    Bill,
How much more money do we have to spend for the unnamed component once it is announced? i plan on pulling the trigger but once i made a decision i cannot turn back because i cannot cancel and reorder or return the system back if i don't get the unnamed component because i'm only asking a favor to my uncle and that would be a bother for him to repeat the process. i just want to save money that's why i want to order now so i don't have to pay extra for an upgraded component but if the prices will be the same, i think it would be better if I place an order after it is announced.

    thanks.

Dude, read the thread, if your planning on spending this sort of money on an alienware laptop, a bit of reading is a great idea. Also, grammar, i felt like my brain was choking reading that.

The gist though, unnamed component included in all systems order after at least a week or so back. Everyone should have a due date of ?18th? onwards, to allow for time to build the systems after the announcement.

Well it appears Dell AU is gearing up to gouge its customers once again...

6990M option has been removed from the m17x configuration page, only the GTX 560M is an option and the base price has jumped around $600.

This places the base m17x $200 ABOVE the base m18x with GTX 580M SLI.

No doubt the m18x will jump soon also.

    Looks like ill be importing.

I was thinking about getting a 512 do you think the 830 is worth the extra $100 from the comparisons and reviews I read there didn't seem to be too much difference.

That would be nice, but the guy of Mythlogic has the MXM 3.1 data sheets, and the max power has not been raised from 100W.

Screw the ferrari let's grab a rolls royce :D I didn't believe you at first but got my first MacBook 4 days ago - you nailed it 100%. Now, all we need is a matte retina screen + Ivy

As for the 7990M, of course it will be released and then followed by the 685M... the eternal money sucking cycle, lol.

    Ordered: M17X R4, i7-2760QM @ 3.5GHz, 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon HD 7970M, 12GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz, 64GB mSATA(boot drive) + 500GB 7200RPM, DL BD Reader... $2887

    Rep's are typically totally lost.

Anyway.. I've been trying to relax reading threads on the 7970's performance... and they don't help. I want an M18x-R2 more than before. Let's go Dell, get a move on :)

Yeah, only sometimes... you're right, Speedy. Always have to be careful about hype with sales. These prices seem similar to what I have seen for Dell refurb depot, but these are new. Specs are low also. Fry's policy is to meet or beat web prices from competitors, so sometimes that works out good. Part of the point of the post was that they are making room for new generation, so prices on old stock may drop further.

Tbh I've never really liked Clevo all that much. Mainly because I can't bring myself to trust the desktop processors in a laptop  and to a lesser extent the design never really pleased me, if Im paying in the thousands for something might as well have it look awesome XD

Remain calm. We have some kind of IB blog post on Direct2Dell supposedly coming today. I have not seen the draft copy, so I have no idea what we're going to say or if it's still going to go live. For sure, at 8:01 AM, CST Monday, all will be revealed in a press release. There is also talk of a Direct2Dell post specific to Alienware slated for 7:00 AM, CST Monday before the press release that may have some good information. If that Monday morning blog post goes live, many questions will be answered by it ahead of the press release. I don't know how today's possible blog post will affect the blog post that has been planned for Monday morning. Maybe they spell it all out today and eschew the Monday post? *Kanye shrug*

I can confirm on the Dell end that we are not aware of a 7990 at this time. When we are aware, though, we won't say anything until AMD does.

It'd probably help to know more about the MXM 3.1 (?) spec since that would limit whether a 7990m is even possible. Then we wouldn't have to wait for AMD or AW.

Any hardcore engineers know anything or articles about it?

    Bill,
I had to join... been following this thread for a while now. I'm actually torn between XPS 17 and M17x/18x. It's like deciding between a porsche Cayenne and a Carrera, more practical or going full sport. So what "June will be fun" means? Will XPS details will be revealed on Monday as well or will have to wait until June... don't know if you were referring to the fact that XPSs are currently sexay or are going to get even more sexayier. I still own an XPS M1710 and loved that machine to death..gamed on it, did my eng. college proyects on it.. awesome machine! My only gripe was that the hinges on screen broke about 2 years ago and since then I rarely close the screen. Can't wait to shake the anxiety on Monday, thanks for all the teasers Bill!!

Since I can't talk about the component in question due to business partner embargo, I can't acknowledge. However, speaking hypothetically, whether we would do any proactive messaging would be something we would hypothetically be considering on this very day if we were in a position where we would make a component change on any orders for some hypothetical reason that does not necessarily apply to this hypothetical situation.

No announcements on unreleased XPS products are coming Monday. I was just meaning that my birthday comes June 6, and I love currently shipping XPS. If you look at how long the current XPS line has been around, there has to be a refresh coming at some point, right? I can't say when, of course.

Let me know when an XPS speculation thread pops up. ;)

XPS is and will always be one sexay beast.

...and completely ordinary looking, made out of plastic, etc. It's hard for me to get excited about a square-cornered plastic box that is going to chip and crack with the hard travel that I subject my systems to. Turning heads is part of the fun, and that's not going to turn any unless you run into another geek that knows his laptops better than the average Joe.

    UPDATE to post #1440

Hypothetically speaking, if we were considering a proactive email notification, I would have just received confirmation that we are going to, but since this is hypothetical, I may or may not have just received this confirmation 2 minutes ago.

Talking GPUs to be offered in m18xR2s, Dell-Bill_B, can you tell us if we can expect our current m18xR1 to support 680M? If one owns a 'pimped up' M18x bought last year, buying a new one is... inconvenient. However, I bet many will want to upgrade to 680M, especially if the card turns out to be a performance monster.

I agree completely. In 1996, i would have been all over that. But today's PCs are also about having a certain style and design. Its not the primary factor, performance is, but it plays a role that is greater than i think people realize.

I am curious about this as well.. and the 7970M.. has it been confirmed as compatible with the existing cooling system and slot?

Yes. There is even some Swiss shop already offering M18xR2 equipped with 2x 7970 in pre-order. There has just been a thread about that in this or m18x forum.

I am one of the wait and see crowd. I'm not about to consider going red again until it is proven that NVIDIA is going to sit out this round of the fight without dispatching another Radeon killer until 2013. I don't expect they will do that. The GTX 675M in SLI has absolutely nothing to offer that GTX 580M SLI owners don't already have. We may see a late release on a GTX 680M that is different (better) than expected.

I think 7970M compatibility can be taken for granted at this point, seeing the we have NBR members that have already installed 7970M ES cards in their M15x and M17x R3 systems.

It's not the first time we are thinking in a similar way. I am also a bit skeptic about the outbreak of the 7970 craze. If I were to spend my money, I would want to see the whole spectrum of GPUs to appear this year, and not get automatically over excited about the very first card bringing technology change translated into performance boost.

Even if I was going to invest in an AMD card, I'd wait anyway. Nobody knows what's around the corner for another 2 months. Last year 580M came pretty much out of nowhere and beat 6990. 580M were expected but nobody really knew anything for sure till the day the cards hit the shops.
