    @milcs
i think the Iluminated keyboard is the top 1 AW seller. Since that stuff is hypnotic. Even the low end buyer pick it.

It makes sense. I can't imagine the M15x without an iluminated keyboard.

But I did think that all the keyboards were the same and it was only a small connector or patch or whatever... that made the difference.

And the drum roll please: tudatudatudatuda

As of 6:45pm, we have an m17x in Phase 9! :wideeyed:

I guess I should take the disgruntled plea of the "Phase -13" out of my signature now, huh?

congrats PLPerron. I called them today and they told me that they will ship my m17x next week with the illuminated keyboard. I thought it was gonna be for another 3 weeks, but they told me that they received the parts today.

just got an email saying mine has been shipping too!

like i said, now the last thing would be to be able to upgrade the keyboard in the near futrue.

lets keep this thread to see if this is possible.

I will make a call to them to find out more about that.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, i phones Alienware yesterday, i was told that until the USA gives the go-shead for the release they won't release anything and to expect mid to the end of July......

I hope they release them soon because i want to know how much i've got to save or if i need to start looking elsewhere...

No. I suppose "bummed" would be the right word. Damn the irony. Mine ships the very day Alienware receives their supply of illuminated keyboards three weeks early ... damn the bad luck.

Like I said before, I would have loved to have the illuminated keyboard. Geez, what terrible timing!

Oh well, hopefully I can talk them into sending me an illuminated keyboard since their sales department told me it would be the end of July before mine shipped, and if I wanted it any sooner I would have to re-order the system without it. I guess we'll see.

These steady ups and downs will be the death of me, I'm sure of it.

Sorry to do a double-post, but I thought this would be helpful:

I just spoke to an Alienware sales rep (about 3 minutes ago). I'd give her name and/or extension, but I remember reading that we're not supposed to include their personal information in our posts. Anyway, she told me that all the illuminated keyboards they just received for the m17x are still a couple weeks away from being installed into any systems because they're going through and testing all of the keyboards for defects.

On the plus side: She told me that when I have some time, I can send my m17x to an "upgrade facility" and have the illuminated keyboard installed. Freakin' A! (We need a "thumbs up" smilie) That makes me feel a little better, and I'm sure it will put a few of you at ease as well. Hope this helps clear some things up.

So, if you have some extra $$ and think you can part from your m17x sometime in the future, then you can do as I did and resubmit your order without the illuminated keybard. I did it two mornings ago, and got my tracking number for the shipment yesterday evening. So if that's the route you choose, you'll have your laptop shipped roughly a day-and-a-half after you order it. Hope this helps.

Congratulations. You got the illuminated keyboard, didn't you? Maybe the sales rep was a little off on her estimate of when the illuminated keyboard-equipped laptops would ship out. I hope that's the case.

PLPerron, sometimes these type of things just happen in life. I'm in the exact situation as you are, but I am glad I'll be getting my x17m on 7/9.

One thing tho, the "upgrade facility" you mentioned, did they mention if we have to ship it in in mail or is it an physical place where we can go to? guess cant do it ourselves huh.. makes it tough for me, cus i live aboard..

Wow .. just checked on alienwares site again... now if you try to order, it says "this item will delay your system order by 28 days" for BOTH keyboards, non-illuminated & illuminated keyboards.....

maybe they are really tired of people calling so much regarding the delivery date lol

I feel a lot better about that, actually. :D

And I believe these "upgrade facilities", as the sales lady called them, will only allow shipments. I may be wrong, but I'm almost sure you can't just drop your lappy off with them.

Well after 65 days of waiting I FINALLY have a FedEx tracking number for my m17x with a delivery date of Saturday Jul 5th before 12:00. Let's hope the FedEx plane/truck doesn't get lost, break down, hijacked.... and certainly not damaged.

