    @poison1217

The order did not change to IB but except for the i5's do ship with IB if you ordered the R2. The rep. just looked at your original order is my guess.

What to do: receive laptop, turn on and go to BIOS to check the CPU.

The odd thing is it shipped so soon, you sure you got the R2??

No you have a return window.
In my country its 7 days. US has 21 days but the sooner you contact Dell if something is wrong the better.

When I first ordered M15x, it had an issue with the touch controls. Opened it, used it for a week, sent it back, ordered a new one which was fine.

No re-stocking fee, but I am in Aus and I pointed out that laptop was faulty. Not sure how law applies over there.

The way I'm reading it is they can charge the restocking fee at any time unless your return is Dell's error.

    2760 not 2670.
Just talked to them and they said "since we built your system so fast it did not get processed with the new 3rd gen cpu. You will have to wait till you receive the item and then send it back and re order." You let me down Bill! You said if there is problem with our laptop order you would fix it personally. Can i hold you to that?

Very strange, hope that Dell-Bill_B can help you with it. Are you sure you got a R2? Since Dell released the new CPU's today and yours is ready to ship you might got a R1.

yea made sure it was an R2, they say it hasn't officially shipped out yet but it's on it final process and can't be cancelled anymore. I basically have to wait 2 weeks till it arrives at my house, call them, send it back, wait till they get it, wait till i get refunded and then re order again and wait 3+ weeks.

If you click on "View Packing Slip" on your Order Details page it will take you to a new screen and your Service Tag will be on there.

If your order has shipped, click the "View Packing Slip" from your Dell Order Details page and scroll down, you will see your service tag.

Take your service tag and go to Dell Support and click on the Drivers and Downloads page, enter your service tag. Click on System Configuration on the upper right corner. This will show you the page for your computer that I posted a screen shot of. Hope that helps

Alright so talked to Dell rep and thanks to copperhed we may need to wait till the order actually ships. Only then can we see the service tag. I ordered mine on the 25th so i would be surprised with copperhed got his upgraded and mine didn't. *crossfingers*

I think you will be fine. I ordered very early when the R2 came out. If you ordered an M14x-R2 with an i7 it WILL be shipped with Ivy Bridge. As Bill-B said, the R2 was always going to have Ivy Bridge with the exception of the i5, its "present compatible".

I think what messes up everyone when they contact Dell is the word "upgrade". Dell doesn't see it as an upgrade because the R2 has always had Ivy Bridge, they just couldn't talk about it till today.

Guys, I don't think it's worth bothering your reps about service tags before the device has shipped, or confirmation on your processor. Just wait it out a few days, and check your service tag once it's available - I'm inclined to believe that most of the orders placed early last week will be shipping sooner then what is shown, but that is a hunch.

If the people who placed their orders early are getting ivy bridge, you are too! (provided you ordered an i7, in a region that is getting the update).

Needless to say, I'm excited to get my M14x with the new i7, and I thank Bill and Allen for all their support!

I think Bill made it pretty clear that it was pretty much impossible to get a Sandy Bridge machine unless you were that M14x with the i5 config or something. My guess is that the reps don't know a thing and just go off what's on the screen that you see. As confirmed by someone else, when it ships, it'll probably be Ivy bridge since that's all they are building now and they probably use the May 23rd date to give them enough time to change over to the new CPUs...

Under promise, over delivery and everyone's happy so they have plenty of time to ship your system out. I expect they will probably ship soon since there's no more need to delay perhaps.

Just wanted to say thanks to Bill and Allen and some of the other Dell reps here. It's a welcome change and I know that dealing with picky customers can be a total pain in the *ss (I sell retail too). You rarely see this type of service/support and am glad you guys are stepping up to set yourselves apart from some of the other companies out there.

I'm still hoping for a new M18x, but waiting on funds as always (ugg) and 7970m x2.

I think I read that they couldn't even start producing them until the embargo ended today (IIRC it was Bill). Mine has been in "Production" for a while so maybe they've had them all ready to go except for processors. Hopefully mine gets shipped soon too. Ordered 04/24; EDD 05/25.

Congrats on getting yours shipped Copperhed.

    Finger's crossed it'll get here tomorrow :)

People in the US who have had their new gen laptops shipped.. where have yours shipped from?

