MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yea and at a pretty decent price as well... around 3400 total... So I have some leftover to buy a Novint Falcon! already have a sweet mouse

Edit: 10 min @ 80,76. I can hear the fans starting to fluctuate.
Edit: 15 min @ 81, 76.
Edit 3: Don't know why the graphs don't show 81. I'll also post HWmonitor.
Edit 4: Last note about this. My M17x is always elevated about 1" and about 12" from any wall. I'm getting a cryo tomorrow if anyone wants to see comparisons. -
seems the M17x is superior

At least the cooling
... Tally +1 M17x....

Yeah GPU cooling its winning for sure, CPU maybe not though.
I still have not got another W90 user to run the GPU test though, we need to confirm its something that happens in all units.
The fans are there, the vents are there, the air is moving. Not sure why its so hot, it must be something to do with the cards themselves making much larger than normal heat during that test.
Also I need to isolate if this is a OCCT issue, tomorrow night I will do like 5 loops of the Crysis bench and run HWmonitor to see what my max temp is. Crysis is a game we all know really pushes the GPU, if I see low temps in that test I wont feel bad and I will know everything is ok.
I can tell from the fan noise made during OCCT that my card never got that hot in gaming as it had a few levels triggered at differnt temps. -
My cooling is teh best @ 50mm rubber feet
And a half covered intake...ima take the back off my machine and see if that makes a difference as its like 1/3 of the fan intake is only uncovered lol. Stupid MSI
The m17x is doing nice for cooling, but the fans are fluctuating? Ive never had that before lol (well maybe on a defenctive 8600m gt ive heard that but never when being ramped through the roof as temps)
Unless its cooling so fast that when OCCT rams the usage up and down its picking them up, but nice
I think prehaps the 4870 has a bit of excess voltage? I wonder if the core is based of like AMD tech where the gamma range is a bit higher, so in theory the card should handle even the highest temp quite well.
Is there anything else running along the heat pipes of the GPU? like cpu and Northbridge especially, we may have to kill some of the heat bleed if this is the vase visc
And there are a few methods out there. -
I think i've hit my max with these drivers atleast for OC, i can't oc past 3.06 on cpu and gpu oc is currently stuck at 675|1035|1665 with a gpu score of 11.7k in vantage. Looks like i need a vbios flash to up voltage, not sure if i want to try it though just to gain a few extra points.

1.0v is the voltage, each gpu has its own heatpipe except the main card shares with the north bridge, but both cards were only a few degree's different in temps.
I'll do a huge crysis loop run tonight like 20 loops on the highest setting in DX10 and run HWmonitor that is a really good real life test. -
-
Aha, well i can tell you, the northbridge can apserlutely boil, and if its sharing a GPU heatpipe thats pretty nasty, the alienware is good because its all individual, but since both machines have serperate heatsinks, theres not much you guys can do to fluctuate the temps (unlike my machine)
If i can cool 1 component, the heat bleed is alot less and i can drop 10C of things, but even though, the GPU gets crazy hot.
I wonder if theres any way to cool the northbridge a bit. This is why i like MSI design hehe, 1 heatpipe for all components means you can ballance out cooling a system quite well
I need to collect some pictures of all the machines methinks, i hate googling each time i want to look at them lol.
The 4850 runs at 1.05 v but people say that its undertermined how much power the cards actually use under 100% full load, i would like to know this too because the asus is hotter then i'd expected (since the 4870 is so cool under 100% normal op)
The one thing that im really happy about is when the north bridge hits 90C the fan on the MSI, judging from the noise, RPM almost doubles, and temperatures do not go past that and slowly lower, kind of like a fail safe i would guess.
But i have noticed that even if the GPU elevates past 90C the fan doesnt kick into an even higher RPM, prehaps there is another stage yet unknown on the w90? -
ViciousXUSMC Master Viking NBR Reviewer
I dunno, somebody said something about there being an issue with OCCT and the 4850 so it may also exsist on this card.
Also the idea it did not throttle at all at that high of a temp is strange.
I have a W90 owner doing the tests for me later, and I will again try the real world testing tonight. -
I just think that they use alot more power than originally released.
But the thermal barrier on AMD tech is often very high and durable, but as you say it should throttle up, it doesnt throttle up to max stage on my machine either, it just sits at 90-92, only when northbridge hits 90C does it want to kick in to full power, but since i've undervolted, i've dropped 10C of everything, northbridge included, quite an important pipe.
I think real world testing will come back completely cool though to be honest, its just the power requirements for the 4870 and 50 are really high, im sure of it.
Im going to take the bottom case door off my machine though, just to see if the small vent it has restricts much air or not. -

