M17x Purchasers- has ANYONE's order gone past phase 4?

What parts are on Backorder. When they start Selling the 8800gtx I will be ordering them.

 

The thing is, they've been shipping the M15x's with 8800GTX's since early April, and now more than ever, so I don't think the 8800 is the issue here.

 

Just added to Alienware's list of back ordered items:

I hope mine won't be included in a TWENTY EIGHT DAY wait time!! I have college to attend!!!


EDIT- Apparently that is what is holding up everyone's order, since they changed the estimated ship time on an M17x which does NOT have the illuminated keyboard to only 7 days. So I guess that's where my July 22 estimated ship date comes from, since the chassis are on back order. I may end up changing to a non-illuminated keyboard.

I really empathize with you guys.

I also ordered the m17x on 5/3/08, but I smelled the smoke around early June when my ship date was pushed back twice, and so I dropped that m17x order like a bad habit. Ordered the Sager NP9262 instead (and received it the same week ) and could not be happier. I've been playing Crysis at all high settings, with frames like butter, for 2 weeks now.

To all of you who got burned by the m17x (as I did), I highly recommend you take a look at the Sager. It ships within 5 days, and is more powerful and cheaper.

 

how long did it take you to get a refund from alienware?

 

My order was at Phase 3 when I canceled it, so no work had begun on the laptop. The cancellation was more or less painless and I had my refund back in my account within 48 hours.

I'm going to be canceling my order today and I'm going to buy a Sager NP9262. It doesn't quite have that flashy-ness of the alienware but ****, for $600 less and virtually the same- if not better- components.... I'm all for Sager.

The Dell XPS M1730 looks awesome too.

 

Just spoke to Alienware CS, had my order canceled once and for all. Should have my money back soon since my order wasn't in production. Thank you Trias for telling me about the Sager NP9262, I will be buying one.

 

But alienware is all about the flashiness. you won't be uber anymore if you make this choice. You want to really give up your 'l33t' status?

 

At this point- just give me the awesome components on the inside, who cares how it looks on the outside. And for $600 less, hell, I don't care if it looks like it was just run over by a car, as long as it games perfectly.

Now it's just a matter of waiting (impatiently waiting, that is ) until my bank account is credited back my stupid $4700. I better not get screwed over ahhaha

 

So we got the m1730, NP9262. Any other competitors?

Skidude, you made a good choice.

The NP9262 uses a desktop LGA775 processor, not a mobile Centrino, so it runs faster than the m17x.

I highly recommend you order your NP9262 from www.xoticpc.com

I ordered from there and got it within 5 business days (ordered on thursday, received the next wednesday). They also have amazing customer service and their tech support number is a direct number where there are no phone menus, an American tech picks up the phone directly (24/7, lifetime tech support). Bebarhood: I already canceled my m17x order a long time ago and got the NP9262. It's really awesome and I'm very satisfied with it's performance. I like it much better than the m1730 (which my friend has).

I just got off the phone with CS at Alienware and although I too am now cued for a 30 day wait on the display I am also impressed with the service. I am not going to go into details as to what AW is offering me to keep me interested in waiting 30 (more) days but I will remind anyone considering waiting to give AW a call and talk to a real live person regarding the delay.

Be civilized, be polite. Tell them why you are disappointed and ask what they have done for other customers to keep them happy while waiting. It's in their best interest to keep you happy and it's in your best interest to at least call before you cancel and see if they can make it worth your while.

Be sure to note the name of who you talk to so if you have to call back you can ask for them directly.

Call before you cancel... You might be glad you did.

 

The only way they could keep me through a 30 day wait time is if they docked like $1000 off my order. Which would never happen.

Too late Alienware, lost a potential $4700 customer.

 

I might be the next one canceling, I don't think I am going to wait 28 more days for the light-up keyboard...

 

My order just went into Phase 5 got the email today

That's really strange. I don't get Alienware. How do they deal with their stocks?

 

Cancelled my m17x order today, getting a SAGER instead. Apparently I would have had to continue waiting for the 'backordered' chasis, estimated arrival date July 20th (that just killed it).


Cheaper and the customer service feels a lot more responsive (they email me back within 15 mins, awesome). GL everyone else.

