Hmm real shame guys, although im an ATI supporter, i also probably would have roled with nvidia on this machine, the boards designed for it, and the performance will really not be so visible, plus playing at 1080p on a screen of that size will not demand AA (In my opinion.)
I'd have 4850's over the 4870s thoughMSI's single had like a qx and flash overclocked 4850 to 14k in 3dmark which i thought was pretty good, cant get any vantage scores though because the other site i got the benchmarks from is down.

I need to find somewhere else to put them, the webspace I was borrowing didn't take kindly to my using them for image leeching.
-
Why not use Imageshack?
-
I ended up selling my M17x. lol
I feel for all you guys that paid a premium for older tech.
My disappointment level is sky high right now and I didn't even order one. The mobility 5800's need to come quick!! -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I'm hitting 14K+ on 3DMARK06 and 10.5Ks on my config in my Sig. Cant wait till i throw my QX9300 tommorrow.
-
Yeah, I'm content. Just very disappointed. At the very least, I want a credit for the difference, since they aren't GDDR5... but I'd still like them to dig some GDDR5 cards up and give me two
-
So you sold to buy the system with the ATi cards but now with this news your sticking with your Adamo?
-
Those are very nice scores... I guess I'm going ATI with mine
-
Downloading Vantage now to do a run on my M17 to compare, but I've gone over 14k on 3DMark06 (probably mostly due to my processor).
-
Talk about trying to change the subject on you. If AW was launching a new system next month we would have heard clues about it. I don't know where that CSR got their info from but you know it's BS.
-
Does anyone have a comparison of benchmarks with an gtx sli 280....With the exact specifications side by side. This would really help my anxiety! LOL
Maybe we should have a benchmark comparison thread of the two? -
Is there an option for ATi Overdrive in Catalyst Control Center?
-
Yeah, it would be interesting to not only show the total score, but the individual scores for SM 2.0 and SM 3.0...
-
Just wanted to let everyone know:
So, I went to a friend's house last night who also has a M17x, with the 280s SLi (actually, his laptop inspired me to get mine). My performace is wayyyy better, even though my ATis are GDDR3.
I'm actually having a blast with these cards haha. But, still, I am getting the $100 back from Dell (or the actual GDDR5 cards). -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
stock 3dmark vantage for the 3870x2 is 6400 for the gpu
-
That's all I really needed to hear
Thanks a lot, man!
Now I'm definitely going ATI (again
)
-
Yeah in game performance will be better then the Nvidia cards no doubt.. My W90 was getting much better framerates then the M17x.. Synthetic benchmarks will be very similar though.. Just having DX10.1 support is reason enough by itself to get the ATI cards IMHO... -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
With my basic spec, i think it does pretty well. I will bench some more tommorrow when i get the QX9300. -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I'll post those scores when i get home. -
Maybe you missed it..... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=424518
-
Thanks a lot
-
Yep.
I actually built up the courage to sell my baby and BAM this crappy news about the GDDR3 pops up.
Looks like I'm all Adamo, all the time for now
Hey, it could be MUCH worse because the Adamo is a sweet little system.
Guess I'll wait for the mobility 5800's..... -
We haven't even seen the true 4870s yet. 5800s will be out sometime 2012.
-
Yeah, something tells me that we won't see any GDDR5 modules in notebooks anytime soon. Why? I don't know. Even the GTS 250M in the MSI GT640 and GT740 are supposed to have GDDR5, but MSI is reporting GDDR3. Then again, MSI underreported the VRAM for the GT725 too.
And the funny thing is that they fixed the downclocking issue with GDDR5 on the desktop 5800 series cards, which was the main reason why GDDR5 wasn't seen in notebooks earlier. -
The Toshiba Qosimo has a GTS 250m GDDR5 in it.
-
If I have to wait a year, so be it
I'd rather wait until 32nm i7's are out anyways
Oh, and I just bought a sweet U2410 H-IPS for my desktop!
-
Alexrose1uk Music, Media, Game
Haha, 24" IPS/VA is certainly rather nice to play around with. Can't stand TN screens in comparison
-
I've been looking at that IPS screen but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
-
Got it for $500 shipped. It is really the best display I have ever used at home.
If you want to know anything about it just let me know
-
I want to know if this is ATI screwing Dell and then the customers or its just Dell to the customers? Its hard to believe with Dell having a load of techs and engineers running in the back purchasing a ton of these chips not knowing if they were gddr5 when it is the main highlight of these new cards. Heck, they even advertise them as a main selling point. Something is just not right and I just don't trust Dell at this point until this is resolved. You guys remember the debacle in the past about the t2300-t2300e processors with Dell.
http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/15/dell-facing-slew-of-chinese-lawsuits-over-cpu-switcheroo/ -
ATi doesn't make the mobile cards. An ODM does like foxconn for example.
All ATi does is supply the chips. -
Mandrake, I really feel sad for you because you ordered a new M17X which will be slower than your first All Powerful.
I guess that top score of yours won't be beat by the 4870's. -
How can you be so sure the 4870's Crossfire can't beat the 280mSLI?
Some people here in this same thread already reported 4870's performance is better -
Are you confident in that statement?
-
wow between the dual bulb screen and this ddr5/3 fiasco, dell is digging themselves in a hole
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
We have to wait and see. I'm on the phone with Tech right now, and he stands firm that they are GDDR5. He is doing some diagnosis right now remotely on my m17x and said that it will be awhile. So I told him, i'll wait. -
Well, unless he manages to remotely (and magically) exchange your GDDR3 memory chips for GDDR5 ones, he won't be able to do much but confirm that they are indeed GDDR3
-
>.> I don't get why there is so much confusion about this...simply running some high resolution comparisons would easily make the extra bandwidth if its there apparent.
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Yes, thats my point. This support will tell me if they sent the wrong GPU, because he said that it's suppose to be GDDR5. -
yeah i just bought one and got and extremely good deal on it (the customization that i got its about 3000 from dell.com) but it only includes one 260m so im thinking of selling is as i dont need a lot of the customizations on the computer and buy one with dual graphics, i was gonna get the 4870 but now i dont know if i should just go for the dual 280m. Im new to the gaming laptop world so any help is greatly appreciated
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
you wont believe what mandrake can do in this case is not the hardware is the person
-
No, I am not...
I just wrote this because we all expected something much better than the SLI 280M but it looks like even if performance will be better that it won't be that much better.
I guess we are all counting on you to prove me wrong. I need to know fast because I am thinking about getting the 4870 if they bring a huge advantage... -
the 4870's beat the 280's already
they wont be alot faster but they will be faster. I mean come on people ..... -
The Moo, I usually listen to what you have to say but right now the fact is we have no benchmark and no solid proof they are really faster...
-
Don't forget about the nVidia chipset that these cards need to play nice with.
-
I know but based on the little info we have gotten from the less then stellar members the scaleing isn't bad
-
True and agreed but until let's be honest to ourselves and say that until the best of you can beat it then they are not beat...
-
they are beaten already
look around ichime got 7.1 k in vantage with a single 4850 DDR3 ... thats nvidias benchmark so you cant claim foul.
the 280 hasn't hit 7k yet .... hell the highest i got with my 260 was 6.4k -
Ok so why does notebookcheck.com puts them behind the 280? Of course at the time they were testing the DDR3 version but still.
-
because notebook check is ridiculous we have been saying it for ehhh ..... a long time
go ahead keep trying to justify Nvidia , fact of the matter is your architecture is still way to old
