Just an update on the status of drivers. My settings ultimately did not prevent a connection drop out. Stock drivers are the most stable.

I did notice that when I tried to uninstall the killer network software/drivers whilst the connection dropped out there was a process/application holding up the uninstallation, which was only fixed by enabling airplane mode off and on. Must be something to do with the killer network manager, even though its set to be switched off.

lol i have the problem on drop out connection ONLY at evening and only on TERA game, for resolve this issue is sufficient i disable the option better game performance on killer software and all work, but i repeat during the day with TERA i have no problem with better game performance enabled. With all other game works very very good always with better game performance enabled.

This is strange why only at evening and only with TERA dont work :p

So, I'm going on the third week of owning my system. The past few days of use I've been noticing the bars decrease to 2 and 3 on the wireless notification (bottom right corner). I'm probably 12 feet away from the router with one wall in between. When I first got the laptop, it was always 5 bars - full strength. Does anyone know why it is changing all of a sudden? Does it need to be updated or something?

Would disabling dynamic tick on Win 8 help with lag and dropout issues?

Just an update, Dell released a driver for killer wireless. Seems to be newer than the ones from killergaming.

Current verison on killer is 6.xxx
    Dell version is 10.xxx

Drivers are for windows 8, but I dont see why it wont work for 7.

Working fine at the minute, completely stock + default.

Is Killer 1202 over hyped? I just bought my Alienware but it seems to be working fine.

I don't have any issues OP is referring to? Is it common? Since I'm within my return period, I could always switch to the 2230. I prefer reliability over tweaked out performance that's unstable.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. It's started dropping my wifi as well.

Yeah had a few drops, especially after playing a game came back to limited connection.

Go to killer network manager and disable monitoring,

Killer network manager > advanced > application control 'disabled' , do not enable gaming optimisation and disable auto updates.

No issues after that so far, looks like something in the manager is killing the connection under windows 8. I suspect gaming mode or some sort of bandwidth control by killer network manager.

Get issues on crappy free router they give you with ISP, but apple airport extreme has issues as well. Disabling anything to do with bandwidth control and using latest drivers has been stable for me so far.

Did change a few advanced settings, there are less on the new driver I think not 100% sure. Will keep you up to date, let us know about that new card if it sorts any issues.

hey guys, i'm using a sager np9150 and i'm also getting connection drops. thing is...for the first couple of months, it was perfectly fine but then afterwards (im not sure if this is related but i've noticed my laptop getting hotter than normal, found out it went to 91 degrees when gaming) it started disconnecting. Usually only when i play league, won't disconnected under normal circumstances.
i think i've read somewhere that this might not be related to the card issue, is that true? also i tried using atheros drivers, but i also get dced and ping is crazier than normal.

UPDATE: Alright so i installed the new Wifi card and installed fresh drivers which dell provided me with and all is running fine, No drop outs under heavy loads or any issues.

I haven't even disabled any setting on the Network Manager so its looking promising.

Heh Guys, I got the same issue on my M17xR4. I upgraded from Windows 7 64 to Windows 8 64. Installed the latest Windows 8 Drivers and killer software and get constant disconnects in game (Planetside2). I've had to uninstall the killer software which seems to have fixed the problem but it is a poor solution - I would have expected more from Killer! Am gonna submit a ticket on their site.

    Hi Guys,

Ever since I've had this laptop (since July 2012) I have had issues with the internet. I randomly get "limited or no connectivity" and this usually happens for a few days and then its good for 1-2 months, then back to issues. When it happens, I get this probably every 5 minutes and my internet disconnects. Recently though, it's been happening for around a week+. I even bought a new router in case it was that but low and behold 10 minutes after using the new router it disconnects again. If the connection is wired it's fine though.

I've googled around and people have disabled Ipv6 and other various things but nothing has fixed it. By the way I have the Killer-N 1103 card

Has anyone else ever had this?

I have this EXACT issue with windows 7, I've had it since I got m17x. I actually just made a thread about it and now I find this, oops. For me I would have bad connection for a few days, then it would go back to normal for like a month or more, then it would come back. I even bought a new router just in case (which i will be taking back tomorrow since it did nothing). Going to try out the default drivers

I havent had any killer card issues on mine for past 8 months since i got my r4...but i do know drivers had been buggy before especially on r3

I use Killer_Wireless_E220x_6_1_0_395_Win7_64bit driver....try to look it up..

