Well in the end the only thing the W90 needed was a Qx9300 to be the best and since the internet resellers wanted $1125.00 at the time for the OEM Qx9300 i came out like a bandit since i bought my OEM CPU for $515 back then . Not to mention they were doing the Warranty themselves since Asus never sold one with that CPU in it so in the end it was still cheaper as a do it yourselfer.
Only thing differentiating those models was the Blu ray really since they all came standard with 6gigs of ram .![]()

You are correct on that count.
Very few support 10.1. But, the few that do, are bloody amazing. Someone just has to give Stalker Clear Sky a run with ATi cards and DX10.1 smoothing. Runs like a beauty, and exudes an amazing lighting engine. Even slower ATi crossfire cards than the 8800m GTX in SLi can get this game to show its visual limits without being hamstrung by DX10 or MSAA.
But like you said, very few games do this, which is where the whole marketing issue comes in; gamers lose in the end. Nvidia is in control, and they do have the better software and driver support; just look at what was done to Assassin's Creed with its infamous 'update'. -
Yeah you gotta love how Nvidia strong armed Ubisoft into removing DX10.1 support
.. In the end were losing no matter what here . we pay through the nose for our hardware and thats an understatement , the Developers dont even want to make games for our platform much any more since its all about consoles these days or when they do make a game we get no proper support , download content ,patches etc and are treated like criminals with activations and copy protections . Mean while we have the best hardware on the planet with only a handful of games to show off on it like Crysis which has now grown very long in the tooth and is also headed to consoles .

That's all that matters with developers anymore

missing the point quad..
people we're bragging about spending 2200 bucks. (bang for buck) (out the door price for what they got) when you go adding to it..it's no longer the best bang for buck bought out of the store, so to speak....
i understand what your saying and it's almost the exact same way i would have went when buying one of them...but in my case..i would hunt for a bare bones since i have most of the other stuff. and would save a few dollars in the process.
they dont want to make games for pc because they are losing far to much money for the time spent in making it. they make the game and bring it out and then it's on bittorrent for all to download. same thing with music. no one will ever top any of the prior artist records for sales, because of the internet. they can still do console games, just not sure how many you can hack and still play online with.
this stuff is a far bit more in depth but you guys understand the bigger picture. -
Yeah i know what your saying but i know what i always had in mind right from the get go
.
Also if they had a barebones of that machine i would have bought it in a second but sadly the closest to it was the Newegg version and the resellers all got there machines awhile after . -

of course I had to try to beat you mandrake, why be content with the 2nd best score....haha

Lol very bad yet funny movie
.

im already knowing quad.
.... bare bones is the best way to go for a tinker like me. if they had that...i would have grabbed a w90. tested it and then got rid of it and grabbed the m17x for testing....i like trying to find the max with what we are given to work with..

Off topic:
Good points on the development issue.
Just a note to add:
Actually, consoles have had piracy far longer than what some people know, and what others acknowledge.
I always bring up the point that there is no official 'piracy union' that releases figures to the mainstream. I mean, this is essentially the underground, and so the statistics we rely on are even more sketchy. Just an example: In Asia and the far-east, PSone and PS2 sold in many regions for the sole benefit for piracy and access to pirated games. There was no regulation board or secret watch-dog organisation that knew of the exact numbers, but these numbers were massive, and probably even pushed the basic sales of PS2 and PSone units, worldwide. Mind you, this is well before the even easier-era of bittorrent where people could access stats from the torrent trackers.
Not to mention, even the XBOX 360 can be easily modded now and people can download the softwre. This only leaves the PS3 in the safe-zone, and its titles aren't selling that much better than the XBOX 360 - contrary, infact.
I think console games do well in sales for another reason as well, aside from piracy, and that's been the reason why PSone and PS2 were such behemoths of their time: Easy and cheap. PC gaming will always be a somewhat niche market, and this isn't the first time when it has been deemed 'dead' or on its deathbed by the mainstream.
Just to ponder: Why spend even a thousand dollars/pounds on a computer, which will require more in-depth repairs and maintaining, when you can get a problem-free 'plug'n'play' console doing almost the exact same thing, perhaps at a slightly lower resolution? It isn't just piracy, it's also about ease of use and access. It's the cheap hassle-free alternative, and that's why its appeal has been growing exponentially since the 5th generation. -
I'm not quite following what you said. Are you saying that 99% of games will be made to use Physx? Because that would be a gross over estimation. The Physx Game List isn't all that long and it really hasn't been embraced all that vigorously by game developers.
The biggest benefit to Physx isn't how easy it is to program for but that it is run by the typically faster GPU hardware instead of the CPU. When physics aren't run through a GPU Physx is no better or worse than Havoc or a proprietary physics engine. For example, on consoles that support Physx through software and run it through the machines processor you lose it's best benefit. If a game isn't playing any better with Physx on the console, and there are plans to port the game to a PC, which may not use an Nvidia card, then there's really nothing to gain in using Physx.
That's basically the same reason cited for DX10 not getting picked up more. What benefit is it for game devs to adopt a neutered DX10 that wasn't as much of an improvement over DX9 as it was supposed to be when they can write for consoles and port those same DX9 games over to PCs.
Physx is a nice feature but it's not going to win any wars for Nvidia. -
your sig says "vantage GPU 12000" does that mean you scored 12,000 on 3DMark Vantage with an M17x? I'm confused.
-
This was my best Run with PhysiX. I test it without PhysiX. I wait for my SSD. (Today or Tomorrow.)
-
Yes, more specifically my gpu score was 12K. Click on the link and you will see the whole score. I never created a link to my 12K overall score.
Edit: OK now I added it. -
i never run the CPU tests so i never get an overall score
might have to start doing that when we get our new bios -
That assumes I'm first.
-
I can only count to one
btw i am still #1 for 260 right ? -

