Yea...i couldn't believe it. I mean..it's like putting a 4 cylinder motor in a Ferrari that should be utilizing a high performance V10. I hope Bill can help me clear this up. Other then the SSD, M14x R2 is perfect for me.

On the M14x R2, is there any noticeable performance increase from the 2 GB video card option over the 1GB, or is this the 555M with 1.5 GB versus 3.0 GB all over again?
-
Thank you...I hope I don't have to return this laptop. Loving it as I'm playing with it right now. Ideally, if AW can send me a PM830 msata, I'll exchange it, then return the PM810.

PM'ed you my info and thanks for getting involved.

Okay call me stupid but the DM is the Order Number correct?
-
It won't let me direct message someone who is not following me so i have no idea how to send a message. -
Dell really should offer the nameplates as a separate item. They would make excellent margins on a piece of metal with some metal engraving and people wouldn't mind paying like $10 a pop for one. It probably costs less than a buck tops in cost for them to make...

Twitter-
I mis-spoke just a tad. You have to follow @DellCares, then send them the message that you'd like to check order status, and maybe add "follow me, please" to the end of the tweet. Then once they are following you, you can DM them your order number.
DM=direct message. It is a private message.
Reply, aka mention, aka @message=a public message or mention of that person. Used to say things you want publicly either to or about someone.
So, create a Twitter account, go here, click "follow," click the drop down at the top-right (little head and shoulder silhouette icon), and choose "Tweet to @DellCares." Then send them this message: "Want to check order status. Please follow back, so I can DM my order #" Then when they follow you (you should get a public reply from them or an email notification that they are following), go back to their Twitter page again, and hit that drop down again. This time choose "Send a direct message," and type in your order number. You can just refresh you own Twitter page looking for their replies, or you can use a free Twitter client. I use Tweet Deck. -
"Initial date of delivery is scheduled as 21st May however as system is still in "In Production" and will update in case of any changes ^PV"
Whelp, should have known this was going to be their response. -
I guess we should just wait then.
considering most of us recieved overnight or 2nd day dilivery shipping I think it's safe to say we should get ours within the next 2 weeks. -
I need some help with this: How do I configure the system so that it uses the 7970M for all programs rather than the default integrated graphics card? -
Speaking of this, is there any driver support at all out there for the 7970M yet? If there is, maybe you already have Enduros on your system, which should let you shut off the Integrated chip.
Otherwise I'm sure you could turn off integrated video in BIOS. -

haha sorry for being a bother! Kinda paranoid after order being cancelled 4x -

Well well well!!!
Dell/Alienware Australia quietly updated the cpu's for M18x to Ivy Bridge and GPU to 675m but havn`t mentioned anything about it being M18xR2.
Same goes for M14x.
I think I am not going to wait for 7970m and just order 675m SLI, since I am mainly going to use the system for photoshop and if it comes to getting a pair of 7990`s (or 680/690 for that matter), i would do it later
Now if Bill can clear my confusion about the 3x SSD's offered -
If we try to apply logic to what PV was seeing on his screen (this is tricky going), we could infer a couple of things. "Ship date" is supposed to mean it left the factory by boat or air- most likely boat. Which means it's sailing over the Pacific now. If so, it will probably beat 5/21. However, if it has to go to the fulfillment center for additional parts, it might take all of that 5/21 date to get there. He has no visibility as to whether it's routed to the fulfillment center or not, so he has to stick with the only rock-solid date he has, which is the EDD.
Having said all that, I bet you get it in about 2 weeks tops. Just a total guess. -
Are shipping notifications emailed? Someone earlier mentioned they got a call informing them of the state of their build.
Just curious as the wrong phone number is in my order confirmation. (Didn't think it mattered as my shipping address was fine) -
-
@vs3074 I think it's 1@mSATA and [email protected]". I'm checking though.

@Bill:
First off, thanks. You've been a great asset.
Here's the Item # for the CPU in question: 317-9697
BOMs away! -
Anyone from the uk know if theyve had their processor upgraded to ivy bridge yet?
Sadly i cancelled my order earlier before bill posted that its technically impossible for the new i7 models to be shipped with sandy bridge...
Every "uk" rep i talked/chatted too told me this wasnt the case and that i would have to re-order if i wanted ivy bridge!
The reps not knowing their stuff just cost dell my order, and im sure im not the only one! They really need to know what they are selling
Good to see people receiving their new IB alienwares, pwn away!! -
Hey bill, thought I'd stop bothering you on twitter and come bother you here on nbr
now I know you said may 5 for the m18x r2 in Australia, but do you have a target date for the 7970s coming to Australia yet? Just that you mentioned a date for Canada, thought the situation might have changed!!
Cheers for all your ongoing support
Oh Jesus, judging by the australian prices, I'll be importing anyway! 3299 base model for m18x r2, 300 dollars more for the 3820qm D: thank god for hidevolution! In which case, bill do you know when the 7970s are released in the US? -

I just noticed they put a Samsung PM810 in mine also!!
What the heck? I paid for a 6GB/s 256GB SSD!!
Bill can you check on mine too? -
IMHO the whole freaking Dell team should know everything Bill knows...
I just hope I get mine within the next week or so, I'm sick of waiting -
Not looking good ... but I am SURE that Bill will get to the bottom of it!
(well...I hope so any way!!) -
I trust Bill will make it ok.
-
-
And why do you buy SSDs from Dell again? Replacing a hard drive takes 5 min and involves unscrewing a few screws. Nothing else. Nobody can go wrong with it.
-
I don't know what the deal is, but engineering never qualified the 810 on this system, so there's no way besides an oversight this is happening. If the trend continues, we may see a few orders get through that have already had the wrong SSD. Bottom line- we'll make it right at the factory, and we'll make it right for everyone who might get an 810 instead of 830. The good news for everyone else in the world is you guys spotted this on the first systems shipped, so we can correct this situation for who knows how many others.
Thank you for noticing and posting about it. -
Info Sent.
I sincerely appreciate you looking into this Bill. Thanks again!!! -
cool the australia site has the new models
-
And there's no option for 7200rpm drives -
OK SO I'M GONA GET THE M18X R2 (THE AUSTRALIAN BASE SPEC MODEL EG IT STARTS WITH DUEL 675M(I WILL GET DUEL 7970MS INSTEAD) AND BETTER PROCESSOR ETC)
now the only question is......BLACK OR RED? -
-
I knew it.. German Dell Page/Support is just horrible, they don't even know what the SKU Number is -_- They need to be changed D:
New M17x R4, M14X R2 and M18X R2 are coming - Speculation thread.
