Do not forget that the new stronger battery in the new models weighs more as well. After what Mr. azor said![]()

Well, ran my 17.3" 1080P IPS at 100hz for about half an hour while messing around in Overwatch. No issues. Not really using this machine for gaming, but was curious to see if the panel would push a bit.

hi guys, we have some informations about light bleed and poor image quality on AW15 UHD panel. it's shame for high level laptop.
So any news about the ips 1080p one? it's the same quality and light bleeding than uhd one?
what about the AW17? -
something seems amiss here.. -
And what about the 120Hz 1080p one? Any received their machine and can comment, post panel model, maybe some photos?
-
I think I read somewhere though that the lightbleed issue with the shp1450 panels in the aw15s wasn't actually due to panel but due to a taping issue. there's a post somewhere on this forum where some guy totally rid his panel of lightbleed himself albeit in an arduous manner. -

Not noticeable during the day, it is on dark environments with dark scenes while gaming. It looks like a build issue/trade off in the 15 R3 to me, the bezel is thin. Anyway hardly to accept that in a high end gaming laptop.
The cooling system is amazing though, temperatures always <70C in game with Battlefield 1 for the 1070. -

If they'd let me configure the 6820HK with the 1440p screen, I might've caved and bought one of these by now.

There is yes. But far less in practice. That one is acceptable to me, the bottom right is in the limit.

How long does it take to ship to EU? Mine was shipped last Sunday, 16/10. It still says“courier is taking it to UPS facility in China”. Is it possible that the courier checked it for me and found serious light bleed, so he decided to refund for me?

While A better paste job will probably get the temps a few degrees lower I don't expect magical results. I think Alienware did a really good job with the cooling solution for the pascal chip but at the expense of cpu cooling. If I remember correctly this was the other way around with the R1.
I am considering returning the laptop but want to do a little bit more testing before I make my decision. Since I'm running pretty late that will probably be tomorrow evening.

Note: I did not get any shipping updates at all. The status changed from “courier is taking it to UPS facility in China” to "courier is on route" on the day of delivery.

Apparently it happens across different panels so I am not optimistic about a swapping. Which is a shame as it shades what it could have been an impressive laptop. -

oh well, even if it's not super high aRGB, i can live with it as long as it doesn't have terrible lightbleed and yellow tint, which I gather I should be able to fix by calibration anyway -
1. LQ156D1JW02 - brightness 350 cd/m2 100% adobe
2. LQ156D1JW04 - brightness 330 cd/m2 72% NTSC
3. LQ156D1JW31 - brightness 400 cd/m2 100% adobe
The precision 7510 uses display 2 (as it does not have 100% aRGB) and has 86% aRGB.
Now AWR3 has brightness 300 cd/m2 so it cant have display 3.
So it has either display 1 or 2, in any case it has atleast 86% aRGB. (and dell aint fool enough to give it a 100% adobe. So it has display 2 most probably)
N.B. 72% NTSC on paper translates to 77% aRGB albeit from notebookcheck's review it seems thats it has a better coverage in reality.Last edited: Oct 22, 2016 -

Ok, I got to do a little bit of additional testing tonight. To be clear, I have overclocking disabled.
Yesterday the the system shut down when the temps surpassed 95 degrees. I got to this point by playing Deus Ex on ultra settings. Deus Ex is pretty bad port and is pretty cpu heavy as a result of this.
Playing The Witcher 3 on Ultra settings on 4k(1080p didn't stress the cpu enough) also led to a forced system shutdown.
The strange thing is that the behavior was different with prime95. Instead of shutting down, the cpu throttled like crazy, it seems to throttle at about 93 degrees.
Stranger is that the results where better today in similar tests. The cpu never surpassed 93 degrees so no forced shutdowns today. The room temperature is 2 degrees lower (18 degrees) than it was yesterday but such a minor variation should't have such a heavy impact. If it does, it will be fire and brimstone during summertime.
Maybe the paste hasn't hardened yet.
I can conclude that repasting is inevitable since the temps differ per core:
avg core temps:
- core 0 - 91 °C
- core 1 - 85 °C
- core 2 - 84 °C
- core 3 - 79 °C
I must admit that I'm a bit hesitant to dissemble my brand new laptop. I've build/disassembled many desktop systems but laptops not so much.
Did anyone disassemble the new 15 or 17 yet. If so, what are your findings?
I there has already been a lot of discussion about this but I'm wondering what paste I should use.
I always use Arctic Silver in my desktop builds but since I don't do heavy overclocking anymore I'm a little outdated. Any suggestions besides Liquid Metal?Pallab likes this. -

I do expect that my 15 will suffer a similar fate if I don't get the temps down.

ICD, Gelid Extreme or Grizzly Kryonaut. Everything else is a waste of time and money. But Liquid Ultra is no. 1
None of these new AW models I have seen, have normal max temp. Tragic temperatures. What if the inside temp going up to 30 degrees Celsius, as some have?Last edited: Oct 22, 2016
