Well I take it back from above, AW/Dell have realised how much extra the M17x would cost them; so are meant to be issuing me a full refund. A shame I wont get the 4870s but I'll live :)
Only downside is theres no compensation for how much they messed me around, but at least I'll have my money back!

You can still order yourself an M17x. They are well worth it

Not in the UK they're not. The price difference is in the order of over $1000, our M17x base price without upgrades is a little shy of $3000, before I even add GPU upgrades etc.

Why didnt the uk join the euro instead of sticking with ponds or pounds. We all would benefit from that. the euro vs dollar would be much better then now

Haha, yeah, its not the currency rate causing us problems 3vil, its people taking the mick on profit margins etc, we do have extra taxes etc, but they in no way make up what AW charges extra here.

@Scook, honestly I would have loved 4870ms but I just cant justify that much cash to AW.

Ya I can't blame you on that call. I personally am going to wait it out for GT300 mobile cards though just because it is looking like all nvidia parts play together much better than mixing ATI/Nvidia (see the thread about ATI CF and raid haha)

ik know US is in bad shape but the difference it would make for us would be even bigger. you wouldnt lose a thing unless you visit europe. They would have to drop prices or people would go straight to US for import...i think lol. Im not trying to be a smart guy here just something crossed my mind when i read the post haha. moments like thst happen rarely so gotta share it when it happens lol

Since I never posted it up for all to see, here is the HDTune result for my WD3200BEKT drives in RAID 0
    [IMG]

And the result of the single Corsair x128 SSD :D
    [IMG]

    And after some OS tweaks:

And Corsair says only about 240 MB/s :)

I preferred the single SSD over RAID HDDs because the RAID seemed unstable to me. And the less parts the better in my mind - less parts to fail.

You can use 90000^10*pi.999 hdds in raid 0 and one SSD will still better, raid make access time even bigger and it's the biggest problem in HD's :p

Was 14.4ms wasnt it? Thats not that high at all, your average HDD is usually 12-18ms so 14.4 was fine. Shame raid didnt like you, seemed fine on my m17 :)

Very low latency and IO per sec are the key improvements with SSD, much more than read speeds. Im just waiting on prices/capacity, SSD cost $$$$ here.

I noticed something tonight that has just started over the past several days, wonder if it has anything to do with my low bench scores. Check out the pic and let me know what you think.

I think someone had a post similar to mine, but I was unable to find it.

Those temps are cool. I wouldn't worry until you get close to or above 90C.

I have known that those temps are ok, but there used to be near uniformity among the temps. Basically, each line of temps was within 2 degrees of one another.

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing the same pattern with their own M17x's.

The temps between the cores should be similar. Why would you think this is causing an issue?

Thought the temps might be an issue because whenever I would reach a graphic intensive part of any program things would start to chug along after a while. Even WoW has caused multiple driver failures at stock settings(gpu and cpu), but luckily it comes and goes.

Since the temps were already high on 1 of the three reads for each core and gpu, I assumed as the overall temps increased and the high temps continued to increase, a down clock would occur.

I cleaned the fans and internals again, pulling out all the dog hair and dander that had collected since last week. I have an Akita and his is still shedding his summer coat. After cleaning, the temps have evened out a bit, and I am now testing high air flow cloth for a filter.

When overclocking the GPUs the temps rise faster, but as for games, no change in fps.

Yeah but maybe we should start a fresh one, we cant expect Moo to do everything around here so it might be a good idea that somebody else starts a new thread and keeps it clean and updated. Maybe add a top ten score on the first page and so on. Im a little new to this but if nobody else is up for the task i would be more ten happy to do it. and if they have questions about how to do their drivers and bla bla bla they can still come here. another way to keep the new one clean (i now, wishfull thinking but if you pm badboy on helping out its possible)

Yes the problem is the random chatter. (like we are doing now, lol) We can't control that and then the thread gets thrown into the side topics where technical threads go to die. Maybe a mod can assist.

If you plan on doing it just keep it updated and be prepared to run a lot of benchmarks yourself. I know when my system comes in and don get his we will start flooding the thread. ;)

I know but here is my idea.

Title that clearly says benchmark results thread, read first page before posting!!!!
on the front page explain what can be posted and what not + put link to Moo's thread for questions about how to benchmark.
a top 20 results of vantage scores.
and show the best nvidia and ATI result for comparison.

Then pm batboy and chaz for there help.

    that's how far ive gotten,

I think it is the Nvidia chipset that causes wee wei memory scores. Did you have 9400m enabled with 280m's in BIOS when you ran it?

The Nvidia chipset steals memory bandwidth, I think it is recommended to get more, I cant turn off the 9400m on mine and have never got more than 5.9 for memory score. My next upgrade will be 6 or 8gb memory. Been waiting for the prices to come down, Newegg has an 8gb kit for around $400 but it sells out quickly everytime they get it in stock.

I dont really need 8 though. Maybe if someone makes a low latency 1333 kit for cheap haha (meaning pretty much never)