nope. that's not what i said. this is what i said.
also, if they dont market the new games with openCL then ati users will have to use an nvidia card for physics. ( which about 99 percent will not be doing)
and my convos on this is purely entertainment. don't really care one way or the other how they go with it. im just going to go with what's going at the time. talking about the same thing every day isn't going to change anything. sooner or later, things will change...for better or worse...only time will tell...

Hey I remember you to..... Lol
I have been very busy.. School is killing me.. I was in some threads though.... The lastest one got close because some one said something to me and moo and it was bad
But i'm back. I'm at work in the back dropping a line before they catch me lol. I'll be on more often though.
@ john
I feel like a king right now.
I could catch you on vantage though. You have 5800 and I have 5535 but I didn't keep pushing it cause of stuff... -
records are made to be broken my friend! so all in good time
and it was when i ran in dual core mode..that's where you beat me i think. -
that's where this part came in at...
this stuff is a far bit more in depth but you guys understand the bigger picture.
and thanks for the explanations! cause i sure wasn't going to go any further in depth on it.

I'm just happy to have beaten that, barely, but it's in the sig

Mandrake, anyone who gives a dam about benchmarking will own Vantage and be submitting results into ORB. And on ORB you are first I am second
And I got my score using 186.24 for those wondering. Couldnt get 186.61 working on Windows 7 and didn't want to bother modding 190.xx series yet -
Are you still over-volting??
-
you should be quite a bit more than that greek....
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Yes. My GPU clocks for benchmarks are 690/1725/1080 with 1.07V. But for non benching (regular use and games) I go back to stock everything
Ran Vantage ALOT yesterday with 12081 being my best overall, I will do some more tonight then that is that for that GPU voltage. Got to play it safe afterall. Everest refuses to run so I have no way to verify if the GPU voltage changes are taking effect, but the temps never got over 65 on either GPU after multiple runs of Vantage
Open to any tips! (just want to get 31 more points out of it haha
)
-
Did you already try running Everest as Administrator? I found when using Win 7 the whole dual token security architecture was more apparent.
-
Did my first bit of OC'ing.
I tried 11.5 but it BSOD when windows loaded.
Tried 11.0, seemed okay. Ran OCCT for 15 minutes on medium data.
The CPU's peaked at 73-78, then settled to about 70-74, then dropped immediately to 50ish on idle, finishing about 46.
GPU peaked at 86, then settled 83-85, then dropped to 65 on idle.
Do these sound okay? Safe levels?
Thanks. -
yup.

you can turn that admin stuff off....
1821 beta version works pretty dammn good as well. -
I know editing the local policy can do it.

guys which driver can i use to enable sli on GTAIV ?
-
Cheers!
I'm going to settle for that. With just a litle bit of tweaking, a driver change and a BIOS update I have improved gaming performance by 45%. Monster!!
Considering I wasn't all that pleased when I first got this machine I am now pretty exstatic about the whole thing.
Now, noob mode. What does
mean? -
it's right there in user accounts settings
or when you run a program and it ask you to click ok...it's right there as well.
your way seems the lengthy route... -
I don't think we are thinking of the same thing. I know you can turn UAC off in account settings.
-
is that what you need to do when running 64 bit? edit the local policy.
yeah, i didn't have to do that when i ran 64 bit. -
Basically this forum requires 10 character posts or greater. When you post a reply that is under that, you get an error. so to get around that, people will enter down a few and type in 10 char so the post will see 10+ characters and accept the post

My 280M is far too sad of an overclocker to do any better, honestly. I can't even run at 650 core anymore in 3dmark06
If I could get as high as 700/1750/1050, I'd be well into 14k, 15k if I could use setFSB haha -
i cant upload to orb, its not my vantage acct its a friends
my 280's stable at 680/1050/1700 no higher tho
-
Does that cost 5 times as much in the UK too? -
nah im just cheap

Hi
I'm running the 186.12 drivers, basic Win 7 64 bit install and I have a Q9000 with 4GB of ram and dual 260m 1GB. Running in SLI I get the following from 3DVantage 1.01:
P6353, GPU6136. (running High setting benchmark)
Can't really tell if this is good or not as I had issues and had to do a clean re-install. Also the fan on one of my GPUs is rattling so suspect I'm going to need to send the laptop back anyway :-(
No overclocking either, tried installing ntune but it wasn't happy when I tried to run it.
Anyone got scores for similar setups? Tried searching the thread but no joy.