Man I only wish my ship date was only a month late. I ordered on May 14th. Original Ship date was Jun 18th. Most recently the backlit keyboard has been backordered and I'm looking at Jul 19th at the earliest for the part to arrive. Ship date will be either Jul 25th or if the part is delayed further, Aug 1st. How's that for a Phase 4 record? (I entered it on May 16th.)

I also called and stated a few things they could do for me to make up for not shipping my order on time, and the representative said "I'm sorry but Alienware has no customer satisfaction policy."

I consider myself a patient person, but it seems like they aren't even willing to acknowledge they dropped the ball on this launch and would compensate us at all. Of course, I suppose anything is possible. Everytime I talk to someone over there I get a different story. lol

Well it finally arrived on saturday as promised. With the holiday w/e I haven't had too much time to play with it but here is a piece of the stats file they put on the desktop:

    Burn-In/Benchmarks

    Doom 3
    Doom 3: 113.6 fps
    3DMark 2006

    3DMark Score: 12,834.00 3DMarks
    SM2.0 Score: 5,817.00
    HDR/SM3.0 Score: 6,772.00
    CPU Score: 2,510.00
    Game Score: 0.00 Points
    SM2.0 Graphics Tests
    GT1 - Return To Proxycon: 47.09 FPS
    GT2 - Firefly Forest: 49.87 FPS
    CPU Tests
    CPU1 - Red Valley: 0.81 FPS
    CPU2 - Red Valley: 1.25 FPS
    HDR/SM3.0 Graphics Tests
    HDR1 - Canyon Flight: 75.56 FPS
    HDR2 - Deep Freeze: 59.87 FPS

Now this was done with the 1 gb that it came with I will see what they are after upgrading to 4 gb

I will post some pix after I get a chance to play with it but the early results are excellent. None of the issues I have been seeing on the forums over the past few months. (no heating issues, no cracks, no case noise, everything as expected)

btw its looks fantastic on my 42" plasma

Just got another email that they backordered something else and now my machine won't even begin to be assembled until August 2nd. I placed my order on May 14th. Original ship date was June 18th.

I'm leaving the country on the 7th of August and will be gone until December. If they cannot fix this in the morning then I am cancelling my order and will never do business with Alienware.

Boy.. That is a shame. I got the same email but it was 2 weeks ago and the laptop case was in backorder and the expected ship date was July 19th. However, right now, I am in phase 5 and hopefully my laptop will ship by July 10th. I know that's never gonna happen because it's Alienware we're taling about. I know that I will receive an email saying something went wrong. I can feel it.

And I have placed my order on May 5th.

    starmage2006,

If you have no plans at the moment, and a delay would not affect in with any plans except just waiting, then I suggest you wait. I was suppose to receive my laptop on June 9th, and I am still waiting because I got nothing planned. I understand that you are pissed, I am pissed off too. But believe me, if you cancel your order you'll regret it.

Why isn't everyone getting delay emails?

My order just went to Phase 8: (Production Phase 4 - Quality Control/Shipping Prep). 7/7/08. I should have it this week. When I do get it I'll post the required review and pics.

I was not getting order delay updates initialy either. I called and asked about it and was told that I would from then on. And since then I did. I also called with each delay and asked to talk to my costomer service rep. That is the only leverage you will have is if you get to know them personaly. Keep up with your customer service rep. Get to know them by name and ask for them when you call back. ;)

It is in transit now. :D It is scheduled to arrive here (in Alaska) On Wednesday the 9th of July. Because of the delays my CS rep at AW offered to upgrade the shipping to 2nd day air at no cost. That is HUGE because shipping to Alaska adds several days to any shipping except 2nd day air.

AW CS has been top notch throughout this whole lengthy process. Again I will write up a review with pics on the M17x and a "How to work WITH Customer Service" guide.

The unfortunate thing is that my improv performance schedule is packed Wednesday-Sunday so I won't get much review or play time till Monday. :(

Except for staying up late and drooling on it.