Theres no sign of ivy bridge processors on the uk site and every rep ive spoke or online chatted with deny that i will be getting ivy bridge!

I ordered the i5, so I know I won't be getting IVB. If I had ordered the i7 though I'd be a little concerned, like you, that there is literally no mention of IVB on the UK site.

It's odd.. I guess the only thing you can do is wait for your invoice and try the Service Tag on the support site. That said, I just tried mine, and got a 'not found' message - a good start!

Just spoke to my rep and he said the third gen processors were supposed to get released yesterday but due to technical faults its been postponed until may the 5th for the uk site!
He also told me that the uk wont be automatically upgrading the SB's to IB's and i will have to reorder!
To be on the safe side i cancelled my order and will reorder when i see IB on the uk site and i can confirm what im actually paying for!
Last thing i wanted to do was to receive my laptop then return it because i missed out on IB by just a few days...
My rep said they might be able to take pre-orders for IB tomorrow, ill give them a call and see what they can work out, its been a month and a half since i made my first order for alienware, they've got 1 more chance :p

Why did they have to make it so complex?
Sorry to rant but when your paying around £1900, you shouldnt be messed around like this =/

I think you've done the right thing.. I know there have been reassurances from Bill (Dell) on other threads, but it seems that the UK is going about things a bit differently to the US.

At least this way, you should only have to wait a few more weeks. If you had to return an SB machine and then re-order, it could take forever!

Mint my Sales rep seems to have taken this week off work :p

On the pausing for 7970m front, speaking to joe bloggs sales assistants all I can do is cancel the order and wait, seems very wasteful like, instead of just putting my order on hold the only method is to scrap my order, put everything back and then start again.

Hmn cant decide how much I fancy going red.

Depends how much you want the performance of the 7970M and if you're willing to wait for nVidia's 680M.

I personally would prefer the nVidia chip due to generally better driver support (and a far better UI for their GPU control panel) but the performance of the 7970M is so far ahead of the 580M/675M right now, and there's no sign of the 680M on the horizon. Basically, I'm waiting for the 7970M Crossfire in the M18x, and once that turns up, I'm ordering one.

Basically, I'm saying that unless you need some of the features that nVidia offer, you'd be best off going red unless you can/want to wait for the 680M.

My M14x shipped from Nashville TN on 4/30 and FedEx tracking shows delivery scheduled before 3 PM today. The odd part is my order status is still "In Production" and shows "partially shipped". I'm still trying to figure out how you partially ship a laptop. FedEx shows the package weight as 11 lbs so it has something in the box.

Did you order any accessories (mouse, bag etc) at the same time? These usually ship separately.

Hopefully the Fedex man won't show up with just an HDD and some ram sticks lol ;)

Same here. My order says also shows that my M17X is "In Production" but also "partially shipped" with a FedEx tracking number. I do not have an option to view the packing slip.

The delivery date is still listed as 05/23/12 but the tracking number shows that it is scheduled to be delivered by 3:00 PM today. In fact, it is in my town at this very moment. The FedEx site shows that my package is 20 lbs.

Why would a laptop be listed as partially delivered? I did not order any accessories. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I ordered on 04/24/12. I just chatted with Dell order support (different from sales support) and they told me that indeed the entire system has been shipped. They said that the "Partially Shipped" status on the webpage was a technical error. I was not expecting to receive my system until much closer to the stated 05/23/12 shipping date.

It'll arrive in pieces most likely. You'll get the keyboard, and the rest of the parts will be held for ransom.

On a serious note, I ordered my R4 on 4/24 (last Tuesday) and my date is 5/25. If all this is true, should I expect my system within the next week?!

I ordered on 04/24 too however was given an EDD 05/25. Interesting my CC was charged the next day (was told it wouldn't get charged until it shipped). I contacted Allan since it couldn't have shipped yet; it got refunded and now it's just been in "production" for a week now.

I'm curious if your system is arriving with the Ivy Bridge upgrade, or? It seems awfully fast in terms of production time for it to be done in less than a week. Not that that's bad! Just wondering if you're getting the latest stuff along with that early date.

Hah! Yes, maybe there will be a ransom note! The last time I ordered a Dell laptop was probably about 4 years ago. I didn't order any accessories at that time, but for some reason they did ship the battery and the cord separately from the actual laptop. Patience, patience, patience... I will know what they shipped when I open the box.
