what is the benefit of imaging the drive?

i could just ghost the baby to get it all nice and covered in case something goes wrong right?

 

Reasons:
Ghost is not free legally.
Ghost is now from Norton.
Ghost has some support issues with USB drives.

 

Download the ever popular Hiren Boot CD. Current version is 9.6. It has a copy of Ghost on the disc and a convient DOS-driven means of using it, along with the dozens of other utilities on the CD image.

Great, as long as ghost is free.

Ghost is to image hard drive too, so there is no difference between the program I recommend.

if you got windows vista ultimate with all the protection it offers, it also has some sort of program that can image it right? can somebody confirm this? unfortunately mine is sitting at home unopened for i am away for the week at my parent's house ; ;...

 

Im wondering what some drivers do, since ive installed only 3/4 of the drivers "i should" and my system works just fine, im curious what the other drivers are there for

1. M 17 OSD 2.01 (installed it at the end but the system used to work even without it, and why does it need a startup process ?
2. Keyboard Controller BIOS 130C and M17 B10 BIOS (couldnt possible uninstalled those after the format since they are bios drivers, just wondering whats their purpose exactly )
3. M17 e-SATA driver
4. M17 Intel Matrix Storage driver
5. M17 Turbo Memory Driver (a driver for something M17 doesnt have ?)

2. The b10 must be their BIOS revision that still doesn't overclock the CPU - can someone post a link for me to download? And the KBC is a kernel/controller that can affect fan speeds, power distribution, and basically the ACPI.
3. Only used if u have external SATA drives
4. A necessity - controls your storage devices like hard drives. It's the communication system but vista has it built in to their install DVD. Check your version against theirs and update if necessary. Or download via intel.
4. Turbo mem driver is for when they finally figure out how to get it To work with this system. OCZ doesn't work with it yet either.

hmm..no BIOS on the cd - at least not in .rom or .bin or .wph format. Theres a couple VB Scripts.. Doubt that would be them. *shrugs* I'll mess around with it later. Thanks again

oh..and you may wanna see if there is a file extension I just mentioned somewhere on that CD. Cause, that's the only way to flash a BIOS afaik. Ohhh.. the VBScript is probably meant to install the BIOS from the DVD that you have. So, for sure..search for .wp* .ro* .bi* and see what it finds

yea.. I know. That's exactly what I have. It is a DVD or a CD? And, possibly there is a second DVD - OR they built the BIOS into the boot sector of this one so it can't be seen unless you extract the boot sector. Cold be wrong..but doubt it.

 

Seems like a cd, although you must download all these drivers. Not sure if they come with the drivers cd they send, since mine was blank

 

lol - then that may be the one needed. This ISO you sent is a bootable but it references booting from DVD as it cant run thru Windows. I assume theres a secondary DVD/CD it accesses to flash or as I said..it's just in the boot sector. Anyhow, gotta run. Thanks again CooL

M17 Keyboard Controller BIOS 130D is out, but I do not recommend update until release note or more info is available.

I will call roswell to ask tomorrow.

 

Has anyone looked through the start up programs that the m17 comes with and made a list of what is needed or not needed? That could be good for this thread.
Maybe a link to the best place/post to go to optimize Vista, the best post I saw was 3 months ago and I wish I would have saved it.

What needs to be update first is realtek's hosting service.

Yea same here, have to keep trying all 3 sources till something works fast since most of the time they dont even work!

 

I would like to read the release note before I try to download it.

Cant seem to be able to find what exactly did they change is this new version. But releasing 2 drivers in less than a month usually means something is wrong with the previous drivers, im going to test them in an hour or so since im not home at the moment. Doubt it will have any visual differences to tell the difference apart from bug fixes though.

2nd and 3rd link didnt work for me at all, it just opened an empty ftp for me

So basically i started downloading from the first mirror and let it there for like 40mins
Depends on your luck, managed to get 100kb+ from the 3rd one when i was download the 2.12 ones

Kept bouncing from 5kb to 10kb

 

So downloaded and installed, have not noticed anything new or fixed.

Less bugs is always better, even if they are not visible, you never know

hey fusion did u mean the touchpad software is buggy/broken? cause yea i'm having problems getting it to work right now while mouse is not connected or in safe mode. gotta get this fixed.

 

You don't need the alienware software to change touchpad settings.
What's the problem you have? Try uninstall the alienware?

 

yea i've tried uninstalling it and restarting the system and have it auto reinstall drivers, but that didn't work either. i dont know man, the touchpad just stopped working a couple days ago out of the blue. just like alot of other programs on my computer.

i'm also having troubles reinstalling e-wrecked's modded ati drivers for some reason, lol but thats a whole nother story.

 

You sure you didn't disable it by pressing FN + F5?

 

someone now how i eneable the optical output?

I try to update my A/V Reciever Over this an i thnik the Soundfile for Update don´t go out over this with the new Realtek Driver.

He say only SPIF is one Digital Out

 

azuma- did you update the audio drivers without cleaning the older version out? Also, is their a red light coming from the optical out?
