Clevo on the other hand might offer something interesting for 13" category.

Besides, do you think that Dell would destroy the entire Alienware image when they got plenty of potent models like Adamo? -
Adamo is a weak system. Dell could create a 13" 1.2" portable using a midrange 5000 series card + arrandale with an all aluminum design. That would definitely give mac or hp envy a run for it's money.
-
-
Don't forget, that 12-13" lappy should be light and slim, otherwise you create a would be gamer with a tiny screen, and trust me , many people will find it tempting to hurl the system out of the window (especially since it's light and more aerodynamic

You could get dual GTX 260M's on the UK site until about 5 days ago. Now you can only get an M17x with dual GTX 260M's through resellers like Currys and PCworld. Strangely enough, all of the Alienware stuff disappeared from the Currys and PCworld websites last week for a couple of days, then the M17x and Aurora ALX? reappeared the other day... same spec's as before.
So new processors, graphics cards etc are on their way. What about chassis designs? Will we ever see the return of Skullcap lids or rim lighting? Maybe a reduction of the machines height? -
Those ugly old AW designs need to stay in the past. -
Love it or hate it the skullcap was popular. They should at least make it an option on the new system.
-
hate it but then again I'm weird so don't mind me
If AW did release a 13" lappy it would at least have to have the performance of a mid range card to fit in. -
-
I don't know why they call it a skull cap design. It reminds me of ribs when I see the design..so damn ugly.

Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
we need a refresh soon because all the minds are flying
-
-
Yeah as long as it's an option and not mandatory I don't care what they use. I wouldn't want to be stuck w/that design though. -

Who thinks that the ATI 5870 are going to be advertised with GDDR5 and who thinks we will actually get it this time around?
Also someone else claiming to have GDDR5

interestingly enough you can customize the thermal paste put on the cards -
How about an 11" AW? -

Be ready with cash in hand week 1 of february.

the3vilGenius 3vil knows no fear
haha why shouldnt they have a share in the biggest market there is? I am also assuming they will release one. if it is at the CES i am not sure however. Maybe in six months, who can tell.
-
Keep the positive thoughts coming! A real portable AW to replace my Eee PC would be pure awesomeness.
-
and would have half the batterie life
how ever a 11 or 13 with the finish of the new m17x and m15x would just eb awsome -
Unfortunately, at least 4.5 hours battery life would be a must for me to adopt it.
-
Wishful thinking methinks. Dell already have the Mini 10/v and 11z, ...and they've only just released the Adamo XPS and Vostro V13. A < 13" Aliwneare notebook wouldn't make any sense whatsoever... no matter how cool it would be.
-
Wanna bet?
USD 100 says i'm right. ;-) -
If it's got an internal discrete card it'll easily be much bigger than your average 11.6"....especially if it's anything minimally decent like a GT 330M.
If it's an external GPU solution like the Acer Ferrari One than the combined bulk of the notebook and hub would be larger than a 13".
February would probably be too soon to see an ION 2 mini-PCIe GPU with anything better than the Pineview Atom in which case I'd prefer an AMD Congo platform or something with a CULV+discrete.
But even still it's doubtful AW would put out a machine like this to be a budget competitor...which is really why this market segment is so popular (size is secondary). -
-
I would bet Dell releases new systems this year!...about as useful as what you are posting. -
Any takers on the 11" bet?
I say what i know, nothing more nothing less. I know they will release an 11" AW first week of Feb. No idea of specs yet. -
-
I just imagined people would be interested in knowing this. Next time i have any news i'll wait until it's published in a Dell press release and link to that for proof.
Mandrake, An AW 11" within 4 weeks is a tiny bit more specific than "dell will release something this year" don't you think? -
-
The Alienware brand is synonymous with powerful gaming notebooks. It's a niche market as it is. Why would Dell sanction another <11" system when the market is about to be flooded with dozens of Ion based platforms that are capable of playing games like CoD4?
If it's true, then great, it'd be interesting to see what they'd come up with... but with zero real retailer leaks or murmurings... and no details whatsoever other than an approximation of the size... I don't buy it. -
I've said it before, I'll say it again: my dream Alienware would be a thin(ish) 13-15inch with some decent horse power ala the HP Envy, but minus the heat issues plus better battery life and an integrated optical drive. They can have their bigger badder monster gaming rigs and have this for people that want a decent amount of power but also portability.

Off-topic slightly...
A lot of the pictures i've seen of the black M17x make it look matte, but i've just watched an M17x unboxing on youtube and that was quite shiny. Is that right? One's matte and the other's shiny? I know they're made out of two different materials, but I figured they'd use the same paint!?
Which thread would be best to see the machines in the wild... as it were? -
could they be releasing the two ?
-
Well, as far as I know, unless the M17x's with the ATI's are different, the black finish on the beast is shiny everywhere except for a small piece just between the hinges on the back of the screen- and that is the same matte finish as the inside palm rests, but with a bit of 'texture'.

My M17x is exactly what I'd expect. Matte and textured, but has a reflective quality when exposed to direct light.
-
I have found something that would be an interesting addition a screen that doesn't need 3d glasses to produce the effect made by a company called Magnetic 3D.
would that even be wanted though? -

If it works, then it sounds pretty sweet.
I'd still rather have a full 3D interface that has no buttons at all, but it's a step in the right direction.
