Well I guess we should start by identifying the problem:

What are the latest drivers you successfully able to install on each operating system?

From what Ive been hearing it's only the one's from Dell's site which are 179.85.

The drivers on Dell's website are newer but giving lower 3dmark scores that the one that comes on the resource dvd. Both work fine in Vista but I guess just older.

In Windows 7 the drivers on the Dell's website are the only ones that work but are not stable while running 3dmark, the system locks.

And can you install anything newer than the Dell drivers on Vista?

Never tried since they were working. In the other threads we were troubleshooting Windows 7 because we had nothing stable.

I assume you're referring to the newer driver downloaded.

You should try installing newest nvidia drivers on Vista then since there might not even be a problem. I thought Vandit was saying he couldn't get anything past Dell's drivers to install. Maybe he was just talking about Win7?

@phinagle: Yes he was complaining about Windows 7.

@don: the method on the first page doesn't work because if you cannot change the 280s without affect the 9400 and vice verse. So if I uninstall the 280s the 9400 becomes uninstalled.

So what do I try next??

I d/l the Dell driver from their support site and had a look.

From what I can tell it def is a custom driver and I am not sure how we are going to get this figured out. The inf has only the 9400 and 260/280's listed with a custom hybrid install package.

Anyone know ppl from lv2go?? Maybe they can help?

The way I see it is Dell will still be selling this system when Win7 launches. I am sure Dell will also offer Win7 instead of Vista.

So, we will have access to an official driver when that happens (via support.dell.com)

I can understand why Win7 may not work right now with the Hybrid support being up in the air so if Vista can get the latest drivers installed it shouldn't be a problem.

That said though the 185.85 laptopvideo2go drivers I posted on the first page have an install for Win7 with Hybrid support. Did you use the custom installer that came with that download when you attempted to install them on Win7 Mandrake? If so what choice did you pick from the drop down menu for GPU config?

Failed, same result. Screen becomes unreadable. I'll try the 186.18 version.

Edit: 186.18 won't even install. All that works is Dell's 179.85 but that driver was locking up on me during 3dmark06.

Edit 2: I'm sure I would be just as unsuccessful with the upgraded drivers and Vista.

my phone is acting up were i can't go back. so i assume it's still not working.

what i was trying to do is to delete the driver files to see what's not installing. so we can say it's the 9400 right. can you uninstall your chipset driver or is that a dumb question. maybe the chipset is rendering it unstable. install the chipset last or over the driver.

don- those l2v drivers just don't work with WIn7. End of story. Mandrake and I both spent countless hours trying to get the drivers working. I reinstalled Vista. I will just wait until better support comes out. Win7 isn't even supposed to be released before the fall, so I am not upset.

Did anybody manage to overclock the GPUs on this one? Ntune is giving me the option to overclock 9400m and that is it. Is there a way to overclock the SLI 280m GTX?

Well I'm not sure why everyone is having issues with the SLI in Windows 7

I'm running Windows 7 RC and i just ran a 3DMark06 benchmark and got a score of 14377. I'm going to download Vantage now and see what i get.

    Edit: I got a 3DMark Vantage score of 10144.

ok granted 3dmark06 is a little old now and vantage is the new benchmark

but even with that for uk buyers changing to the m17x is alot to ask

    i paid £1700 for my M17 + £250 for my quad

for £1950 i would get a pig of a m17x to get even a comparable system i would need to get the quad (assuming i sourced one from ebay for comparison issues) upped to the 260 sli (again roughly the same depending if you believe 06 or vantage) i would be seriously out of pocket, even more so if i went for the 280's

    AW are screwing us

edit : sorry for off topic, just nice to compare m17>m17x

    Alrighty,

    1. Uninstall all current video drivers.
    2. Install the 186.18 drivers & modified INF found here
    3. When Laptop is done rebooting it will be running on the 9400M.
    4. Install the Nvidia Chipset driver from the Resource CD.
    5. When Laptop is done rebooting you may still be running on the 9400M (i was), if so just use the FN+F7 combo and reboot like told.
    6. Now when your PC is done rebooting you should be able to use the NVIDIA Hybrid SLI trayicon to switch between the SLI and 9400M.

yes 06 runs in 1024x768 theres an option in the nvidia control panel if you want it to stretch the image to fill screen or keep aspect ratio. So im assuming 3dmark06 didnt crash?

Not yet. Changing the rez to 1280x768 goes back to 16:10. I'll see what the score is. BTW I'm running at 3.2Ghz right now.

Edit: 14534 @ the new rez.