i hit 91 and it downclocked i believe. i am going to try it stocked and see what happens. i would like to see if it happens with a 260m since they are the same thing as the 9800m gtx
-
Thats pretty hot don, how long did you run the test if i may ask?
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
15 minutes like everyone.
-
I suppose thats ok then, the card is performing well, my card is yet to downclock under this heating condition, i wouldnt mind that feature to be honest but it only kicks in if i am overclocking the GPU :/
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well in my bios. i saw it said when hitting xx degrees it will downclock or shut off.

yup it's picture h. -
Butterz how'd you get that slick config down to only $3400? That's insane
-
he didn't get the Quad from them and got the 7% off
-
I was going to order a Quad right away but i think id rather wait to get the system first to make sure everything is as it should be then i can start tinkering.

Yes my hands are tied at the moment and that may all change once i get it (im sure it will) but for the moment im cool . More then anything right now im just glad its in production and will be here sometime this year lol.
If i buy the CPU now lets say and you only have a 14 day window ? to test the CPU that would leave me with holding a CPU that could be DOA and would have me even angrier so ill have to ride it out for the moment.
I still may track down an OEM Qx9300 like i had in my W90 vs a QS even though i know there the same(technically) , i have seen them for as little as $500 and change so if i can spend an extra hundred and get one i may go that route instead.
Sorry for going so off topic and maybe i should delete all these posts.

don't worry if i had my way half the thread would be gone

Where (if any) are the FRAPS-type benchmarks? Don't care too much about the synthetic 3DMark stuff. Especially since PhysX bloats the scores so badly.
Maybe the author of the thread could consolidate the benchmarks all to the first post. -
-
All the 3dmark stuff is run without Physx on since its not official if it is on
.
Oh and Moo that is a good idea so get to Consolidating.

I have been on NBR for 24 hours straight ...next nap will be the one that lets me get work done
I swear tonight it will be updated -
I seem not able to get but about 100 pts behind him no matter what i try, but i have a few other ideas to try out but atleast i can say i hit 11k first in vantage -

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Alright you guys I just awoke this morning to my Qx9300 processor... I am pleased I finally recieved it, but I have to say I hate customs as when they retaped the packaging they did it half-heartedly and put tape on the top part of my CPU! granted not a big deal but I'm going to have to work it out with some acohol... anyway... here are some pictures I just took,
-
Yeah shirley's packaging isn't very classy, but it gets the job done. ArctiClean cleaner and polisher does the best job.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
-
that is ridiculous... the entire cpu should be preserved... not wrapped in freaking tape (exaggeration)... I hope my cpu wont come like this... How would you take it off and clean the cpu?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Ok no it came wrapped extensively in bubble with a styrofoam block hiding the CPU... Customs however replaced it horribly... I just used some alcohol, like medicinal alcohol lol not Jack's
-
i think i'm on to something, if it is stable i'm going to blow away the top 06 score, already only a few points away and i was actually only clocked at 2.93 instead of 3.06 that run and still scored 16290.
vantage will be ran too

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
feel free to share you idea

So your gaining ground by lowering the CPU freq?

Here's the most recent. LINK

I was playing crysis for like 45 mins. GPU/CPu and eveyrthing in hwmonitor 82 degrees. Acceptable? also my proc is overclocked a bit, only 3.15 GHZ right now.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
need a screen shot in hwmoniter and did you do they test i told you to do before???? i didn't see them.
-
82C is nominal temps but i thought the cooling in the AW was a bit better then that?
M17x Benchmarks thread !!!
