I have gotten frustrated with overclocking for now and am playing with getting the highest score I can at stock clocks.
What is the record for a stock M17x right now? This should be the best practice for software tweaking as well haha - which will carry over to overclocked results

So you are talking OS tweaks? New memory? driver versions? SSD? that sort of stuff? What will you use to bench it?
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
still just using vantage haha
Working on OS and driver tweaks. Still the Kingston ram, SSD on the way but should not effect vantage scores much -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
I'll challenge you with stock when I get it.
-
@scook: Are you going to post any results?
@don: that would be so easy to cheat in.
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
What you mean.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
anything goes as long as GPU and CPU clocks are all stock
You are on!
and of course I will post results! (at P10302 right now) -
can't prove the the gpu and cpu clocks. too easy to fake.
-
Can some one tell me at this moment (i have ben away for some time) the best drivers for 3dmark 2006? and vantage? bguards...
Madrake give me a help (you'r the PRO
)
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
@ Moo ------- You should do a benchmark thread (noob edition) as well with some nice tricks to get good results and some do's and dont's. Thx in advance
-
Still using the old Dox 182.46 drivers.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
oh and Don (and anyone else up for some small competition)
Lets keep Vantage at its full default settings aside from PPU Disabled
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Ok folks, need some help here. This is driving me crazy....
I seem to have the stutter under control (have been running Vantage all day and haven't had any - stock clocks but they used to stutter too) but my OC's are both not as high as they used to be fine with
My CPU wont pass 1 hour OCCT anymore at 3180 MHz with either the Kingston OR G.Skill ram, nothing else has changed. Would like to get this back...
And my GPU's cant finish any runs now at 680 core when they used to be like 95% fine here, will take any suggestions on how to get these going again. I have not played around with the PCI-e clock on this laptop yet but am HEAVILY considering it.
As you all know, Mandrake dethroned my score so I can not just sit here
. Even with a lower CPU speed I am going to put up as much of a fight as I can. I would like to at least see P12300
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Mine also isnt going as high as i first started with. @ beginning i could take 3.7 before bsod, now i cant even get it fully stable @ 3.5 almost but not perfect
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I was 1000% rock solid at 3180 MHz before...for about a whole month with 0 BSODs
I switched ram and hdd for a bit but put both back to what they were before, and can't OC that high anymore
If I am going to catch Mandrakes score I need every MHz I can get lol (it is my chance to be the best score with 280m's since he sold his! haha) -
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Haha could it be the bios 02 failing on us?
Anyone else interested in doing a benchmark thread noob edition. dondadah, mandrake, scook, .... somebody -
I may do one with the ATi cards since it will be different than the Nvidia cards.
-
Gotta order a few Qx9300s to play around with till you find one that is happy at those speeds
. i know i would love to do that but i still have some sanity to know that is just not realistic to obtain the best scores .
-
revert bios and cards back to stock and start over.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Im not even trying @ the moment to get a better running system, almost windows 7 time so everything i do will be lost
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
scook
no problem. you have some ways to set some records right now before i get it.
also try to reflash your bios. don't ask why just do it.
evil
what would you like to know about benchmarking???
what kind of advice would you like. or is it overclocking you are looking in to.
quad
that is alot of ordering to find the best cpu.
mandrake
i wouldn't cheat. that isn't cool. but i don't know about other people. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I will do a bios reflash, fingers crossed. That would not account for the GPUs though would it.....
And my lonely CPU will have to suffice, I am not in any situation to be ordering multiple $500 chips to find a "lucky" one -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
me either but maybe we can get everyone on nbr to shell out something and order it.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Not likely don haha
-
I said it in a joking manner of course about the multiple CPUs
...
In the desktop world its all different for the most part because theres so many things to tinker with like Voltage, Cooling etc to get the desired results ..
Laptops to some extent its a do or die thing like my Qx9300 which wont budge past 2.93 no matter the FSB/RAM etc. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
i saw in the clevo forum the np9850 had some voltage setting in there bios. of course that was a beta bios and it may or may not be released to the public.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
they will be happy to take anything at this point wont they? lol
-
Just finished a full driver sweep. Decided to run benches again to set another base after the new install. Guess this might be nice for anyone just joining us.
Did a driver sweep due to the fans failing completely. Was a bit frightened when I first saw my temps reach above 80c. The fans are back to working properly now and temps are no higher than 70c. Good luck to everyone else working through any issues.Attached Files:

I would like to know how to start, all i know @ the moment is i have to turn off physics and to turn off as much processes as possible, my cpu is OC'D so im good there. I don't think i want to OC my GPU.
I just dont know if i have to install certain things or that i can change some settings although i did see a post from mandrake somewhere explaining what to do in the nvidia config but that was just a quik explanation i think. -
Hmm...why does it show your GPU's as 180M's? Is that just a software glitch?
-
Yes look at the link to my Vantage score, it says the same thing. Futuremark needs to upgrade their info.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
all the GTX 280m's show as GTX 180's and all the gTX 260m's show as GTX 170's
It is futuremark screwing up. They Show up as GTX 280m's if it is a private result haha, then switch when you make it public -
The ATi info should be up to date.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
ya ATI cards don't have any odd alias in the FM database

I did a hd tune test. Results:
My vantage score dropped massively???

Looks about right for physx off.
-
the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
Ok thx good to know, lets see how we can improve this
-
Speaking of Futuremark, do they "approve" of any mobile drivers for the 200m series?
-
is it bad when im running average 50 fps playing DOW II, Should i turn the settings down, i have everything running top speed, it might also be why my computer freezes! Would over clocking help this?
-
i just overclocked now stress tested and it went well on the highest amount of data, and my computer froze and then i couldn't get back into my profile so i had to delete and make a new profile on vista!!!! frustrating!
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
well I got 240 MB/s read speed on my x128
So that is happy now
While I had the RAID 0 WD3200BEKT's they got 150 MB/s. So an awesome improvement if I do say so
some eye candy
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
how would you compare it to your hdd. ssd's sounds nice from what i am hearing. but i don't know about the reliability of it.
-
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
The raid 0 hdd's were 150 MB/s. This is a single SSD
So far it is reliable...but it has been 1 day lol. Needless to say my 250GB HDD is still my functional drive with the SSD being another Win 7 Pro x64 install. Going to play with vantage on it now
-
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
ok ok. that's true. i'm just worried about how reliable it is. just let me know what's up with it. as the days/weeks go by.

Ya, I noticed that price difference today when I was reading some news from your side of the Atlantic. Too bad about your problems with AW, hope your luck turns around.
-
@Alex: at least you're getting a great system for all the headaches. Could be worse.
Mine continues to be in pre-production limbo. Doesn't seem like Dell was ready for the ATi launch. -
I read someplace that if an ssd does indeed 'fail' that you can no longer write to that bad block while other blocks will be unaffected. Which means the writable size of your drive will shrink overall, but it is still usable. And the information stored on the failed block is still readable, you just can't write data to it anymore. Thats not counting shoving a screwdriver through it, but typical failing
My buddy has one and it is creepy kinda quiet.
M17x Benchmarks thread !!!
