Thank you for the KAV version number. Our engineers tried to reproduce the problem of AlienSense being disabled using the only version of KAV that they could obtain - the most recent version - 11.0.1400 - and AlienSense worked as expected. Sorry that I don't have more news. Perhaps the updated KAV doesn't cause the same troubles as an older version might.

    Hey all,

I honestly did do a search for any solutions to this here and on google, however after reading for an hour and not finding an answer I've decided to be lazy(ish) and just post.

Anyways, after installing the most updated version of command center available (off Dell's website), my command center interface won't launch. I've tried reinstalling, etc, without anything working. Whenever I try to open the window I immediately get that friendly windows 7 "CommandCenter Has stopped working" window.
Note: Updated CommandCenter as of today (October 1st, 2010)

Dxdiag (don't think it will help but hey, why not)

So yeah, I don't really think there's much else I can tell you but at the moment I'm a bit out of it - so if there's anything else I should include, which obviously there will be, I'll quickly post it if someone asks. Thanks ahead of time ;).

    Try the following:

    1. Uninstall Command Center
    2. Reboot into Safe Mode
    3. Run CCleaner's Registry Module
    4. Reboot the system
    5. Once back at the desktop, reinstall Command Center
    6. Reboot

See if that resolves the launch issue. If not, check the Windows Event Log and see if there is an entry for an application crash for Command Center. If so, post the details.

Had done those ^ before, but re-did them today (Safe mode, now that's a fun thing), still didn't work. For some reason didn't think of going through error logs, here's the most recent attempt to open:

    From your log?

    Date: 01/10/2010 7:18:28 PM

Humor me... check to see if your Microsoft .NET is current. Run Windows Update an be sure to verify there are no .NET updates waiting for you. :)

Interesting point scook. Wouldn't even have thought of that. Must wreak havoc. :(

When i saw the date, figured it was an old entry. Hopefully the check on the .NET yields positive results. The error he describes is different from the others - I dont believe it is related to a bad flash of the AlienFX Controller's firmware. Very odd to say the least.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure everything's up to date: I always update windows whenever it pushes any update - this is the last update I had for .net (which was yesterday).

    Also, yes, 01/10/2010 = October 1st :p

    Still not working :(

There are multiple threads about all the alienware images and themes that you can download. Try searching the forum ;)

Bump for checking around and trying a few other 'fixes', and yet my command center still won't work. :<

Not sure what to suggest at this point Jingle. Might consider a factory restore using DataSafe Local/AlienRespawn - whichever your system shipped with. I do not believe this is a hardware issue but most likely a software issue - something is funky with your OS install/registry.

This is probably somewhat important, however, while trying to reinstall command center I recieved periodic crash messages for "AlienFX Tester" or something along those lines (tester was definately in it). This would only appear on my screen for 2 seconds max before closing itself and the installation would continue normally.

This also happened when I tried to reinstall off the M17X Resource DVD.

    Hey all,

The same post has been on the 'official' dell forums for about a week now without a response, so I figured I'd post here. I know I posted about this issue a while ago, however the situation is starting to degrade.

A while ago I updated my command center to (what is now) the latest command center version from the dell support website. After updating, I was unable to get alien fusion working/running. Over the period of a few months, I tried a few of the various fixes to try to get it do something and eventually gave up, since windows 7 has a decent 'fusion' service anyway. Not long after I gave up, I was unable to launch command center. Since I was still able to turn on and off my AlienFX and do anything else I normally would with the command center suite, I didn't care much that I couldn't actually run the GUI. When I first encountered the problem I tried some of the fixes I found, and every now and then when I get time I try to work on it a bit more. Since it's been (as I said)a decently long period of time I've decided to give up and ask the support boards. I realise this is something that should have been high on the priority of trying to fix the problem, but I'm very, very dumb.

TL;DR: My command center won't run. When I try to run it, I automatically get the crashed error, which quickly goes away and nothing happens. I've updated and tried fixes, I am dumb.

Various 'fixes' I have tried include, but are not limited to:

-Running M I/O Diagnostic to try to 'reset' the board (unless I was doing something unbelievably wrong, again, dumb)

-Uninstalling and reinstalling command center (using the various 'Official' Dell guides on how to do so, e.g. : ( Command Center FAQ - Alienware Forum - Alienware Club - Dell Community)

-Reinstalling the most updated command center

-Uninstalling (completely, in guides similar to the above) completely the command center suite and all of it's affiliates (sp), making sure every single last files was gone, and reinstalling command center via resource driver CD shiped with computer (I saw on this board a post saying "never do this or Jesus will smite your M I/O board and Dell will laugh at you, like I laugh at you know for even considering it, muhahaha", however this fix was on another board that seemed 'legit', so I tried it)(Note: I did this long after command center would not work, so I doubt it's the initial cause of any problems here, though I'm sure it made it worse, yay)

Note: Every time I try to run AlienwareAlienFXTester.exe (or when it automatically runs when you update/install CC), it also crashes. I have deducted this is probably because M I/O boards are cool.