Also ensure you clean uninstall your Killer driver..or else it sometimes messes up the whole thing. Its not necessary to frequently change your driver unless u are facing a specific problem or could get a big advantage over the current one.

Drivers for Windows 8 are still not stable to my knowledge in most categories.

Are you, by chance, using windows 8? It seems as if the Killer drivers have issues with windows 8. I find that if the killer drivers are uninstalled and you allow windows to install its own driver the connection is much more stable.

I'm using windows 7. I uninstalled whatever driver I had and I've tried maybe 4-5 diff drivers and they all are having issues. I'm going to phone Dell tomorrow and see what they can do, maybe I can swap this card for one of their Intel ones or something.

question....when you guys say you let windows install the default drivers, how is it finding them? When I uninstall the driver and then click "update driver" then search online for them, it comes up with nothing. I do have internet access since I'm wired right now so I would think it would find it. Do you happen to have the name of the driver? maybe I can search for it online

Using stock Qualcomm Atheros drivers for the AR9380 family of wifi cards. Seems ok. No luck with killer network drivers. The qualcomm ones seem newer than the standard windows 8 drivers.

Atheros & Zidas drivers Look for AR9XXX drivers.

Seem ok for now, only time will tell I guess

I have an m18x r2 with a Killer wifi card which keeps disconnecting every few seconds-minutes. I've had a tech replace the card with a new one and the problem still persists. I have tried connecting an internet cable and that works fine. I have also tried re-installing the drivers (both old and new) but to no avail. What do you think the problem could be? I have other devices in my house connected to the internet without any problems, so it can't be the modem/router.

i had similar issues with my modem/router it could actually be the settings on the router or just the router itself not being able to support the amount of connections via wireless to it and resets resulting in the loss of internet for a few seconds to 1 or 2 minutes check your settings to see how many connections you have and slowly disconnect them to see if it makes an improvement otherwise just buy a stronger router its what i had to do now i get no drop outs

ps type of router/internet modem would be extra info to add to be more specific to help

We already have a Killer WiFi problem thread. It's not unique to the M18x. I will move this new thread into the old one for you. It seems that you're one of many Killer WiFi owners with this kind of problem.

Going to try them soon, looks like the latest driver version for killer wireless so far.

The modem and router are actually the same unit - a two in one that was provided by my ISP (It is a Motorola SB5101). I currently have 4 computers, an ipad, and 1 cell phone connected to the internet. I tried disconnecting the others and the problem persists. I called tech support again and after 2 hours over the phone, he couldn't figure out what the problem was. We tried reinstalling the drivers (both dell and the ones from the killer website, as well as the Atheros ones). Generally, surfing the web is fine but when I'm downloading a large file on steam or streaming a movie, I get disconnected. The tech support agent suggested having the antenna replaced (which is located in the LCD) therefore I have to get the LCD replaced as well. I am really at a loss as to what can be causing this. Since I've tried the Dell and Atheros drivers, I'm guessing it's probably a hardware issue?

Got a problem with my own card now... it was disconnecting at random so I uninstalled the current set of drivers and tried others, to no avail. Suddenly Windows decided to install its own set of drivers called "Qualcomm Atheros Osprey Wireless Network Adapter #2" and it's even more glitchy than all the other drivers I've tried. Tried re-installing the Killer drivers but now it says that my platform is non-Dell and thus not supported. Tried uninstalling the drivers but no use, and a restart just leads back to the same problem of Windows reinstalling the same drivers. Any help please? I got W7 HP.

You dont need to uninstall the drivers before you install the killer ones, just try installing killer ones with the stock windows drivers present as well.

Tried it already, no use. Still says that the platform is non-Dell, tried both versions of the Killer drivers present on the Dell website, same result

Edit - managed to "convert" it back to Killer Wireless N-1103, although strangely it still says #2 next to it. The disconnections are still there though... guess I need a reliable set of drivers. Could anyone be so kind as to upload their working drivers/setup on Google Drive?

Well, brand new m18x R2 owner here, and another new guy to join the rest of you with killer wireless issues...

