I think that I am endlessly dissapointed that this system will be a very LARGE system. I wish that it could have been the size of the 9750.

What makes you think it will be released this next week.

Ive got a support person that is supposed to give me a heads up when its coming out. He may not want me saying anything if he tells me - and Ill honor that, but I can certainly say he hasnt told me anything.

Im currently looking at other options. If I see the m17x released soon and it doesnt have all the options that were advertised originally, and the m15x doesnt still either. I will be buying some other laptop and giving up on Alienware altogether. 3 faulty m9750s (all with teh same major problem) and endless waiting for the m15x, m17x, I just am not impressed by anything other than the "illusion" that we can all have really cool power laptops.

Alienware is becoming a fantasy company in my mind. They put out a great laptop but its got the old chipset (m9750) when it comes out, and I have to go through over 4 months just to get faulty machines. New laptops announced to be state of the art, but by the time they are gonna really come out with all options, they are not really anymore. Not to mention theres many problems and many options that may never be available that got people excited.

Alienware seems more about cool dreams about cool laptops than anything in reality.

I was told by a special customer support person that it would be mid Feb. Where are we now for a laptop announced in November. 4 months later, no laptop, when they come out, it will be about 6 or so before people get their hands on one.

I think that the m17x might come out soon because they lower the price of the m9750 even more ($1299) so that probably means that they are trying to get rid of the old inventory. Just my guess

No more m9750. I just hope the m17x is less faulty than the m15x. (Amazing response for keyboard, and touchcontrols)

This is just my guess...I think the m17x will be held back until Montevenia. It will then be the Dell/Alienware latest and greatest 17" laptop.

Certainly possible but its also the 2nd or 3rd time the m9750 price has been dropped since the long wait for the m17x was announced in November. I thought the same thing after the last price drop to $1499.

If they still have inventory, and want to speed up the number of sales they make, they will continue to lower the price until they feel they have reached an optimal quantity demanded for the m9750.
I'd look for the m17x to come out early April.

Agreed re the m9750...my point really was that the price drop does not necessarily mean that the release of the m17x is imminent...may take awhile until the price drop causes the m9750 inventory to be depleted, assuming the stock of the m9750 and the release of the m17x are connected in some way.

Any been able to get a price adjustment if you bought an m9750 and price recently dropped?

I'm still within the 30-day guarantee window and my laptop config went from $4000 to $3600, so assuming I have to pay the full 15% restocking fee it's a wash.

I agree with "The Bad Ass", When Alienware release the eagerly awaited M17X, i'm guessing everyone will know about it because, the news will be broadcast across NBR quicker than they can get the official relase emails out!!!

I am checking the net daily for any snippets so i'm fairly sure that we are all doing the same lol

I must admit that IF they do release the M17X with Montevina it would be great but, i must admit that i think it's unlikely, due to Mon' being released in or around June, apparently...

just a thought....you can get a very nicely equipped m9750 for about 2000 with 2ghz cpu, 2gb ram, vista, 160gb hdd, dual 7950gtx. now i think you can upgrade the 7950s with dual 8800mGTX for a discount price, let say 800. so for 2800 you can get an alienware with the 8800mGTX SLi no? i mean its pretty darn cheap for an SLi notebook.

There's no guarantee that the m9750 will be upgradeable to 8800m SLI. There have been various unconfirmed reports that it will or may be upgradeable but nothing official from Alienware.

I am going to buy one in July/August, depending when i finish saving lol
To be honoset it will be my first AW although i have wanted one for years.

I tried to get more information from Frank, however he has not responded. I got the impression he is being either watched or fairly consious of the fact that if he says anything and it doesn't "come true" then he will be liable for causing alot of abuse and bad feelings towards "Alienware" from a lot of poeple on NBR, even if it's a simple mistake. I guess he does not want to risk doing or saying anything that could be took the wrong way.

To be honest i thinks he's doing the right thing. He's being very helpful in sorting issues with the M15X, i'm just hoping that should the M17X have similar issues (hopefully not) he will help the same.

He did not give me a date or any infos, but at the end of the conversation he sayd "check the site back in 2 weeks"

If they are having problems keeping the m15x parts in stock and causing major delays it may be a little longer till someone actually has a m17x in their hands. To me it really doens't matter when they release it cause look at our friends over seas (UK) I don't know of anyone over there that has even received their m15x.

The reason i'm not rushing to buy a Dell XPS 1730, is basically price £4200+ fully loaded, the risk of getting the rubbish of the three lcd screens they use, it looks ok but.... and finally AW, they built kick-ass computers.

£4200 ? your joking.... ? mine was a lot less than that....

I gave up waiting, looked at an M15x looked at the price compared to the M1730 and ordered the M1730.....

But lets be honest they are all all decent machines....

I just looked at the M15x again, but it came out to just $300 less than a 1730, with a worse warranty and no second GPU (though I'd probably skip that if they offered a single 8800GTX).

I'm still torn on what to buy. These high end systems are SOOOO much money. Hopefully the 1730 can at least run Folding @ Home all the time...

This was when they were first released, i almost got one then, glad i didn't because they had loads of problems with graphics not working.

At the moment Dell are messing with the specs, they aren't using the 2.8 Penryn which is a shame

I haven`t heared from anyone in Europe who got the m15x shipped at this point. And my guess is that it won`t happen until end of April.

There are 2 things which keep me from order an XPS1730:

    1) Its fri**** UGLY
    2) NO portability.

    The good thing is:
NO issues with downclocking, an overclockable Extreme CPU, two GPUs. 13000 3d-Marks (`06) out of the box. The 15.000 line should be beatable with better drivers/ optimized os. As far as I can see most owners are happy with their purchase...

I really, really hope AW makes an u-turn and starts to stand up to their promises. The m15x could be a hell of a machine imho.

So basically anyone in the UK is getting a bum-deal :(

Ho hum, i'd only consider buying the XPS1730 if the M17X is absolutely rubbish, too expensive and all reviews say the 1730 is much better lol but, it's an option as Sager appear to be only availabel in the USA too.

Hey guys. There could be a chance that they will jack the price of the M9750 up before they release the M17x. If anyone remembers, the M5550's price was jacked up a few days before it was taken off the site so they could try to get as much money possibly off of it those last few days.

I don't know if it is going to happen with the M9750, but it is a possibility.

@OP - Once ANYTHING about the M17x is released there will be probably a good 20 threads on here with people asking about "what processor does it have" when it says it on the site.

i think the m17x only make sense if you go with 2 x 8800gtx SLI. And that will much more than 3000$, and the m15x is for the price very nice.

From reviews, the 1730 sounds like a much nice machine than those Sagers. It's supposed to run much quieter than those, even with dual 8800GTX cards versus one.
