I wonder if WOW's DPS improve with FPS?
-
-
I think what I like most about playing WoW on the M17x is the 3 second load times between zones
-
It does, easier to maintain rotations
-
i hit over 300 fps in wow with vsync off @ 1440x900. i average about 160
-
I'm running in SLI also...make sure to uncheck "vertical sync" in the video options. 30ish in Dalaran is acceptable, I only go above that in areas of dalaran where there's no action and where the FP is... I got everything maxed in the video effects settings except: View distance 1st notch, shadow quality at 0, and weather intensity at 0. View distance dramatically decreases FPS, I can live without perfect shadows under my flying mount, and I hate rain
I don't know if FPS affects DPS but it does affect healing. I've improved my healing since recieving my laptop. My cast bar used to be sluggish, now its very fluid and heals come in a the right time.
Btw, yesterday we went in Ulduar 25, we killed everything up to Freya, the graphics in the Conservatory of Life are incredible. -
Curiously, what processor do you have? Have you oc'd your gpu or cpu? Andddd, what gpu drivers are you using? I'm gonna go and turn vsync off to see what happens!
-
I ordered a M17x with:
Intel Core2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
17.0in, WUXGA,LCD,ANW,M17X
1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M
320GB (160GB x 2) - RAID 0
I bought it to play WoW on, I am replacing a 2 year old Dimension E520 and an older Gateway laptop with it. WoW plays fairly decently on my current system but I am hoping to see some improvement with the M17x. I do a lot of PvP.
Am I going to have to change some of the settings out of the box other than ensuring drivers are updated? -
I have the 2.4Ghz, nothing is overclocked, I am using the drivers that came with the laptop...I do have 6Gb of RAM...So I don't think that the results I'm getting are exceptional, I'm sure a lot of people are getting much more than me.
BTW I'm playing on Zul'Jin...+ 3.2 out today...get downloading!!!! -
I have the Q9000 oc'd to 2.4ghz, WoW plays just fine at around 100fps most of the time, but it does go down in raids and Dal. If the 3.2 patch becomes live today, any one with Death Knight will have the talents reset again.
-
3.2 is live. I have everything but shadows, weathers and spell particles maxed (find it hard to locate mobs that pop up to OT with all the spell FX) and see around 30FPS in raids. I do have V sync checked tho. I need to read up on OC this thing see if I can get my CPU to.
Think I saw something in the patch notes about improved FSP for those with shadows enabled.... -
My HPS increased (Holy Priest) and my DPS aswell (BM Hunter) but you can nearly get the same result by using Quartz (addon).
It's not only the rotation which is easyer to keep up it's also a minimum increas of reactiontime you get
But this was @ BC, I don't know what's up now^^ Stopped palying with releas of RotLK
Greetings

Sadly with my M17 I have to turn down almost all the settings. Not due to my system not being able to handle the game but due to the odd fact that increasing a good number of the settings slows down my already worse-than-dial-up connection.
Example of average of 1500+ms ping. Stupid satalite shots. =P
FPS though is 200-300 in low pop areas and about 60ish in Dal. -
Dial-Up + WoW = Epic Fail!
-
actually you can leave WoW out of it as it is not that much of a resource hog, it is more like
Dial-UP + ANY MMO = Epic Fail -
Sry but what is "Dial-Up"?
THX
Greetings

it is a fossil that was dug up by archeologists back in the 1900's -
I'm still suffering 60fps in zones, which goes down to 20fps in instances. o.o Vsync off, running SLI on "Boost Performance", so what the hell? =(

Please keep on-topic in this thread, thank you.

Did you wipe and reinstall the drivers for the GPU and chipset?
I need to do the same. This notebook that I have is getting approx 10-15 less FPS than my first one.
Kinda strange but I really think it is software related or maybe even BIOS since I have the new bios on here. -
I've heard that disabling SLI may improve the preformance guys. WoW has no support for SLI and is sometimes causing problems.
-
WoW sucks!!!!!
-
/palmface
lol -
Yeah, I installed the drivers from my disc, so don't understand why my fps is so bad. =p
-
@Shuya
Video settings: Do you have "View Distance" set too high? I'm on the first notch only. If I turn that parameter up my FPS goes down drastically.
Also "Shadow Quality", I read in the patch notes that they improved FPS for those with that parameter up, I haven't tried it yet but mine is set to 0.
Also try doing a /console maxfps 200 to see if yours was not locked at 60. I have mine set at maxfps 75 and that's because I don't want my cards to work too hard.
I don't think that your problem is hardware/driver related...I'm on BIOS A00(original) and I use the chipset/videocard drivers that are on the CD provided with the laptop. So I'm running with all the basic drivers. And even if I toggle SLI on and off, the FPS doesn't change. I can still get over 200fps in SW.
I will post screenshots of my video settings tonight so you can compare.

