same thing happened to me, I was ordering a new heatsink and the rep tells me all of a sudden "I will give you a call next week to see how things are rolling and we may have a bunch of new stuff you maybe interested" :)

I don't think so why would there be Alienware logos on the picture then?

I don`t believe it until I see it. Sweclockers are always using the "sources known to us" card when they write articles.

I assume you are talking about a watercooled notebook now right? I can understand that the development work and cost would be immense but Asetek have already made a working prototype. They already did most of the work I suggest you guys take a look at that and maybe implement it in the next M17x and M18x? I don`t know if the cost would attract enough customers to make a profit though. I reckon these things won`t be cheap.
But one last question: Is the "its coming" picture notebook related? :)

I ordered a M14x R2 this morning and found this forum this afternoon (which btw is full of great information). As you can see, I'm new here so my ability to "read between the lines" may be limited. Did I pull the trigger on this purchase a few days to soon or could I be in for a nice surprise in a few days?

Maybe they're finally going to refresh the area-51 ALX with a GTX 690 ? But that's for another thread :)
So better wait and see than to dream and be disappointed.

I think it is notebook and not desktop related. If it was desktop related why would Bill tell us, notebook enthusiasts, to wait for Tuesday?

He also said that this announcement is independent of the current Alienware line refresh (if I got it right).

So I assume it must be a new laptop.

A new Alienware laptop designed in collaboration with Nvidia (which would explain this intriguing picture) .

Just speculating of course :) .

Nvidia promoting a black 'case' with nvidia and alienware logos on...whilst the rumor mill gets going again, im going to go and sell any relative i can find, this sounds pricey :p

The thing i dont get though Bill, are you suggesting that we should be buying before the announcement because they wont be shipping for another month anyway, by which point IB will be out, and *cough cough* something may happen. Or are you suggesting that we should just be calling up as soon as the announcements happened? Cos i think thats a given tbh :p

Also, im assuming we havent yet worked it out, given the 'why is this thread still open, its all known now' *threads closed* *hastily reopened*.

When I think about it, I don`t think it can be a GTX 690. They just released 680 and they won`t release 690 until AMD have released 7990.

But assuming its a notebook, wouldn`t it be weird to announce M17xR4 and M18xR2 and suddenly release a different design/notebook? Wouldn`t it interfere with the recent announcment and the established models? hmmm

If it's a new notebook it definitely can't interfere with the current models so it's size must be something new, not 14inch, 17inch or 18inch.
I would be tempt to say it's the m11x replacement but Bill said we won't hear from it until few months from now...

    Really puzzling indeed...

I think you guys are mixing up Bill's posts with the "it's comming" picture. They have nothing to do with each other, the picture itself could be lappy or desktop related.

I remember it but with the X51 i don't think we'll be seeing a similar system to the M2010.

Exactly, Bill didn't refer to the picture when he said next week but rather to the Ivy Bridge chips.

The dude he is refering to who said something was me, not speedy. Earlier this week Bill couldn`t say anything about some products because he was tied by Intel`s NDA. I said that the NDA is lifted on Monday and Bill quoted me and replied "I think he is on to something"

So either Alienware is releasing new specs (Again!) with the Ivy Bridge processors for the M17x/M18x, or something else comes along, with these Ivy Bridge processors...

680M before the release of the GTX 660 Ti + TSMC yield problems makes that unlikely. 680M isn't coming till they can maintain steady supply on the desktop side.

to bad the 7970's still don't show on the M18X-R2 once people rely that you are getting an equivalent ivy bridge CPU to the one you pick now the shipping dates are going to jump massively

So I don't think it'll destroy the shipping date quite just yet.

I think this thread of speculation isn't the one that leads you to enlightenment. I'll have to beg a pass.

"It's coming" was more about this announcement and events that are possible to occur after Intel has some big announcement or something Monday. Hence, Tuesday or after will probably have a heavier than usual news cycle. :)

All I'm saying is I wouldn't cancel the order if I already placed it. What estimated ship date did they give you?

Your reading comprehension and ability to infer are top notch. Slight correction- I'm not saying "order now." I'd consider that bad form, as I'm a guest here representing another company, and NBR is nice enough to let have me. What I'm saying is only that if you order one of the announced products before the Intel embargo, I wouldn't cancel. I don't think there's any value in just ordering now if you had not already planned to. You won't lose out on anything if you wait. I'll talk more about this Monday or Tuesday, but for now Dell needs to respect our business partner's wishes.

    Overthinking.

    Correct.

Correct and correct. LOL. You guys are awesome. We should have coffee some day.

(I'll just leave those other comments right where they are.)

So Bill, is there anychance we can expect the 7970 in xfire for the m18x in the near future on the configurator? Like before tuesday? Or will it all be patched out and such once the tuesday announcement hits?

Today i cancelled my m14x r1 order as soon as i found out the great news released today! They had no problems refunding me as it was still in the pre production stage xD
I spoke to a rep and worked out a configuration, he said he will ring me back tomorrow after working out student discount ect ect...
He didnt seem pushy for me to buy the laptop today, i wonder...

Dont know whether to wait or go for it after reading this thread ;P
I need the laptop for assignments but wouldnt like to be left behind by ordering a week or to earlier!

Ill keep an eye on this thread and forum, its getting very juicy xD

So m14x r2 has an mSata slot, a GT650M DDR5, blu ray drive, its slightly cheaper, and it went down slightly in depth which means that the vertical screen border shrunk a little. Seems good, maybe one day Ill get a replacement or something :) Cant wait to hear about performance.

    GT 650M with GDDR5 = GTX 560M

So yeah, quite a performance boost over the GT 555M ;)

Hmm interesting. If the product have to wait after launch of Ivy Bridge and the removal of the NDA, it have to be something WITH Ivy Bridge, hence it is no GPU.... :D

    Edit: Nevermind...

Bill, thanks very much, youve done a top notch job on here, and youve certainly got my purchase with Dell because of it. But aye, i think ill wait till the new week; make sure you point out how many 'sales' you secured through this forum, certainly mine for one.

Ofcourse its possible that theres other NDA's (or general secrets) in effect, seeing as Ivy Bridge aint really much of an NDA with everyone knowing about it. Personally I'm hoping for freakin lazer beams, either way I'm happy though.

    You are good to go.
I'm in the age of Sgt Shultz when it comes to water cooled laptops. I know nothing.

Quite welcome. No more big secrets for now. It's all a bunch of waiting around at a statue unveiling going, "I wonder what's under the sheet" at this point.

If you are ready to order today- and this goes for everyone- don't listen to the ninny tech bloggers. They're either stumbling around in the dark, or playing dumb like good embargo observers like me. Don't worry about IB/SB. If you are not ready to order today, wait at least until Tuesday or so. If you are, don't be skurd.