For me, it's not drop outs or lag spikes - it's lack of connectivity at all. At my inlaw's house - on my old rig, 4 years old or more, and can see 4 different networks from the neighbor's houses plus my in-law's network at 5 bars. If I switch to the shiny new m18x with the 1103 'premium' card, I see only one network - my inlaws - and that's only at 2 bars. I tried it yesterday right next to the router with the m18x - 2 feet away - and still had 2 bars. The wife's old Inspiron likewise sees 4 or 5 networks, including the home one at 5 bars.

And with those 2 bars, I can't connect - system keeps saying unable to connect. Tried tweaking settings and some of the other proposed fixes in this thread, but nothing helps yet.

Anyway, just curious; I've seen a lot of drops/lag spikes reports in the thread, but haven't seen too many issues of lousy reception and flat-out unable to connect. Anyone have any thoughts? This card ought to be able to at least equal the performance of my old system, I'd think!

edit: thought it might be worthwhile to add that immedietely after I boot the system, the network will briefly show as 5 bars (though I still can't see any other networks). I try to connect, it says unable, then shows 2 bars when I try to connect again...

Noticed lately that it can depend on your router as well. Was recently on a apple airport extreme network and my connection hasn't dropped out at all, even at long distances with the signal at 2-3 bars.

At home its been a bit worse, even though I typically am around 5-10m away from the router with 4-5 bar signal I get dropouts.

What router are you trying to connect to? Personally I have better range and throughput with the killer card than something like a desktop wireless card or even a macbook.

First of all, apologies for not posting in the main Killer Wireless thread, but I did post there and I got no helpful answers at all. Besides, I'm more attached to the exclusive M18x niche community! You could merge the thread to the main one at a later date maybe

Well, same problem as everyone else - I have Win7 HP by the way. I get 4/5 bars so that's definitely not an issue... it's the drivers, since I tend to get random disconnections or huge lag spikes in online games. I tried every driver conceivable which I found on the Internet, including the latest ones from here:

    http://www.station-drivers.com/page/atheros.htm

After that, I tried fiddling with the settings on the Manager... removed game stabilization, still nothing. Uninstalled the Manager, nothing changed. Then I tried letting Windows install its own drivers, and it installed this:

    Atheros Osprey Wireless Network Driver

Also, a #2 appeared near the name of the network device on Device Manager. Ever since then, the problem has become much more severe, and it's unmanageable now. Before, a reset used to work for me - now it's hopeless. When I tried to reinstall the Killer drivers, it said that non-Dell platforms are not supported... ran the Killer cleaner and uninstalled every driver and still nothing, let Windows reinstall its own drivers and then installed the Killer Wireless driver on top of it. It worked, but now it's labelled #3 and the problem is still there - as bad as ever.

Any tips would be appreciated... I can't afford taking it to Dell techs for now as I need the M18x badly until the start of summer, so if nothing else works, I'll have to buy a powerline and just connect via Ethernet, if that's possible.

P.S. - I did not find any older "stable" drivers, so maybe if someone could upload their working drivers on Google Drive, that would be awesome. Also maybe some tip in getting rid of this # issue next to the card name in Device Manager... ever since that appeared, as I said, the problem has become much worse

    Hey guys,

I'm one of the unlucky people having troubles with their Killer 1103 trying to get it to work on windows 8. I'm also having stability issues with my connection when it is under heavy load (gaming, youtube, etc) and I have been reading this topic for the past few days since I put my hands on my M17x R4 and have tried everything to get the killer wireless to work properly. All your suggestions are much appreciated since I can, at least, gain some stability but I'm losing my patience every time I lose access to the internet.

What version of drivers are you guys running on at the moment?

    Thanks!

Just to let you know I'm running the driver version 10.0.1.71 or killer suite version .547 (beta). The station drivers link above in the thread will point you to them.

As I have said in the past check your game optimisation and application logging settings and disable them in the killer network manager.

Also check what router your running, might be a cheap one and time for an upgrade. Personally the cheap crappy one the ISP supplies is awful, and only good as a modem, but it depends I guess.

Remember to restart vs shut down when your having driver issues, shut down hibernates all drivers whereas restart will start them fresh.
