Why didn't they introduce an Ultra portable !! I was waiting for them to release an M11x type machine..![]()
-
I don't think Dell will ever introduce (atleast for the next 5 years) a 11 inch alienware laptop. That area is getting eaten up by 2 in 1s.
-
I'm gonna sell one of my 17R3's.. What's a fair price to ask for it?? It's in perfect condition, no warranty though.. Specs in my signature.
-
new design, specs specially 6820HK cpu options are great, huge bezels though specially on the 15 inch doesnt make sense.

still no idea why Dell couldn't put in a full sized keyboard on the 15 inch
size is not an excuse, basically almost all OEMs 15 inchers have full sized keyboards nowDarkKnight919 and Tonrac like this. -

When I see the kind of goofs that represent Alienware as a company; the only desire I have is to purge everything associated with the brand as soon as possible. True story.
-
Love the new models. Makes me want to update after just 1 year of owning an AW15.
Because it sucks. I hate trackpads on such a mid sized laptop. Makes the location of the WASD awkward. -
Lol.. that guy had me as soon as he dribbled "It's a game changer..."Daniel1983 likes this.

Alienware had been churning out some pretty cringy videos since last year, just check their youtube channel
Depends on the design. MSI did it right with their GS60 -
The GS60 is a laptop I consider one of the worst ergonomically wise. The trackpad is too far to the edge and has an annoying offset. The keyboard itself is too much vertically in the middle
-
wait do you have a typo in there? I'm talking about the numpad, not trackpad
-
No type. The numpad pushes the alphanumaric part too far to the left and the trackpad has a strange position because of that. I really hate the GS60 layout overall.
-
I agree with you ... for me, it will be a no go for the Alienware 15
-
Don't like the missing number pad on the A15 but do agree that having a non centered trackpad does make it slightly odd.
-
I agree on the design is sleek this time But they should have gone for the AW18 atleast this time given the hype for the brand is real, Just add MXMs in them and see it go and bash the MSI's Titan !!
Again they removed the status led lights, that's dumb as f, the old M1xx lineup had superb cool touch bar and status leds slowly stripped off everything lol...
Edit :
Yeah I agree there even though they look good for me..Last edited: Sep 2, 2016 -
Yes, but they're going to reveal the new 13 at a later point.

Because it's built tough...magnesium alloy, copper and aluminum.
Rumor has it that you can set the laptop on its side with it open and sit on it.
::iunlock:: -
@DeeX I assume you are there at the press event based on your first post, did you manage to get a hands on the laptop, and did you spot any LED status indicators on it?
-
Well these look ugly AF from my point of view... It just started to look like all ugly Asus ROG GL series machines, even with a more displeasing back part...
From my personal taste, they ruined it, what comes to the outlook... Had a 2014 Alienware and was happy with it's minimalism style. Since then, this new generation is just ugly. Sorry, but I need to have a beautiful machine, if I will be willing to pay over $2000Mr. Fox likes this. -
well to each of his own.... but I find these new Alienwares more minimalistic than the previous designs. You can turn off those light strips and you'll get a normal looking laptop
at first look the design reminds me a lot of Dell Vostro
I do wish they offer a black matte version instead of just silver
The silver colour and hinge forward design reminds me of some older Dell Vostro
Turn off the tacky LEDs and you will get a conservative looking laptop to use in the public.

Wow really sucks that if you want a 17 with the 1080 you have to wait until the middle of November to get one. Might as well wait for Kaby lake at that point.

I'm glad you guys pointed out that the sides have air intakes instead of exhausts. I looked at that picture or the video they posted wrongly last night. That would have been a dealbreaker.
I definitely prefer the look of the 2014-2015 models, but sure it can be worth it if the performance improves significantly. They do need a lot of cooling power to handle a GTX 1080.
I'm also looking forward to the reviews.
Oh, and by the way, now there's no maintenance hatch. So all you have to do is remove the back aluminum plate to access components. That's probably a lot easier for cleaning and component replacements.Last edited: Sep 2, 2016Wes of StarArmy likes this. -
Something that has been stated about the new laptops is that they should all be VR ready. This includes the new 13.
It will, obviously, be equipped with Kaby Lake processors, most likely from the U lineup. That said, there may be a quad core option in the new 13, even if it is a ULV processor.Last edited: Sep 2, 2016 -
The 15's centered keyboard is actually far easier for me to type on than ones that have the num-pad and off centered keys shifted to the left.. There's obvious reasons why Apple also uses a centered keyboard on the MBP15.. Comfort and ergo make a difference there. Different strokes though. I have a Alienware 15 R1 (with 970m) and I miss that machine's build quality and battery life. The new R3 hits a lot of my requirements, GTX1070, 6820HK, and battery life (hopefully).

Looks like that its going to be more difficult to clean the fans...

the maxwell aw have 92whr though?

I sold mine for $2300 to a person I know.
I also got a bid on eBay for $2550 for it because I forgot I had the listing up. I ended up telling him that it was already sold.
I also know someone that sold theirs for $2500.
It should be noted that many of the extras like 950 pro etc were removed. These systems also still had warranties.Daniel1983 likes this. -
Awesome, thanks. Are those prices in CAD or US? -
How in God's name do you make a 15" laptop over 7 lbs? Is there 2 lbs of copper cooling?

One of the reasons is the battery. @Alienware-Frank said so!!

I don't know why computer makers don't go the Surface Pro route where in you put all the electronics behind the monitor and have a detachable keyboard with touchpad.

Still don't understand why they go with full copper heatsink's etc, when:
To sum it all up:
Copper= Transfer fast, release slow
Aluminum= Transfer slow, release fast
That's why we see the high end cooling solutions beeing copper based, then from copper to aluminum fins to fanstemp00876 likes this. -
15 incher at 3.5 KG is insane weight, they have reduced the thickness but increased the weight.

well, now I know my next laptop will not be an Alienware ...

Pictures of the new 13. The touchpad seems to be illuminated this time, and there are dedicated left and right-click buttons. The Alien Head power button move to the far right corner, probably because of the bigger touchpad.hmscott likes this. -
Loses none of the ports from it's bigger brothers, now that's impressive. -
I like how they reallocate the speakers to the side. Allowing space for the battery or cooling?
-
It's like that for the 13 R1 and 13 R2. Mainly space for the battery.

Nice catch.... it seems that's gone as well
It may not matter to most people out there, but for someone like me who does photography a lot, an SD card slot mattersTBoneSan and DarkKnight919 like this. -
It is like 3.5 jack in iPhone 7

-
Would an otherwise excellent laptop be rejected because of missing an SD card reader?
I use an external USB 3.0 reader or adapter as it usually outperforms the built-in kind.
Over time faster cards have outpaced built-in readers, at least from my limited experience with them.iunlock likes this.