 

Well after ordering on Apr 29 and waiting 58 days my order has finally gone from phase 2 to phase 5. My ship date is supposed to be this friday (Jun 27) so we will see how they do with the latest "promise". (and yes I ordered lighted keyboard too)

Jun 26 update: its now in Phase 7 so we'll see

I ordered my m17x on 6/26/03. I received a confirmation email today saying that my scheduled ship date of 7/31/08 is still in effect.
I'm seriously hoping that the delivery times will start accelerating...
BUT, I'll expect the worst and hope for the best.

 

this is just like what happened with the m15x. alot of orders got delayed. i think it will take a few months for the supply to be able to meet with the demand. im still wondering if those people who ordered the m17x from gamers day got it in 1 week as promised.

I spoke with Alienware this morning and I would say it's still in effect. I just "re-ordered" my m17x about an hour ago because they are way backordered on the illuminated keyboards. I originally ordered it around June 1st, and they told me this morning that because of the illuminated keyboard I would be lucky to have a ship date of July 24th!

I asked what could be done about that. Five minutes later, my order was resubmitted with all the same specs minus the illuminated keyboard. It will ship middle or end of next week. The lights will work everywhere else and be customizable, just not the keyboard. I'll be doing a lot of writing, and figured the keyboard would drive me batty after a while anyway.

So, same specs, minus the illuminated keyboard, and I'll have my m17x in 10-13 days instead of possibly another month or two.

... sweeeeeeet...

 

Figures, but if I'm gonna shuck out that kinda money...I want the extras...I'll wait for the keyboard.

When yours arrives make sure to give us a report and pictures. Not a lot of m17x owners that I have seen. It would be nice to compare various opinions.

 

Re-ordered my m17x at 10:00am this morning without the illuminated keyboard. I just got an email a few mintues ago (at 5:15pm) saying my order has moved to Phase 5. To hell with the illuminated keyboard. NOW I'M GETTING EXCITED!

 

you can always add on the illuminated keyboard later on and you can do it without sending it in.

No no. It's a real place. A real place where people-- real people, mind you--are working on building my laptop as we speak. It's a wonderful land full of promise and prosperity (and eventually shipped out laptops).

Dump your illuminated keyboards (for now) and jump on in, guys, the water's fine!

Just watch your splashing! Keep the water away from my laptop.

BTW, I like your "Phase 4" avatar. With my luck, I may need one that says "Phase 5" in a couple weeks.

 

Please post on 7/7 if you actually do recieve your x17m on the date. I really want to know. I made my order yesterday also, and the expected receive date is 7/8.. just checked and still at phase 3.. since i live aboard and only will be in the US to 7/13, so may end up canceling my order if they cant deliver before then..

Hearing that we can add the illuminated keyboard later is such good news thanks! just thinking about taking apart such delicate machine seems scary...

I was under the impression you could not upgrade the keyboard at a later stage (at least not buy a keyboard for you to install it yourself).

I remember someone that ordered the M15x and tried this and was not successful. AW did not allow this upgrade.

 

Dunno. If they do, then great. If not, though, my feelings won't be irrecoverably laid to waste.

 

The non-illuminated keyboard... Does it mean ONLY the keyboard won't have lights? What about the mouse-pad, Alien head, command buttons? Will they have lights? And does the m17x have a pipe light?

 

I purposely made each person, who I talked to in the process of re-ordering my m17x without the illuminated keyboard, double-check to make sure I got an accurate answer regarding that issue. The story three different individuals told me is:

When ordering your m17x without the illuminated keyboard, the keyboard is the only piece which will not light up. All other areas of the m17x will still light up and the colors are completely customizable via Alienware FX.

And no, unfortunately the m17x is not equipped with the light pipe.

 

Received an email at 3:15pm this afternoon; I'm now in:

Phase 8 ... 8 ... 8 ... 8 ... 8 ... 8 ... 8 ... 8 ...

 

wow.. have to share with you all... just checked my order status, it is at phase 8.... EIGHT.... is this even true?... i got the x17m with everything top specs, EXCEPT the illuminated keyboard... guess everyting is stock from this thread is from the keyboard..

 

That's EXACTLY correct. The lady told me yesterday morning that mine would be lucky to ship by July 24th, and I had it ordered around June 1st. She said the only reason is the illuminated keyboard.

So, I reordered it yesterday morning with all the top-of-the-line components as I had before, minus the illuminated keyboard, and now I'm in Phase 8; last lookover and preperation for shipment.

 

good to hear. i really cant wait. last hope would just be the ability to upgrade the illuminated keyboard when is well stocked.

 

Maybe they found a problem with the iluminated keyboard and that's why they are stalling...
