Wow I don't know why they keep calling u to cancel, that only happen once to me to a guy I had already talked to and only when I call to ask about my edd they ask and I say no, but that is just weird that they consistently keep asking you specifically
-
What are your specs and what country are you in?
-
@dookie11
I also ordered mine with the 2720qm, 460m, 60hz1080p screen and mine still says in production with my EDD at 3/30 (it's been changed like 3 times) and I've gotten a message saying that I should cancel mine and reorder with a different CPU because of the "sandy bridge issue" which is a load of bs since the CPUs weren't affected. -
Portland OR USA
Intel Core i7 2820QM 2.3GHz (3.4GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz (4DIMMS)
17.3-inch WideFHD 1920x1080 120Hz WLED w/ NVIDIA 3D Vision Bundle
1.5GB GDDR5 Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M
1.5TB Raid 0 (2x 750GB 7,200RPM) -
It change only the status, the EDD still 4/13 this is not right in opinion, I guess the EDD must change if the status is in delivery preparation
-
It seems funny how all the people posting that their status is changing to something indicating production is complete got theirs with either a 2630qm or 2820qm.
Idk if it matters but I'm in San Jose CA. -
I don't know what to tell, status change from "in production" to "delivery preparation" the EDD didn't change and my account it's not been charge......I thing if it's really in delivery preparation then my account supose to be already charge......
-
My Dell account has been charged but they haven't sent me the bill yet. If I remember correctly Dell said they won't send the bill till it ships. And like I said a csr told me to cancel and reorder with a different CPU and said it won't ship till mid April.
-
In my opinion they (csr) don't know what to tell, every csr I talked it tell me different, it will shipp in mid april, we fix the issue and will be soon available and bla bla bla every one that I call.....so I think they don't really know what to tell.........
-
Agreed. Hopefully mine changes tomorrow.
-
Good Luck for the best......

m17x r3 available now for configuration. Try it out guys. $250 for the 6970m upgrade. -
Does anyone see where you can add an extra battery? It says you can but it only has an extra AC adapter ><
-
Nice catch Typecast +1. Glad to see the price of a system comes out exactly what I had orderred. Only, if I orderred now, the estimated ship date would be 2 1/2 weeks earlier than my current one.
-
Thanks for all the updates everyone. After checking my order status online (no change, still EDD of 3/30) I decided to call the 1-800 number and my order now says shipping preparation (yesturday it still said "in production" with no further info). So we shall see
-
IT's BACK!!!!
CLICKY!!!
I told you guys it would be on the 3rd of march
-
my status changed to delivery prep. as well and i ordered a 2720
-
It's back! And with the 6970! But it's not yet available on aafes
-
Oh. Hey dude, Can you update us if the aafes deal was back? Thanks!
-
Has anyones computer actually shipped???
I just talked to customer care... and they still claim that the old orders will not ship until april. -
We know more than them, cr's just say whatever will shut us up.. Even when I found out that they got new shipments in and i thought they wouldve been informed by now, yesterday I figured that non of them know anything about it other than it was recalled ( which is new news to them)
-
mine just got updated with "in production, in the Boxing phase" with an EDD of 9March with 2 day shipping so ill know monday if it ships
-
It's on AFFES now but no 30% off.
-
just spoke to a csr rep who told me that my order is ready to ship they are just waiting for a tracking number to be generated so that they can send it out. i hope this is true and i can finally stop calling them i think ive started hearing "2 tones followed by a brief pause" in my sleep
-
what it's the status??? of your order?? it's delivery preparation??
-
yes, yes and yes. funnily enough my edd is still 4/13 lol
-
Big roger on that. Glad I kept my order in place...$768 more speccing it on AAFES now.
Hmmm...maybe that's why they want everyone to cancel
.
-
Mine just passed in production today, i'm in france
2820QM and 6970M -
I'm still waiting to find out if I can modify my order under AAFES to the 6970M without blowing the discount.
If not I'll just live with the 460M until I need something more and then upgrade it myself. -
So glad i waited too. Going to stay with the 460M too never had good luck with ATI cards.
-
Yay with the 1800alienware thing it says my order is being prepared to ship.
-
I've had the misfortune of having three Geforce 7800/7900's burn out in my wife's Inspiron E1705, and a desktop 8800 GTS that gave me endless problems due to a driver issue Nvidia knew about but determined was not important enough to program around. I have no issues with their performance, but can't feel good about using one if something else is available. (Hoping to recover the $$$ I spent repairing those cards via the class-action lawsuit.)
In other news, my aafes rep responded that he put forward the request to dell to modify my order to the 6970M, so we'll see what happens. My EDD hasn't changed, and progress is still "In Production." -
I hope you get what you want, I'm having some regrets since all that wait was like nothing for me.
I might return the system that I'll be getting after one week or so to get the 6970(Will wait if the 485 aftermarket upgrade will work).
