    I am taking a break from benching/oc'ing

this stutter is driving me up a wall with frustration

some things we found on the whitebook that were supposed to help with it:
    newest chipset driver
    specific sound driver
    remove synaptic driver
set cpu min util. to 30%
changing pci-e freq (I tried this can't say if it actually worked - still had some stutter)

what are everyones thoughts on this? and Johnksss, do you think bumping the pci-e freq will result in better gpu OC stability or less stutter?

i don't know...if you can shoot a video of the stuttering your having during gaming. and show me your nv control panel settings and what hard drive your running. also you can run the game in dual core mod and they may stop the stuttering all together..just make sure you use cores 2/3 and not 0/1

    1: start the game
you maay need to alt-tab to get the game to minimize or switch
    2: open up task manager
    3: click processes
4: right click on your games exe file
    5: set affinity
    6: choose cpu 2 and 3 only
    7: click ok
then exit out of task manager...

    and continue running your game.

so this would essentially be running any games in a dual core environment, negating the quad core?

if I would have to do this every time I want to play, I may as well take out the quad core and put in the x9100

you we're tying it to see if it worked first.
not complaining about having to do it all the time and then state you should put your dual core back...rotflmao!

did you even try it first?

touche. My laptop was playing blu ray player for the big screen and I could not mess with it at the time.

However, I now have tried this and it still resulted in stutter :(

I ran 3DMark Vantage to test for stuttering. I opened vantage, set the affinity then ran the benchmark. So unless a new process is started for the actual benchmark this should have worked right? Anyways, I still experienced stutter. I will test with an actual game later tonight. Can't right now.

need to see a video of what your calling stutter. because them cards are still laptop cards and not desktop cards. and they are gonna stutter to a degree...but really need to either see it or check all your settings...

and vantage is gonna stutter reguardless..
give me a few of the spots it stutters at and ill let you know if desktops stutter there as well.

and did you set all your settings to quality or high quality settings and then try to run your game.

Haven't had a chance to run the game yet. Will probably be Halo 2 again (with all settings maxed since it is Halo 2....lol). This game was stuttering yesterday

It happens during Jane Nash where the dude turns into the tunnel on the jet ski at the beginning, I ended run there to save time, since stuttering had been confirmed. I will have to get back to you on a video as well. Probably will have it tuesday night, as I will have more time then and be back on FiOS and not this DSL out in the sticks in wyoming (ya im spoiled I know).

Here are screenies of my NST setting options since no one else has got them up yet

Unrelated, but I tried using Everest to verify GPU voltage and it failed to run citing something about an unsigned driver. Booting with windows ignoring driver signing did not resolve the issue.

    I don't own the m17x, but I am very curious about one thing;

Do you guys notice a significant difference between a non-OC qx9300 over a 3ghz+ qx9300? Obviously 3dmark06 will show a difference, but in real games?

run any game you like in windowed mode with task manager running right next to it. opened to the performance tab.
this will tell you what games are using how many cores and how much of each core as well....

< 90C Max temps are fine. 90<100 are "worrysome, >100 you need to do something as you're reaching max spec on the chips and will probably see some downclocking as a result (the chip trying to protect itself from permanent damage).
Bottom Line: You're temps are pretty awesome.

the highest temp i have seen on mine is 69 degrees on one of the gtx280s during running the benchmark06. of course i have the 9400 disabled. this could be more.

passive cooling (even without running fans) with cryo NZXT rocks, but even without it the story is similar.

here are my temps with qx9300 at 3.09 ghz under normal conditions (browsing etc) and without even passive cooling. i think that silver M1X has better cooling because the colour on the black one at least theoretically may cause a minor prevention of temps drop.

ummm the heat is blown out the back ... t may transfer to the aluminum but that is not its means of dispersion and the silver is anodized to

this is active cooling due to the fans. there is also passive due to aluminium.if there is a layer of colour then this should slightly interrupt colling. something like the thermal paste which must be clean from other materials. aluminium is a good conductor of heat and i believe this is the main reason alienware selected it except from the fact its solid.

I am having exactly same problem like yours, i have played codwaw and crysis and both stutter badly, i am thinking it could be my qx9300 cpu which i have upgraded to replace p8600. I have tried every single tips and tricks like reinstalling the driver, disabled the integrated gpu, the things u have done above etc, still could not remove the stutter. The only way i could remove stutter was by replacing my qx9300 to p8600. Have you tried using your x9100 cpu, if you have than i was wondering if the stutter was still there as i am very tempted to sell my qx9300 and replace it with x9100 if it solves the problem.

    it's a physx benchmark.
just curious as to how these 280's and 260's are handling physx or is it a slide show...

i have 3 295's and im trying to enable physx on the card without the water block to see if there is a difference...but can't seem to pick which card it runs on...dammn!

You mean ATI's response to Nvidia Physx ? if so that would be great but they probably should just unite under one common roof so the developers dont have to write stuff for both :( . Just makes it less likely to end up in games otherwise me thinks. I know Nvidia said anyone could license there physx stuff now and ATI could make it work on there GPUs but thats not likely given the competition and all.

Yeah i figured that would happen all along. so sadly the gamers in the end we will suffer because the developers will have to end up doing 2 times the work to have it in the game which in turn means they will just leave it out since it will add to dev costs and PC games are already having a tough time as it is .
