Lol. i hope so. yeah i have alot of stuff i have to get so i will have the gpu with no heatsinks/fans and sli cable(i may get the fan tomorrow). so i have to try not to look at the gpu or my money will go somewhere else.![]()
but i'm thinking if undervolting the cpu will lower performance at all?????? have you heard of this. i did it with my e8600 and i did drop 100 points on 3dmark06 on the cpu score but that's when i first got my unit so i didn't do any more test to see if that was causing it.

I have undervolted quite abit in the past and the most i found it caused was the system always felt abit more sluggish doing basic stuff . thats atleast how i felt though i know others it did not have the same effect.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
well i would think it would improve performance because of the fact that it's taking away extra volts(unneeded power) from the cpu making it run cooler and providing better performance.
but i had a t5450 1.5ghz and underclocked it to .950v and it did seem alot slower then when it was normal.
i'm trying to decide if buying cpugenie (after the quad) will be a good choice. since rmclock doesn't do .5x -
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do Not Flash Your 260
EDIT: it was a crazy adventure that worked
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
hummmm, anything below factory specs on the chip will cause it to blue screen and fail. and most laptops can't drop past factory. as long as you use the speed step, balanced mode and c1e.. it will stay cool. but undervolting and trying to over clock...not a good combo....

Moo the question is did you actually pick up the extra stream processors?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I believe that is a no, or he would be MUCH more excited at having just saved $400

Im here now... just got back good timing eh?
-
You are much quieter since you got the system. Any vids or benchmarks yet?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I ran vantage and 06... got 1400 on 06... and ~9000 on vantage for GPU.... this is all stock... sorry about my absence the arrival of my M17x was bitter sweet as my dad was diagnosed with diabeties yesterday as well
-
Sorry to hear that man.
-
Have you tried any OC'ing yet?
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
No I'm still using the standard drivers.. I am running Vantage for a screenshot right now so I can show you my temps and scores @ stock... I need you to tell me if my CPU temps look ok
-
10001 on Vantage for me and 13,400 something on 06 with this ****** CPU
. This was with the 190.38 drivers .
Im not going to go and start plastering pics of crappy
benchmarks but i figured i would chime in since Drake was asking .
This was with no OC on the GPU . 3.0ghz on the CPU 1333FSB/1066 on the ram. -

Here take a look I think my CPU Heat is a little on the high side

nah your fine Biscuits.
-
Your temps are well within normal range. Run OCCT against you proc for 20 minutes or so and watch the temps. If the program doesn't crash out on you you're fine then.

Due to this being the first time I've installed a CPU in a laptop (thanks for the guide, and moo your video
) I can't help but to think I did something wrong lol... I couldn't entirely remove the sticker off the bottom of the CPU as it was breaking apart and I was afraid of damaging the cpu and or getting oil on the pins
-
Sounds like Shirley used the wrong kind of sticker.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Also what do you guys make of this... is this just due to the fact I switched from a 8600 to my Qx9300?