@Topic
I was able to expedite mine this afternoon and also upgrade the shipping to NBD. I just hope I'll see some changes on my order status soon. -
What number did you call? My rep told me they cannot expedite and they are not shipping out any systems
-
I'm also considering on swapping the 460 with the 485 eventually after i get my laptop. (mine still says 'in production'. ordered on 1/28/11) Anyways, after some googling, how Would one get a hold of the 485's?
-
Read below.
Nah, aafes isn't shady. They're really kind when it comes to this kinda thing.
You've got to cancel and reorder through aafes, mang. Check my pm also.
Your order is not expedited simply cuz they changed it to NBD. They did that as common courtesy for us all. Sorry to bust yer ballz
Anywhoo, my usual daily updates are as follows:
So I spoke to a csr supervisor today (same cat that I spoke to yesterday). He cancelled my order almost instantly lolz. Then he instructed me to call aafes and to reorder. So at lunchtime, I called aafes, and spoke to the dell rep. He acknowledged the cancellation, and said that he will relay the message to his "point of contact" at dell, who will call me tomorrow so I can reorder and get the config I want (cuz the R3 wasnt available on aafes this afternoon 1pm PST). In a nutshell, I basically have "store credit" with aafes, and the 30% discount remains. I will also have the 30% discount for the upgrade to the 6970, and the upgrade for my warranty. Unfortunately, they cannot offer me the discount for accessories (a pair of Logitech steering wheels LOLZ).
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with the way they handled this within the last couple of days. The aafes guy remembered me, and we both laughed it off. Hope things will go well tomorrow when someone at dell is "supposed to call me." Otherwise, I will just call aafes and get it sorted out, since most of you say that the R3 is back on aafes's systems.
For those of you who missed out on the 30% deal on aafes, stuff's still 10% off, and of course no tax and free shipping. If you do decide to order, you might wanna try calling dell when your system is "In production" and ask them to change it to NBD for ya.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to pm me or reply to this post.
Thx guys for always being there for me
^^ You can tell how much happier I am today, compared to the entire month of February lol. I admit that I really am happy about this, and hope things turn out well for ya'll. -
+1 nice!
see that, good things do ndeed come to those who wait!
be sure to update that sig when you've finally gotten it ordered to your desired specs dood!
congrats, and njoy!
-
Thanks. Check ur pm box.
-
Is the 6970 really worth the extra $$$ for gaming? If it is might consider doing the same with aafes
-
Sorry, should have been more clear. AAFES has always been good. I was referring to the reports of Dell csr's constantly harping on folks to cancel and reorder. While it could have been csr's trying to make commission (which seems unlikely due to the consistent barrage across all csrs reported here), I suspect it was more Dell pushing due to pricing errors and such.
Anyway, glad it's all almost over and we can all get back to what we like doing best! -
+1 rep for positivity and optimism which I find hard to create out of this whole situation. Hope I get the phone call from the dell contact today. Otherwise I'm just gonna call aafes directly and do it the "right way" since the R3 is now up for order on there. Or maybe I should just call aafes directly, so I don't have to wait for the dell person to send a quote back and forth to aafes.
-
So dookie, What specs are you now getting?
-
The same as my old one in my sig but with the 6970 instead. Now before I go get ready for work and leave home, you guys are SURE that the 6970 has switchable graphics, right? Cuz the laptopmag article states that it has "automatic switching" which refers to the 460m only. Unless I'm missing something else here.
Please advise. TYIA! -
It will be the same like the 6870m for sure, So no worries! Thanks for the heads up on the aafes. Finally, Our r3 problems are solved. Few more weeks and we will enjoy our systems!
-
Switchable like the 6870? That means 5hours+ battery for sure? !!! WOO!!!
(please confirm this statement before I go take a dump lolz)> -
Not sure for the 5hours, but still it would be an advantage on the 460m.
-
Yeah, it should work just like my wife's HP, where you can tell it to either 1) automatically switch when I'm on battery (screen flashes dark for a second when it switches) or 2) tell it not to switch unless you tell it to.
The biggest difference is since Optimus always runs the video through the IGP, you don't get that screen flash when it switches between the IGP and the Discrete GPU. With AMD/ATI switchable graphics, it flashes for a second because it is actually switching sources. It works just fine. -
Okay. So switchable for sure, right? I'm too anxious, and really need to go poop, so I'm hoping someone says YES to this
-
Hold on, I remembered reading before that the 6970m has like a optimus. But im not sure with this. I think someone saw this at dell UK site.
-
I've seen lots of people say the 460M is more than adequate for todays games, and can run just about everything at max. The 6970M is said to be about 33% more powerful on average. You most likely won't need it right now, unless you plan to drive a much higher resolution external monitor, so to me the real question is: how often do you buy a new laptop?
I generally hang onto laptops for several years (My XPS M1530 has lasted me three I believe), so I'm willing to spend the extra dough for a bit more performance that will carry me a bit further. If, however, I was somone who was buying a new laptop every year, I'd save that $175 and chuck it in the bank for the next one.
