Sadly that Auto dimming did not work ... Wish it would have though...
-
-
no that is not it
-
The RGB LED screen is similar to the one offered on the Studio XPS 16 and produces some of the best color reproduction on any laptop on the market.
If you could compare them side by side you would see the difference
-
Not only what Silly said but the short time I had a R1 with the auto dim screen it drove me nuts on dark websites. Black backgrounds with purple and red text were nearly impossible to read. A coworker had a MBP and I always liked how good his screen looks. If the R2 RGB LED is really as good as it seems I can't wait to fire mine up tomorrow when it arrives.

I want to hear your opinion on R2 display since R1's display was annoying for you too

OFF TOPIC:
I couldn't help but to notice the pink blotch in the center of your pictures. I noticed right away that these pictures must of been taken with some mobile device made by HTC. I was thinking the HTC HD2, but then again upon looking at the info, its the HTC Nexus one (Google phone).
Funny, because they were build right around the same time but had different release dates. -
Lol Silly stopped at 666 posts, hahaha. Silent Evil Observer We Are...
Was tempted to do the same

Lol
I was spending my whole time doing research on audio world these recently days
It's so hard and sad to be a noob
The only thing stops me from buying a $800 headphone rig right here right now is M17x R2
I need cash ready for it
-
Don't wanna wait till the 5870s arrive?
Don't make envy you too early, I was hoping to hold on till the CeBIT and then pull the trigger, but you might break the concentration after all these RGB LEDs and crazy benches....rgrgrgrg... -
I cannot run mine on the highest brightness when i am laying in bed. I have to turn it all the way down so it doesn't hurt my eyes.
-
I have a precision m6400 and it has rgb led man it just amazing, i was watching halo legends the new anime short move and man it was just amazing after having the machine for like 9 months to see the colors pop so much its just amazing. I am pretty sold on getting this, playing games on this is great colors pop and you see things you have never seen before. Too bad they don't offer matte for these machines i really dislike the edge to edge crap way to many reflections it really stupid.

When I had my MBP I also need to adjust brightness back and forth.
For the M17x R1, I did not remember the last time I lower the brightness down... Oh I remember now... It's when I reinstall OSD and want to make sure every key works
lol what I actually meant is $800 is big for me. If I burn them now I need some time to fill up my budget for the R2. And unable to pull the trigger on the first week of 5870 launch is the last thing I want. After I get the laptop I will spend for my audio hobby
-
And when Alienware update their system with the new 5870, and ATI announce a better card to come at the same time ?? Then what ? Don't order again and wait for the next update ?? I wouln't wait to buy a system just for the reason the next one will be even better, cuz it's always gonna be the case..... just my thought

Eventhough Im camping for 5870s, I couldnt agree more
Im just trying to choose a best time to get rid of computer for a while to focus on other activities
You know: New semester, music and incoming M17x refresh. They are taken together is my reason for camping
-
-
lol thats a great wallpaper WAR.
-
Normally I agree, but right now I got the best GPUs and quite happy with them. So upgrading to R2 is not likely to happen just because of the i7s. And I can always upgrade to RGB LED screen if needed.
Maybe I will wait till the ATI refreshes the GPUs, since there won't be more than 20% jump with 5870s...
-
Eh. I wouldnt upgrade either if you've got 4870s.
I've gone back to desktops for serious gaming myself
Need a break from problems of 17 inchers
Will be jealously checking out this thread anyway though from my M11x
-
Not to rain on your parade, but I highly doubt you can put an LED screen into the R1 as it had a CCFL only option.
Connectors will be different. -
I checked with DELL today and it's easy as a pie to replace the entire lid, just costs a fortune, but if you're desperate ...
-
It isn't the lid that you need to worry about, but the physical connection to the mobo.
I'm telling you, it isn't going to work.
This had been discussed and tried around here before, and no go. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
no he can't upgrade the screen i open the r2 to swap cpu. and the motherboard has two conectors for the screens and the r1 has one only 1 -
Yes, we both know better witcher. lol
I am trying to let him know not to get his hopes up. -
Megacharge Custom User Title
That's odd, my R1 motherboard has 2 connections for the screen, a big one and a smaller one just to the right of it. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
yep i was surprised when i see one extra connector on the r2 motherboard that is for the regular screen
-
Well, the R2 can take both screens.
The R1 will not be able to take an LED screen.
For anyone who wants to know why, pm zfactor
-
Same here, 2 connectors, the only difference is their location on the mobo. On R2 mobo they are separated, while on R1 they are close to each other. I bet these are the same connectors.
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
I bet they are as well. -
Good luck
-
If you guys are right about this one, I'll have more reasons to press on Dell for misleading me...
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
well this one has 2 big connector and 1 small
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
I thought you just said the R2 had 2 connectors while the R1 had only one, now you say the R2 has 3 connectors? Have you even opened them up and seen either of these motherboards? -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
-
Bad news then, guess, I'll be joining your camp sooner than was planned...
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
And the RGB uses all 3?
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
the small connector is just for the back light so it has 2 data and one for light
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Excellent so now we know 100% it wont work. I hate speculation.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
no the rgb uses only the larger one on the top and the small one -
Megacharge Custom User Title
So what's plugged into the one below those two?
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
nothing...... -
Are you 100% sure the larger one on top is different from the large one from R1?
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
Well then if the RGB display only uses those two on the top, they look identical to the ones on the R1 and if they are I would suspect it to actually be compatible with the R1 mobo.
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
for what i remember after taking my r1 like 20 times apart "yes"
-
I'll give +rep for weeks for anyone who tries though. lol
Might make of for some of the heartache of tearing down you machine
-
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
they don't look identical only the small one is the same -
Voltage is completely different b/w LED and CCFL.
From what I remember, the connectors are competely different. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
i try to explain that thanks sleey0
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
From the picture they look identical to me. I knew there was a good possibility that they were slightly different though.
Thanks for clearing it up. -
those are sick scores - I want one!
-
So what overclocking options are there in the BIOS?
Adjustable Base Clock (BCLK)? Multiplier? Switching Turbo boost on and off? Adjusting Turbo boost?
Any other ways to adjust the BCLK and multiplier via software? Does Intel XTU work?
