Jan. 18th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Eventually.

. Plus, for the price of 10 minutes of my time registering and writing my post while my code compiles I had a chance to get some info from the only guy on the internet who seems to know the actual release date. If I'm lucky and you accidentally let something slip then hurray! If not, then I can return to my normal lurking with the added benefit of being able to follow links in posts. Win/win as I see it.

It's alright though we can't both be winners. -
So will the refresh be released by end of this week? hot or cold....
-
-
I think Phinagle is having some fun again.
-
Phinagle with an NDA?
hahahah
You go, phin! -
Now I don't have to resist the temptation of "confirming" that Fermi wasn't ever coming to mobile so I wouldn't have to hear about it anymore. -
I say we hold Phin responsible if the refresh does not come on Monday with the following:
Factory OC i7 to 4.5ghz
Liquid Cooling
Factory OC SLI 295GTX desktop version
RAID 0 1TB SSD
1 year of gaming on nuclear powered battery life
Holographic screen up to 78" -
I think you need to look at either buying a UK replacement keyboard or learn the US layout. -
Or just use Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator to swap the $ for a £
-
gah I want M17x refresh to hurry up and get here cause my laptop is also crapping out
-
-
-
-
You can't do that with a US to UK keyboard layout as there are too many differences.
As I said the best way is to use MKLC to edit the US layout and change things like $ to £. You can put $ as Ctrl+Alt+4 instead of shift. -
-
No as locality and keyboard layout are separate options.
-
-
-
I'm not sure on the number of keys but there are a lot of keys in different places.
-
if it has the same amount of keys then if you set it to uk layout an use it as a uk keyboard but you just have to remember which key is which.
-
Yeah which as I said isn't practical as there are so many keys in different places.
The best solution is to create your own custom layout based on the layout that matches the keyboard. -

If i remeber correctly you remove battery. undo the 2 screws to remove the back cover and then theres two long screws that hold the touch strip panel on to be removed.
just look where the panel goes from the underside. Carefully lift touch strip pannel off as there is a ribbon cable attaching it. you can either disconect ribbon by lifting gently the plastic clip or just move it aside an inch.
That exposes the top of the keyboard. remove the 4 small screws that holds the top of the keyboard down. and then carefully lift off removing the ribbon cables.
its a 5 min job to change the keyboard you just need a small phillips screwdriver -

By reading this whole tread
1 no one really knows when the Refresh is being Done
2 no one knows what will be in the Refresh
So in my view it could be 1 week or 6 months. -
We know it will be soon as it's already been announced by Dell and it will have at least Core i7 with dual graphics:

Hay javilionaire. Working on computers are easy. The main issue people forget is static. One shock from static eletricity can fry a system in seconds. Working on a laptop with differnt screws it good idea is to take Pictures if you have a camra. Mybe put screws in a number order.

-
Perferably a big one. This helps pulling the screws out of the holes as well as holding onto them when placing them back in thier respective places.

One thing I do know Sell rep. Just sell things. They tend to have limited tech skills they know what on paper. So when I talk to them they seem to Play dumb and dummer as in a Sell rep and superviser sell rep. I also had one even lie to me. So I am looking at people who are trying to sell things. If you had one tell you it float in Mid air are you going to beleave them.
I think the Tech department would know more about the refresh then sell rep would.
Yes I do beleave there will be upgrade with gpus what type that is unknown. -
How are you returning your M17X for a refund by the way? Are you allowed to do that, I thought you only had 21 days to return it once you get it?l -
You do only have 21 days. but they gave me some leway since I had mine shipped to an APO and it takes a while to get here. I ordered on Black friday, recieved it Dec 15th, and called them on day 26. Got the return approved yesterday. I started a thread here since other members were also considering it.
Going to be bummed if they don't offer blu-ray burner with the new model. Although considering it's a new model I'm sure they will have all the bells and whistles. Perhaps thats why it wasn't offered with the M17X anymore, saving the parts for the refresh. I hope.
Once I send it back I have to send them the tracking number, then once they get it, it'll be about 12-15days to get the credit back to my account. Hopefully by that point the refresh will be out and I can place the order -
-
Guys the blu ray burner is out of stock and is going to back in stock for the m17x by the 17th, According to a Dell rep. i talked to. Thats why its not an option on the customizable page.
-
Haha I remember them Old 386 and 486s. The chips where a pain to get out or put in. At least now ZIF and mark with one offset pin. So you dont mess it up.
Ya where I live static is bad it cold and dry. We dont get many Humid Days even in the summer time. But never had problem repairing systems. -
