Check out Anandtech's review (at least I think that's where it was). I've heard from people with the system too that it runs pretty quiet even under full load (unless you overclock on an extreme edition CPU).

I've been REALLY close to ordering one, but it's so much money. I wish they had LED backlighting...although then they'd probably cost even more.

Here is what chaz said once in refernce to these two:

"I have tested both the D900C and the XPS M1730. If I had to choose between the two, it would take me half a heartbeat to choose the Sager. Reasons:
-More solid build quality. The D900C has thicker plastic and a more rigid chassis.
-Better keyboard - the Dell's feels kind of cheap and has flex. The D900C suffers from neither.
-You get what you pay for. IMO the Dell is overpriced compared to what you can get in the Sager for the same amount of money.
-Better performance. There's nothing faster than a D900C. Period.
-Battery life. Believe it or not, the D900C even with the quad-core outlasts the M1730.
-Service. Yes the XPS has better service than the standard Inspiron but service through a reseller like PowerNotebooks or XoticPC will be superior.

Both the M1730 and the D900C are great machines, and I would be happy with either . . . but the Sager has the edge in a head-to-head comparison. Note that this is my OPINION and should be taken as such."

Both run VERY coolly, the clevo more so due to desktop QC proc

Just look back at how many 'two more weeks till release' posts there were about the m17x. I got sick of waiting, and I'm willing to bet in two more weeks there will be posts claiming first week in May for a release. I just got sick of playing that game myself. Good luck though I hope this is the magical two week period everyone is looking for ;)

    Thanks lol

To be honest i won't have the money until July now... so i can wait a bit longer ha ha I really want to see if it;s worth all of the hype though, if not i'm probably going to get a fully loaded 1730... IF the specs are changed for the UK that is?

I think it's worth waiting for (well, hoping anyway?), the M17X should be something special, after all this time waiting etc...

I just think the whole things a bit mad from a marketing point of view.
Potential alienware m17x customers aren't exactly run of the mill types, Alienware is a niche laptop/computer manufacturer and most people that buy from them probably upgrade their laptops regularly.

So I think its kind of daft to treat customers like this - ordinary Joe Soap who merely needs a laptop to run spreadsheets and so on isn't going to be interested in such a high spec laptop. Hence theres a "relatively" small market (they're not manufacturing millions of m17xs) so why would you wan't to alienate your current customers and cause bad press.

I'd be a lot happier if they gave a specific date regardless of when it was,
Even if last November/ December they'd said were bringing a new laptop out but it won't be available untill say first of may. A least you'd have a specific date to plan around or save up for.

as above, i also got sick of waiting around with little to no info from alienware about it. so i settled on a Dell with similar specs and probably saved me £400 or so. i don't get the little AW symbol, but i get just as many lights, similar specs, and i can have it within a week or so.

hopefully AW will get their act together soon though, it would be a shame for problems like that to spoil the release of such a nice machine.

As of now I do not have a cooler. However the zalman one I have heard has been very good and im thinking of getting that. But then again Im still not sure if its worth it for me because when I am at home (which is where the cooler would be useful) I usually use my desktop. So im kinda in a bind.

You mean the Alienware ID tag.

I went on to the M15X config, followed the pages until you come to the ID plate, added the name i wanted and then captured it. I then modified it and you can now see the final version. I'm toying with modifying it a little but...

I can do you one like it, if you want? :)

nah. this close to montevina, alienware isn't gonna bring out a new lappie. they'll wait til june and offer it with montevina, penryn, smartbay, sli 8800gtx's etc. for just under a gazillion dollars.

Oh I know theres loads of companys selling duall 8800gtx's and x9000,
its just they don't have the look or the bragging rights of owning an Alienware. Most laptops seem to have a "spreadsheet computer" kind of look about them
Alienware definitely don't, thats some of the appeal, also I really like the smartbay battery option

I agree, most notebooks seems to look similar, unless made to look different. It's very rare to fid a nice looking notebook, Alienware machines never look "normal" they are all slightly different and that's the attraction i guess. The ability to look different whilst perfoming great at the same time.

I would rather have the cool, funky looking notebook than the plain but, safe version, even if they both perform the same.

Besides which if i don't go for the M17X for some insane reason, my next choice would be the XPS 1730 so neither are.... anti-steal me (",)

I suppose as long as you don't leave it lying around, thats the main prob where I am, lots of peeps left theirs in the college library, y'no went for coffee etc. came back and it'd been nicked,

I really like the steel case alienware have for the laptop but it just SCREAMS steal me and I ususally wander home through relatively rough areas at all hours of the night so prob wouldn't be a good idea.

i would actually rather have a good looking laptop than a bad looking one with the same performance. its the same with a car. you dont want something with good performance to look terrible. i would never buy a alienware branded bag since its basically telling people to jump you and take your laptop >>.

i dont think theres another laptop out there that looks as good as the m15x or the m17x.

I'd guess in your case, you need to have a plain simple back-pack, with an artfully placed rip on one corner, a few scuffs maybe lol

Seems a shame to buy a new bag and "age" it but it would be the coolest camolflage...

    Just my 2p (",)
