I've been watching the stream all day and haven't seen any information regarding the new lineup. Has anyone seen anything different, and if so, would you care to post it here, or just the links? :)

im trying to watch the stream which is lagging like crazy and am very interested in the annoucement, if there is one, as my m17x r1 is dying a slow painful death right now so im hoping the next revision is coming out and i can possibly get a new one if its not too expensive compared to the current ones

I watched it the majority of the day, and did not see anything about the release of the new line-up. However, I do not consider my time totally wasted, as it was more of just something in the backround to the main things I did.

Also, I found out about a new game called Nexuiz which looks good, and because I was watching I got the beta key :D.

Anyway, nothing new from Pax so far, which is strange since Bill the rep guy said we would get news. My excitement got flushed away a bit.

April 29th is when IB is slated to come out, NDA is pretty much just a rule that says you're not allowed to talk about something.

This upgrade cycle is going to be a lot more exciting for other manufactures, who will just now be getting Optimus. Those Origin laptops went from 2 hours battery to 6+, and now they compete with Alienware.

Looking at the Origin site, with the new pricing and features suddenly Origin looks really nice. They might be my next laptop if nothing changes, mostly because I could get a custom paint job and all the same specs and features as Alienware for roughly the same price.

To get a Clevo laptop, you don't need Origin, just go for Sager resellers like XoticPC and LPC-Digital. You'll get a far better price and service for the exact same machine ;)

I have heard some bad things about some of those "bargain" resellers. Not to mention my primary reason for getting Origin would be the amazing paint jobs and they supposedly have really good support (but not in-home obviously). I have no desire for a generic Sager, heh.

This is very true, I will have my current Alienware for quite some time, so we will see if I ever really use the support. I won't be in the market for a new laptop until at least the 780m is released, and probably the 880m depending on how tech progresses. I expect the first refresh after the new consoles to be basically revolutionary, and I will want to get my next computer after that has happened.

I just really like the look of those custom paint jobs, maybe Alienware should expand their solid color offerings. I want green or blue or something awesome, not just black or red. Alienware used to offer more colors, I would buy them if they offered them again.

Yoda, you need to educate yourself a bit on Clevo resellers. Sager is a reseller same as Origin. Yes Origin offer some additional stuff on top which is where I see you are coming from :) I know you aren't in the market for a new laptop but remember to do lots of research when you do. Any Clevo model from any retailer is a "generic" custom laptop. The only difference is with differences in warranty and customization. Plus if I came to choose a Clevo as my next laptop, I'd always buy from someone who at least has a rep here at NBR.

Buy an extra set of casing for your AW, take it to a car paint shop and have them sandblast it and anodize any color you want on it. The cost for that in my area is around $75.

We got some cute AW models, least that's something...

Heh, now I am really confused. I never did much research into the other brands, since none had the battery life of Alienware when I was buying.

So Clevo makes the base laptop, sells it to Sager. Then Sager takes it and sells it to places like Xotic, who then sell it again? Then Origin is like Sager, they buy direct from Clevo?

My comment with "generic" Sager is that they are one of the companies that I think offers the "no branding at all" option. So it is literally a generic black laptop with nothing. Versus Origin does a bit more to differentiate their product.

I always thought Sager was a manufacturer competing with Clevo and Compal though.

Wow, I wonder how much an extra set of casing would cost? And if I would need to swap into the original casing to get service (in other words if they would try to void my warranty if I had a painted case).

If it really is like $75 I would look into it for sure, a custom painted Alienware would be pretty awesome.

See this thread, it was one of the reasons I'm planning on getting an m18x, rather than an m17x r3.

EDIT: found the site that sells the parts:

Hehe yeah it gets a bit confusing. No Clevo are the only manufacturers here. They produce the base model. All other companies are resellers that includes Sager, Clevo, Xotic, Fortnax, LPC-Digital, etc. That's how I see it. They are selling something manufactured by Clevo and they do all the assembling and warranties and their own cool touches etc. How they acquire the parts is probably different such as buying direct from Clevo or one reseller buying from another reseller turning them into re-resellers but the fact is that the original laptop design/model whatever you want to call it, comes from Clevo hence not much variation in price. All the goodness is what the resellers want to do with it such as paints jobs and warranties.

Remember Alienware used to be a Clevo reseller before Dell bought them out. all the models that came out before the M17x R1 are all base Clevo machines, just heavily customised.

Keep in mind that without the new CPU's AW has nothing to offer in a refresh right now.

Clevo jumped early because they added Optimus, so their new laptops matter, even with older CPUs. Alienware already had it, and we already have the 580m/675m, so the only upgrade is Ivy Bridge processors and they won't come out until the 29th of April.

Optimus + 675M + Sandy = AW + 580M + Sandy but a year ago, hehe. AW offered switchable graphics from the day one with all their top models. IMHO, it's a waste of resources for Clevo to bother right now. Better wait 1-2 more months and get the new platform and faster GPU's. The only model they have which release makes sense to me is the P270WM but it comes with a desktop Sandy-E with 30-40min battery life.

hi. ive been hearing some talk about clevos in hear and would like to point out that i have the p170hm(17inch) now. below i have posted links to the clevo and m17x both speced exactly the same(the only difference is optimus and a backlit keybord and of corse the style)

i would like to point out that these are the australian websites and there might be a less of a difference in america

    http://www.logicalblueone.com.au/store/455-clevo-horize-p170hma-gaming-notebook.html

The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

i have had my clevo for 8 months now and have had no problems with it except that the first model they sent me had a couple dead pixels so i sent it back and they replaced the screen

right now i am waiting for the m18x to come out because i want to get that for the duel gpus and since the clevo 18inch was discontinued but if alienware wont hurry up i might just go for the clevo 270wm(the one with a desktop proessor but it is absoultie hidious) the p170hm is just simple not ulgy lol

edit: i just noticed that the websites dont keep my specifications in that case fiddle around with the specs ur self the alienware ended up at 4grand while the clevo was 3grand i would like to point out that the 3d screen on the clevo is out of stock since they are just selling what they have left

also clevo would be a much better option for prople who want a 15" with a gtx 675/680 because i believe the 14" alienware just has a 555m unless they update it

How about Dell showing some love for the M11x lineup?
We need a R4, not that the R3 is bad but it's the oldest model without a significant chasis refresh , a matte screen option with IB wouls be a welcome addition, thats what I'm waiting for.

I went through this debate myself a year+ ago. If you are patient, you can probably purchase the Alienware on sale when they have a promotion and get the price to be similar or possibly less than a similarly speced Clevo machine. AAFES (military) and some of the past promotions ran as high as 25-30% off. There was also that saveology coupon (25% off).

Hoping something like that happens again with the new models.

On the 15" side, you have less options since the M14x doesn't have a top end gfx card.
