oh snap. guess i need to pay more attention...lol

Look up, they already beat the Vantage record. But it seems the 3dmark06 scores won't be touched if the M17x can't get their QX9300s significantly past 3ghz. <----nah, it's not even that..3dmark doesn't run right with nvidia cards & quad cpus... some sort of bug if you ask me.

also, mandrake has the highest dual core 3damrk score as well...

Though that may be the case, remember that 06 is very CPU dependent, even for nVidia cards. I'm sure an M17x (or a NP9280) with two GTX 280Ms clocked at 660|1020|1650 coupled with a QX9300 @ 3.2ghz would touch 17k, though barely.

    yes sir!...he sure is a member! :)

could be very iffy. the hold up is test 1 & 2 (2.0) based off cpu over clock and how data is transferred from the cpu(super speculation here because i don't really know how to explain it). the 3.0 scores are based 95 percent of the gpu over clock(nvidia)

Will be interesting to see if the Sager can push past the 3.06 barrier that everyone seems to be stuck at with the Qx9300 or if Alienware releases a new bios which gives a bit more juice to the Quadcores , seems like all companys dont want to give much voltage to the Quads.

I scored 17,200 or close to it when i had the W90 and Ken lee scored even higher then i did so 17,300 should be a walk in the park since they finally figured out how to properly overclock the video cards.

I think my 1920x1080 scores were in the high 16k's on the W90 in 3d06 cant remember now its been so long though.

Its all about Vantage now and i almost wish 06 would just go die a peaceful death somewhere .

It should, but the reason why people are still using 3dmark06 is because it's free! If the features of the advanced version of Vantage were free, I'm sure 06 would finally fade out of the spotlight.

    For starters, a 700mhz core.

Lol yeah we have to spread the knowledge that 06 is dead now with the performance of todays higher end gpu's

Vantage should be good for another year or two, and also its nice how they have the score include the test used.

    P - Performance
    H - High
    X - Extreme

This remedies one of the larger problems that 06 had when it was a valid benchmark. Many people ran it at a non native resolution and spread false scores not even knowing, but Vantage the resolution is part of the test and will not run that test if you do not run the required resolution.

I dont really agree with the physics part of Vantage though, but atleast they dont let that count in ORB.

Seen lots of great 30"+ HDTV deals latley.

If I didnt have a 37" one already that I use for my monitor I would have had to get one.

I cant wait for price details for that ultra wide alienware monitor. I told my boss he has to get me one for work :D

So I have to tell him it will improve my efficiency 8000% and come up with a lot of numbers to show how it will pay for itself based on that increased work proficiency :D

On the note of the benchmarks, you guys have surpassed the W90 now in Vantage. The most I have personally gotten is like 11,400 in my gpu score.

Though others have gotten higher OC's than me, I am not sure what the max score is. I maybe will have to try to make a new video card bios tonight with higher voltage to see if I can go higher. Just not as much voltage as my last mod, as for some reason it had adverse effects.

The W90 is still way cheaper though and the cards are ice cold even with the huge OC, so its been a good machine investment thus far.

Are your temps high enough you need a cooler?

You can do what I did before I got a cooler and I was benching the C90S.

That's nothing. Back in the day I MacGyver'd a cooler for my Commodore 64's powerbrick out of a small rubbermaid basin, a pencil, and a bathroom exhaust fan. :GEEK:

But on topic how 'bout one of you GTX 260 SLI owners start running some gaming benchmarks before Mandrake and Kcissem use up everyone's +rep.

bad vision is the problem, I can see light/colors but its so blurry i can barley make out the largest single letter on an eye test.

Also that eye is super sensitive to light, so I have to look down when outside as the sunlight makes me go blind and makes me sneeze.

Sunglasses for me are a must. Really sucked as a kid in school as they did not allow sunglasses and PE is a required class, so I had to look like the emo kid always looking down, and when I was forced to play sports like football, I couldnt see the ball when it was in the air to save my life.

I would love to see some 260 SLI scores as well :( id imagine they have to be pretty darn close especially with all the advancements people have made lately interms of drivers and turning off the 9400m in the bios etc.

they are higher than i'd like, i think i hit the limits on both my cpu and gpu anyways, as my cpu bsod's at anything higher than 3.06 and gpu drivers start to fail around 670|1030|1650 or higher. it's stable at 660|1025|1650 though

right now my max 3dmark06 score was around 15,969(this is due to not being able to go more on my cpu though), vantage max was 11,473 for gpu.

Have you thought about Lasik's in the eye? or is there something that is preventing that like serious astigmatism?

I have pretty bad vision myself, both eyes are the same... which is a blessing and a curse

So whats your temps for the GPU when under full load like a furmark full screen test.

I was able to hit like 87c max for the 4870's in the W90 with furmark and I consider that great, I dont even want a cooler for the unit.

using OCCT GPU test it hits around 90c but then the fans kick in and drop it to around 85c to 87c, it passes without errors though

would heat cause the vid driver to fail or is this more or less a voltage issue at that point?

No fixing it for me im afraid, basically what they call in lamans a "lazy eye"

My good eye is perfect though and too dominant for the bad eye to ever get better, the best I can do is just try to keep the bad one from getting worse.

I guess I can look like Kenpachi after all my old avatar, go sport the eye patch :D

Vid driver can fail due to unstable OC, heat can lead to instability. But that is well within safe operation temps for a gpu.

However if your on the border between a stable OC and a not so stable one, once it heats up that can be enough to push it over the line.

Also could be that your temp is only showing you core temp, another part of the card maybe getting much hotter, the voltage regulators or the ram.

If you want a cooling pad, you may also want to invest in some ICD24 and redo the thermal compound while your at it. I replaced the thermal pads in my cards with it as well as the stock TIM on the core.

I wont expect it to make a difference or just a very minor one, but having a cooler cant hurt. I really enjoyed mine previously just for the fact it kept my laptop off my work desk and tilted the laptop for me.

The W90 is so big though that I just got for $1.99 some legs that attach to the back of the laptop to tilt it up. Worked out much better than carring around a huge cooler that I didnt need. Plus the Cryo is the only only one really big enough for my laptop and that thing is expensive and pretty heavy.

    Whats that, the driver crash?

Yeah it can be a lot of things, and as far as heat limiting an OC, I really have not seen that since the Old P4 days.

Mostly desktops are the only thing that have this problem when you start overvolting for very high OC's, you need the cooling to keep the temp range down, but under 90c for a gpu is great temps under load.

well if more cooling doesn't make a difference i probably hit the limit with my m17x until better drivers are found that work and dellienware gives us a bios that will let the qx9300's live up to it's potential. Right now i'm kind of dissapointed in just a 3.06 overclock, i was expecting around 3.2 or 3.3.

as far as the driver crash it only happens with have the gpu clock set at 675, 670 is will run but i backed down to 660 to be safe.

Ok, so we got 75fps for the W840di with dual 3870s (but at 1920x1200), 81fps for the M17x with GTX 280Ms in SLi, and 78fps for the W90 (but at 4xAA). This is probably a game where ATi does better, but the numbers for the 3870s are impressive.

I decided to now go back to win 7 because the geek in me wanted to make it work now. :D. New stock benches coming soon with 186.18 correctly installed. then back to overclocking everything again.