yup your perfectly fine. just uninstall the core 2 duo ones and reboot. then it will install the qx9300 ones then reboot then your good to go.
-
Its a break apart sticker but totally should have been removed. if you use an exacto blade very carefully you can lift each corner as it breaks and get it all off . -
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yes that is done now... but no I did not remove the sticker entirely... I have to go back in don't I?
-
If it were me yes . that should not be on there period
.
I cant imagine your feeling good about it but once you get the system apart a couple times it will be a peace of cake.
I have taken mine apart 5 times already lol and now i can do it in my sleep . -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I don't know why there was a sticker, it made me frustrated as well... ahh I really don't want to go back in though... Guess I'll go do that now then...
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Crap... do you thnik it already melted?
-
Probably won't be melted yet as long as you haven't oc'ed it and ran any intense applications it should be fine. -
No i doubt it melted but should not be there . its paper so it shouldnt melt
.
-
You should be fine even when the sticker is on. That part is not touching anywhere and not doing anything. Since the sticker is not a conducter, you should be just fine. Do not screw up your CPU while fighting that thing. I had a T7600 with a sticker and those CPUs usually run extremely hot and even with the sticker, there weree no issues.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
One more quick question... I used ICD7 do I have to reapply my thermal paste... clean it all of with arctic clean and reapply?
Or as Alitunay said does it really matter? -
Yes always clean the CPU(re apply paste) after you remove it etc. As for Alitunay's suggestion you will have to decide on what path you think is best
. again i wouldnt leave it there harming anything or not, but others may feel it wont cause issue .
-
Sticker was not touching any of the pins right? It was just at the middle circuits? If so, I would leave it ike that and at least you will have something to blame once you see that your CPU does not overclock to 3.06. Or if it does, you can write up a guide about how to apply a sticker to the middle circuit ona mobile CPU to get better overclocks.
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
haha yes it was only in the middle of the circuits... and there is only a very very small piece left... about 1/3 of the total (middle section)
-
I did the 3Dmark06 without registering the product (free version) with stock settings (cant change a thing regarding resolution etc) and got 10067..
I have one 260m and a T9600...no overclocking at all regarding memory, CPU,GPU (i just dont know how and dont want to mess things up)
... is this a good score
setting that are stock in the 3DMark06
-1280 x 1024
-Anti Aliasing - none
Filtering - none
-3_0
-3_0
repeat teest - off
redoing to copy seperate cpu score etc.. forgot to write these down... got my 3dmark06 score though (see above)
EDIT:thanks moo... just wanted to check (and tell people my score) what others were getting... its very hard to read through all the chit chat, and actually getting the scores posted
EDIT2:like your new avata -
the score is fine since 3dmarks is reporting decent scores which means everything is working
-
Just got my M17x yesterday and am almost ready to start benching and OC'ing it. My rig basics are Q9000, 280 SLI, 1333 4gb ram, and Vista Ult. Played with Bios settings a bit already, but been looking for alternatives.
At this point in time, what is the general consensus for CPU and GPU OC'ing? I saw the list on the 1st page, but looking for the most recent input.
Oh, ya. Is my unit the only one that upon start or opening it the left fan turns on full blast for about 5secs then shuts down? -
CPU=Bios, GPU=Nvidia System tools 6.05. You can push the CPU further with the system tools also.
Now get to postin' those benches. -
The SLI cable was lost apparently from what the tech told me 3 times calling this morning lol.
He said ill have to wait till monday its looking likethe clock is ticking on my decisions to return for a replacement etc and my love for the machine is going to fade very fast if i cant get this sorted out ASAP. Blah.
-
Bad experiences tend to taint anyone's feelings towards any product. I'm sure by Monday it'll be fine but 2 more days to wait sucks.
-
Would not have been so bad if i had owned the machine for a month and this suddenly happened but having owned it a day or 2 and already problems leaves me very bummed.
The CPU thing was a hit or miss so i can live with that and will have Qx9300 coming soon.
The GPU thing though should not be happening but i also know stuff happpens and computers are not perfect .
Oh the tech was very Adamant about me not taking it apart lol. Said he breaks something then they will replace it for free but if i do its not covered.
Problem im having is im gonna have to re apply thermal paste to one of the GPUs because the SLI cable sits underneath the heatpipe so its going to have to be taken apart and i dont like to rush that . So i either just slap it all back together and wait for him to leave and then crack it all open again or tell him its going to take a few more minutes because i want it done right IE cleaning the heatsink and GPU completely then reapply. -
I should have a few things up later tonight. This is gonna sound lazy, but in the Bios I need to follow a formula if I remember correctly and I know Mandrake you had posted it before. Any chance I might convince you to put that up again?
Oh ya, base line with free 3d mark 06 was 8912. Think that might be a bit low with Sli 280s. Going re-check drivers before moving forward with oc'ing. -
bus x multiplier = cpu freq.
Your 3dmark06 score is low but that bench is more influenced by the CPU than Vantage is. -
With sli 280M and at minimum a 2.4ghz duo, you shouldn't be under 12k.
-
Yeah at 3.0ghz i was 13,400 something but i formatted last night and started fresh to see what i come up with today . The 190.38s are very nice drivers BTW probably not for benching but its awesome they have all the newest SLI profiles in there and when you add the EVGA sli profiler to that your good to go.
-
Thanks for the info, playing with Nvidia System Tool now, works great!
