Mine took about half an hour. He had some problems finding the GTX 260M on his system (don't ask me why)..
Don't worry, these guys are a bit slack but they get the job done!
And congratulations on the i7! If you ask me, it really is an essential piece of hardware for these machines.
-
ah nice, i should have waited 5 more mins, i just got the email, with my specs and all that, but since i payed with creditcard instantly after talking it over with him, it went right into "bulding" stage. Sorry if i ask alot of question but there is stil 1 thing that iv not found any information on yet, and i was wondering if you guys could help me out just once more.
According to the invoice you get a "Name Plate Engraving : Generic", i was just wondering how and what will be on the plate ? my name who put the order ? or do i at some point get to pick what should be on the plate ?
Thanks again for all the help
-
I didn't think they were doing the custom engraving for UK customers..
It probably just says "Alienware" or "M15x" perhaps.
Can anybody clarify this matter? I'm curious also.. -
ah okey, well im from Sweden, and i forgott about that part, and i just noticed it on the invoice. So im guessing it will say something around the lines you just posted, but thanks anyway
"AlienFX Colour : Terra Green
Name Plate Engraving : Generic"
and so on -
Besides, I heard the name plate engraving adds a good few days onto the EDD. You don't want to wait even longer do you?!
-
ah probably hehe
, well they said it would take about 14 days for me to recive it, hoping their right
cause then it will be in perfect timing for my bday
-
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you mate!
-
all it says is Alienware M15x on generic name plate, how come you didn't customize it. And congrats on new system. also call customer support to check on the system, and ask to get it expedited sometimes you will get somebody nice and they will upgrade the shipping to next day or 2nd day. -
Ah well, when you build it you cant even see that you will get a name plate, so i guess you cant modify it. since its something they add in the end. but il be sure to ask
-
Dell validated my exchange of my SXPS 1645 (my new order of the M15x with i7 & GTX 260M) yersteday.
After 2 hours, my order was in Production and this morning, my M15x is ship !!!!!
Only 1 day for the shiping
It's very fast
-
waa still havent got my mail and i order via phone 2days ago
should i call my dealer?
-
Hmmm, thats worrying! Are you sure you had sufficient funds in your account? I would definately suggest ringing customer services or something, the confirmation should have come through within the hour...
-
yepp the funds is ok, thay even called me from england to ask me if i was me...
but i prob should call my dealer and cheek.
-
Just looked at my order status and received a big shock. Ordered day before yesterday, in production yesterday, shipped today?????????? How is that possible? Are they sending me a returned one? How can something like this be tested so quickly?? Although I am a little happy I am also worried.
-
I wouldn't be worried, i'd be happy, it's just now theres a price drop on the dell website that is £60 better than my quote, - which after my card refused to work, resulting in numerous calls from Lloyds TSB |Fraud department has caused me to send payment via cheque. But now, i'm going to seek another quote with this improved price.
Anyway, they can't legally give you a returned unit, it will be new, its just obviously very fast on dells part
EDIT : Just contacted dell and some nice rep has offered me £60 refund because of the recent pricing change. <3 Dell -
You wouldnt know the details of this rep would you, as ive only just recieved my m15x today and obviously paid the higher price. Do you think they would refund me?
-
The rep that offered me the refunded difference is called Deepa_Muttagi, you could ask to be transferred via dell chat UK in the initial comment section. (In case you wondered my favourite rep was away on Thursday and today, thus why i'm pointing to a different rep)

yes=9 got my mail yesterday=)

My UPS tracking no. still says "billing information received"...
Thats just silly... How can it take 6 days for UPS to get the system but only 2 days for them to deliver it...
Did Dell employ some illegal immigrant to carry it to UPS HQ or what?!
I want my system now! I've spent five years with this piece of crap and I'm feeling very impatient!
:*( -
I understand your pain friend, mines exactly in the same position. EDD was initially 11th Feb but now moved down to 4th Feb. UPS status says "billing information received" and provides a date of 02/02/2010 whatever that means. I hate this but i'm spending my time looking for a nice mouse to go with it preferably wireless.
-
btw, when it comes to intels i7 processors, is the "cheap" one completly useless ? or how big of a gap is it between em 3 : 720QM, 820QM and the 920XM
-
Thats exactly the same dates as mine!
I got a free TactX mouse with my M15x, its not wireless but the DPI is almost as high as a Razer Mamba so I'm pretty happy with that. Although I've never used a gaming mouse I'm greatly looking forward to trying it out! Have you looked into Razer mice? They're outrageously expensive but I'm guessing you get what you pay for. -
As far as I am aware, none of the i7's are to be looked down upon. Of course this includes the 720QM. For me its actually more than enough and a few hundred MHz does not justify the cost equivalent to another notebook. Unfortunately I can't guage how much of difference is between each. Anyway I went for i7 series since 8 threads sound soo much better not to mention showing of. LOL
-
Ah, thats true, i was thinking that 2. But since i never got around to look at any tests / benchmarks i got a bit worried like 2 days after i put my order. I Went for a 720QM too, mostly for the same reasons you did.
-
If you check out some of the sig's in the M17x owners lounge you'll notice that a lot of those guys have got the 720QM in their systems, so I wouldn't be too concerned if I were you. I doubt anybody would bother putting a low-end processor in one of those things.
As far as the difference between the three goes, I'm not too sure. I personally think the price difference doesn't justify the clock speed although Mandrake already mentioned that the 920XM has more to offer than a few extra MHz due to it being an "extreme" processor.
I think as far as value for money is concerned the 720QM is the better option for the time being. The other models will undoubtedly come down in price in due course, at which point it will be well worth grabbing one for an upgrade. -
ah indeed, my thoughts exactly, but once you put it in, you cannot just upgrade can you :S ? i mean, i know its possible on desktop computers since iv built a few of thous myself, and that ram and hdd and dvd reader is swap-able. Or maybe im just confusing myself here
-
Damned if I know. I know sod all about computer hardware really!
But from what I've heard, they all have the same socket, or whatever you want to call it.
These systems are supposed to be quite upgradeable. So I see no real reason why it wouldn't be possible. Provided you know what you're doing.
Which I don't.
Yet...
-
ah well in that case im sure you can send it back to em and they do it for you
makes sense that these machines would have that option really =)
-
The GTX 260M is back in Sweden now=)
-
Hurrah for Sweden!
I think these cards are available 24/7 if you call up though. Everyone who has phoned Dell directly has managed to get their hands on one as far as I know.
So, to those who are worried about the lack of 260M's I say this:
CALL THEM!
-
I've never once regretted going with the 720, considering the price gap and the new additions to the M15x configurator it seems like a good chip for the price.
-
Yeah i always call to order (when it is an option) you get better prises that way if you use the "magic words"
just that it surprised me when I saw it up on the website again, after not being available online this week
-
After talking with my rep, there never were any lack of cards, according to him it had something to do with taking em away to change some sort of number, so that if you had any problems with the card they could easily check which "generation" ur card belonged to. And in order to do this they had to take em away from the website, dont really understand why, but the good news is that there never were a lack of cards
-
So you mean that the GTX260M you can order now is a newer generation?
-
not really, poor choice of words from me, the only thing they changed is some sort of number, in order to keep track of when their made as far as i understand
sorry for the confusion
No more GTX 260M for M15X?
