3lbs would be 1/4 the weight of the M17x.
I'll let you guys know when mine gets here -
When will you be updating that sig, eh? You should have a giveaway for the best sig lol
-
Patience, young jedi
lol
I am just being lazy, I guess. -

@ lemon
Let it go about not being an exact clone....NO ONE said it would/should be. I would be disappointed in Dell if it was since that would mean that they ignored ALL customer feedback they have gotten since June. It is now easier to access, the smudges at the crest of the screen did annoy me, and they took off some purely aesthetic vents....so what
Stop trying to make up reasons to shoot down a good looking and powerful notebook -
Looks like Alienware is also refreshing its Area-51 Desktop line soon as well.

Maybe we'll see a new line of Area-51 Laptops shortly afterwards eh? -
-
yes you are correct those were announced with the M15x
-
The Aurora Line was announced with the M15x, the Area-51 Desktop's are not yet available. You are all thinking about the Aurora Desktops.
Why else would they have the banner above the M17x, M15x, and Aurora lineup here:

The area 51 desktops were announced with the rest of the lineup. Just not for sale yet.
See here. -
if i could get one of those cases
-
I know it, moo.
Those cases are wicked! -
...makes me wanna order a desktop but i would be ashamed of myself for spending so much money on a prebuilt overpriced desktop
-
Maybe AW will sell the case only (sometime around xmas in 2010) lol
-
no they would not ..... never have and Dell will not ever..... i would have to get the coolest rep ever
-
Alienware did sell their cases before. I remember seeing them for like $200+ on Alienware.com
-
Yes, AW did sell cases as of two weeks ago.
-
If the one with the moving top goes on sale, I will buy it. In fact I was even considering buying that desktop not just the case, but reconsidered. I'll be on the lookout for sure.
-
they were only doing that to get rid of them
-
I dunno.
Even HP was selling just the firebird cases for a minute.
I believe that if Dell thinks there is any chance to make some $$$, they will do it. -

If the Aurora cases go on sell (the mATX ones) I may be extremely tempted to get one. I got an awesome mATX system but it is only in an Antec Mini P180 (still an awesome case). I would not mind at all some automatic vents and bada$$ AlienFX lighting haha

Gawd, I hope AW sells their cases, I would buy one. I'd still build my own system inside, but would love their case....

Actually Alienware was selling those cases last year as well . They dont have them for sale all the time though. With Dell at the helm who knows if it will happen again but im sure if they see a profit in selling the cases they certain will sell them .

if they sell the aurora mATX case I will consider it
-
That ALX looks quite sexy..
I'm ashamed to say I thought that the ALX were the Aurora and they just hadn't taken that page down, but upon further examination, they do look different.
I prefer the ALX xD -
Has it been confirmed that the top vents open when the case gets to a certain temp? If so that is some really unique stuff they brought this time, however though I would consider the case I am sure it would cost a lot
-
does the compact version got the same motorised vent?
-
-
Wow that is pretty awesome, they definitely did a good job bringing some new ideas this time around
I am going to say no on the lower end aurora cases, I am sure they want you to purchase the ALX for that kind of magic -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
If by compact you mean mATX Aurora, those are supposed to be motorised
The Area 51 (Full ATX) aint even out yet

All-New, Aggressive Design
With the Alienware Aurora ALX, you'll be living and breathing in high performance. Alienware's most powerful MicroATX desktop will help you dominate at a LAN event. Use its all-new, motorized vents to manage your thermals and intimidate the competition. And you can personalize the Cosmic Black machine with lighting effects in eight different zones.
Active Venting — This Alienware-exclusive feature helps your system stay cool in the heat of battle. Controlled through Alienware's Command Center, the five mechanical vents are triggered when the chassis reaches high thermal values. -

Unh... led screen

i hate the microatx aurora cases they look so plain not alienware style but affordable i can put better parts in them 2000.00 for the full atx desktop is ridicoulous my spending limit for an alienware is 2000 but maybe if i chip in 300-600.00 maybe i can get the area 51 for 2000.00 and just upgrade parts as i get the money
-
does anyone know what the base config is for area 51 desktop for 2000.00
-
The Area-51 Desktop's have not yet been released.
