I've just checked the UK site, the i7 refresh is now available there too. Although I don't see an option for crossfire, the only HDD config you can pick is RAID 1 and the blu ray drive is missing there too.

Alienware is trying to sell all the left over stock they have so they just put ati cross fire giving the idea to the people that they can buy the two and swap them in the future of course in the future there'll be nvidia and ati cards and a motherboard to change too more money to spend I think

definitely. that's one of the reasons i was ready to make the purchase. currently, i travel and now i'm no longer in my dell-purchase country, but i am in a dell-supported and dellienware-selling country.

there's some mention about transferring your dell warranty to a diff country if you've moved or travel, but i don't understand why u'd need to do that if the country u're in already has dellienware support.

Because Dellienware and how it is run varies from region to region, and also I could be wrong, but believe they have thier own internal systems and accounts.

A US account generally wont be accessible via EU Alienware for example.

The deterrent for any color option is the ridiculous prices they charge for them. It is difficult to justify a C-note for case color.

Once you have a laptop, you may transfer it's warranty to whatever country you wish (on the list) using the International Ownership Transfer Form. The new owner doesn't have to be the same person who bought it, but in your case it will be.

Check the warranty status page for the laptop first, just in case it's already set to the right country.

alienware is US have the option to customize the M17x with i7, and I just customize mine, but one thing though, they don't have any NVIDIA 300 series, just single 1GB ATI 4870 or DUAL 1GB ATI 4870s.

Oh, they also add the option to choose RGB LED screen with 1200p

The best 300 series mobile gpu is the GTS 360M, which isn't anywhere near as good as the GTX 280. The 4870 is better than the GTX 280M.

What are people's opinions on the i7-620M now available in the M17x? Is it worth getting that over the i7-720qm since it's 32 nm?

No crossfire here either, and its even worse with the m15 x which starts at 1900 euros as the lowest price and an nvidia gt (s?)240m...
I hope these insane prices and low upgrade options are just temporary. I have no problem in spending 3000€ on a m15x or m17x, but not if you get old hardware from 2008-2009.

Oh and the led option for the m17x cost 250€, its the cfl (or however tis called) screen with full hd that costs 100€ extra here.

Yeah the new screen is nice and i7 option good but everything else seems to have got worse, i def dont want raid 1 as my HDD option i want SSD really, raid 0 at least........its kinda odd what they have done with the options. Why do u.s have crossfire and no one else, kinda strange if the u.s have the option then it obviously fits so why offer everyone else just single options. il be looking to order in about 2 weeks , if its not all sorted by then i might look at other options as im not sure i rlywant the hassle of ordering from the u.s come to think of it

Supplies of the 4870 are probably low because ATi is transitioning to the 5800 series. You guys in Europe should just wait until X-Fire 5800 is available.

Hold on, if eruope doesnt have the option, could australia also not have ATI cross fire enabled?

currently we can only pick between SLI 260tx a single 260 and 280 GTX sli. we also still havn't rolled over to refreash yet so its duo and quad core only m17x.

if what you are saying is true about single ATI cards, should i order mine right now? cause i would be better off in terms of performance

Well obv 280m sli is better performance than the 1 ati card but like previously said do you rly want to pay alot of money for a laptop with fairly old tech when newer stuff will be added..........like i say tho if you ask they should tell you IMO

P.S. gonna click to chat and ask again i think

The Refresh happens in Australia in 2 weeks. A chat guy comfirmed it. Lol'd No price though. So expect it to be way higher then the normal M17x, with the ATI they'll probably just give us Single either 260m/280m Im sure you can upgrade it later on to a 4970

Did order my m17x refresh through dell.de , on the internet site i couldnt find ati crossfire and raid 0 wasnt there either .
So i called them and the operator was able to sell me ati crossfire and raid 0 , and imo he will be able to sell u the silver color too .

    My system speccs :
i7 920 XM Ati crossfire 1 terra HDD in raid 0 RGB LED screen
4 gigs of 1333 ram Blu-Ray Burner and 3 years of warranty

for 3200 Euros wich is approximately 600-700 Euros cheaper than the configurator on their site said !

So i would strongly advise u to call them ^^

in crossfire is more then enough !

But ofc i will upgrade once they are available just like i will upgrade my 4 gigs of ram ;)

It's not gonna be surprising that NVIDIA is going to come out with something to compete with ATI's latest 5870. Just how it works. ATI seems to be doing better as of late however so I wouldn't be surprised if NVIDIA falls short on beating the 5870. Though we'll know for sure in March as I believe that's when the 300 series cards are going to be released.

If you wait for them to be available from Dell/Alienware you can get them from them. I think you have to send your laptop in and have them installed by them though.

It's hard to say since the cards aren't officially released yet. I'm sure once their available some of the members here will upgrade and can give you an idea of how much it will cost.

What are you going to be using your M17x for?

Ill be using it for gaming ofc :). Mainly for one game that's coming out called which is meant to be 75-100% more graphically more demanding than .

Again that's hard to answer. Since Final Fantasy XIV isn't released it's hard to say how demanding the game is on the GPU. I would imagine the 4870's will do just fine with it. Only reason I say that is it's not common for a game to come out that is so heavily demanding that even the latest tech can't handle it.

It's also to be released for the PS3. Games designed for consoles tend to be more CPU reliant. Since you're getting the Intel i7 920XM Extreme I think your system as it's currently configured will handle it with ease.

10:16:13 AM ANZ_Chris_Seah it should be ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4870
10:17:33 AM Jay W and those are available as dual cards in cross fire mode?
10:18:54 AM ANZ_Chris_Seah Max. Amount of Memory 1024 MB
10:19:39 AM ANZ_Chris_Seah With more than twice the processing power of previous generation AMD discrete graphics cards, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4800 Series graphics deliver a cinematic gaming experience and unprecedented performance.
10:21:20 AM Jay W lol , yea i was kinda asking if those were avaiable as dual cards in cross fire mode, because europe only have them as single card configerations
    10:26:04 AM ANZ_Chris_Seah so far 1gb
10:26:32 AM Jay W so only the single card option right?
10:26:49 AM ANZ_Chris_Seah correct as per now

Well looks like Australia is gona be screwed as well :(