Good to know I don't need to mess with the out of box settings. Will have enough aggravation setting up addons again.
-
Sadly I don't use Dial-up. I'm in Iraq and the only connections we have are via satalite. Then add into the mix about 2000+ users atleast per satalite shot back to the states... I'm sure ya'll can see my issue.. lol
EDIT: The M17x should be more then enough power for WoW, driver/sli issues aside. -
This computer should run wow with absolutely no problem.
I just got mine a few days ago. I can do a full Naxx run with no lag on high settings. -
Thats very wierd, ive seen my FPS hit 250 when in locations like Stormwind (i rarely seee above 50 FPS while in Dalaran though.
-
I'm certifiably rich now. Three weeks ago started off with 7g on bankalt now at 55k gold.
-
you didnt do anything illegal did you?
-
55k gold in 3 weeks. I only see two ways of doing that.
1) Buying gold from illegal sources.
2) You are a zombie
-
LoL, On one of my characters i have more gold than ill ever need.
>>
<<
Don't ask cause i can't give.
-
lol no, it's all legal.. pvp on the AH
-
LOL I would never buy gold. I'm just a zombie. I watch the AH like a hawk.
-
oh and of course 5k of that is on the (im horde) alliance toon I made. Now that I have access to their AH, it opens up some new opportunities.
-
Little tip to make money off the AH:
Tuesday morning before the server restart, do a search for all items and sort them by "time left", check the ones that are "short"...A lot of times you will see an epic item with the BO price of let's say 3000g with a BID starting at 1000g, you bid on it, then the server restarts, the item had a "short" time left so it will be in your mail when the server goes back online...Put the item back up for sale and tadamm instant profit.

I play wow on my asus w90vp(I know its an m17x thread), I get similar results as the majority here. Everything set on high in 1900x1200 pre-3.2 I was 60-70 fps in most places, and Dalaran was 20-30, some times lower. No OC'ing(also with the Q9000). After 3.2, whatever they did with the shadows made them flicker for me on high, so I dropped it down 2 notches.
Just wanted to share experiences since the gpus are similar in performance(though the 280s are probably a little better) and i'm bored at work. -
I know I'm sort of bringing this back from the dead, but my M17x is only a few days out and WoW will be the first thing I do after OC'ing. I'm stoked because my MacBook Pro gets 60-80 in most places, 30-40 in Dalaran, and a few times I have peaked at 110 all with most settings maxed. Can't wait to see what this will be able to do.
But I have a question. I've read around the WoW forums that SLI can hurt fps and you should disable one card, is anyone here finding this to be true or is the SLI problem a thing of the past with WoW? -
I'm running SLI for World of Warcraft, whether it helps or not I'm not sure, but it runs great with everything at max settings, so...
-
The problem with WoW is that latencecy and FPS are not independant. If your ping time is poor (satalite for example) your FPS will suffer regardless of your hardware. I can get decent fps 40+ fps running on my power saving 9400M. I've only updated the drivers and gotten rid of Macaffe and replaced it with Avast.
I just picked up my M17x from Microcenter last night and have been pre-occupied with other games. So far I've only installed WoW, patched and kept my AH trades moving along. So far it seems like a waste to use $2500 to play WoW. *waits for other games to install*
-
Well I dont think it is a waste. Blizz has done a good job at upgrading the graphics of the game and once you do a 25 man raid with all spell details maxed you will be glad that you have the hardware that this machine has..
-
$2500 a waste for WoW? Then whats $4200? <.< I do see your point though since it can play more graphic demanding games at such high rez, why worry about what it can do with WoW. Its like asking if a P4 could play Ultimate Doom. heh
Anyways, I don't have any lat issues at all. Mine hardly ever goes over 70. I've just heard that WoW and SLI does not play nice together. Guess I will wait and see once mine shows up Tuesday. -
You will be happy with it playing wow.. Way i look at it, is its your money.. If you spend it on something that you want and does all the things you need it to do in addition to meeting your expectations then its money well spent.. lol
I know that is all opinion but as long as ur happy who cares lol..
GL and I hope you like it -
My comment about $2500 being a waste is more a relection of guilt then dissing anyone for buying an M17x to play WoW. Hell I played $2500 on Friday to do the same.
-
LOl I wasnt viewing it like that.. Just helping relieve the guilt and give justification lol...
-
Wow was it just a week ago I said I had 55k gold? I've reached the 90k gold mark lol. 100k here I come.
-
I'm struggling just to get epic flight for my 2nd time... and thats with the price drops!
-
Any of you fellas play on Elune?
-
Kirin Tor here. Both sides.
-
Wow is not very taxing. My Pentium 4, FX5900, 1gb DDR memory can attest to this.
I'm sure you can max settings.