So yeah, I've expended the resources I feel like expending and frankly I think anything else I try to do (or already have done in confusion) will hurt the computer. Any ideas other than 'phone Alienware Dell and force them to give you a new M I/O board without confirming that's definately the problem because you can and also muffins' would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure things related to this post (or dead on about this post) are already on the boards but both google and in-forum searches for "m17x command center won't launch/run/execute" didn't have anything that seemed promising in them...
    Thanks ahead of time...

    Sean

See my post above from 2 months ago. Other than contacting support (who will have you do the exact same thing), a clean install or restore back to an out of box state using DataSafeLocal or AlienRespawn will most likely resolve this. If it does not, then the next step is a motherboard swap since you cannot change just the MIO. Its on the motherboard. :(

I too have a problem with the Command Center crashing when I select the Virtual Scrolling option. This is the error message I get:

For the person with the virtual scrolling problem, I had the same problem and called Alienware up. What they did was re-install my driver.

I finally managed to get this fixed by installing the scrybe driver/application from the synaptics website. The generic driver didn't work for me for some reason. Going back to the dell recommended driver brings the problem back, which leads me to believe the problem is an incompatibility between the command center application and the older version of the synaptics drivers..

Thanks bat boy, Im just confused. My alienware is not old..
but yet around the forum i get mixed signals. some people reffer to it as just the M17 and others refer to it as M17x-R1
But if i look info fo the M17x-R1 i get a way different looking designs. so I know i Got at least the M17-skull cap..
the number on the bottom says M17-R1 and that it.

if its a Core 2 Duo CPU and does not have a 260M, 280M, 4870 GPU then its a Legacy Alienware. If it does not have a little label that says: SERVICE TAG then its a Legacy Alienware.

If its a Legacy Alienware, the Command Center version which appears on support.dell.com is NOT for your system and will most likely break something.

You need to stick with Alienware.com's support site called My Hive (read the red text on that page). Also, utilize the wealth of information here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-area-51-aurora-legacy-systems/

If its a legacy alienware, that is the sub-forum to use. :)

The old version themes are probably not compatible with the new version. You will have to redefine the theme you want manually.

Open Command Center (AlienFX), from the File Menu select 'Close Theme'. Using the same menu, select 'Create Theme' and make any changes. Click Apply and then save the theme.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
    </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

and so on, anyone experience it before and how to fix it?
is so frustrated after reformat my alienware M15x and I lost my data safe backup thingy....
The error message's tittle is Microsoft net framework, I think its pretty much connected to netframework problem.
p.s. I've installed netframework 3.5, but it doensn't work for still....

Just got my M18x yesterday, every time i try to open command center I get a long black type box and when i push ok the alien FX pops up and disapears, ive tried reinstalling the command center drivers synaptics drivers and then got fed up and did a complete system restore to see if that may fix the issue....after I reloaded all the drivers and software command center worked fine for a couple hours and then the same problem started again....any ideas how to fix it??

    Thanks

I'm so tired about this problem with my M17x r3

    After I reinstalled win 7,

I downloaded the alienware command center from support site,
it says " the theme you are opening is not compatible with this computer.
you will not be able to apply the theme" everytime I start AWCC.

And on the AlienFX page, there is a whole page of error information,
starts with " system.NullreferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object............ "

I was told to update BIOS and I did so , but problem continued.

I still have my LED on , but I can't change the colour.

anyone met the same problem before? any ideas how to fix it ?

Did you get the right version, specifically for the M17x R3?

Try a full power drain see if it helps.

Welcome to the NBR Forum. We're happy you joined us and look forward to hearing more from you.

The "full power drain" is this:
    • Disconnect AC adapter
    • Remove battery
    • Depress and hold the power button for 60 seconds
    • Plug in AC adapter
    • Power up laptop
    • Reinstall battery
This helps your system clear out corrupted settings at the hardware level that may cause issues in the OS environment.

So, this has become an annual thing for me. Basically, Whenever I fire up command center it would go into "CommandCenter has stopped working". I've tried all the advice I could find on the old threads like uninstalling - installing, flashing the bios, upgrading the .NET, re-installing the OSD, running CCleaner in safe mode. All to no avail.

I've eliminated hardware as a problem since I still have my lights on and if I download a theme and rename it to "Alienware" i could change colors.

Any advice? I used to resole this by just doing a clean wipe and starting over again but It would be burdensome considering I misplaced some of the installers (eg. Adobe products)
