especially with what's already happening, I just want my laptop asap. -
If you arnt happy with what you ordered cancel it now and wait to re-order when what you want is available (this is usually easier).
If you really want I have heard of being able to modify your order (wont be possible to change to the 6970m if you got the 3D package / screen). However this is completely variable depending on the reps you talk to, some of them may help you out others will tell you its not possible and you must cancel / re-order.
Also if you just keep your order the way it is there is still the 21 day return policy, if you arnt happy with your unit you can usually get a rep to give you a full refund if your re-ordering another Dell / Alienware.
Of course the problem with doing either of these atm is the the R3 isnt currently available and while the 6970m was an option in many places, it wasnt up on the US site before the SB recall. It ' should' be available soon after the R3 is re-launched. -
wow sucks you cant configure the xps17 on aafes. thats a dang good deal they have
-
oh yea there are a couple of people on the direct2dell fourm that are claiming they have recieved shipping confirmation on Aura r3's
