From what I remember reading, in balanced mode in W7, you can expect about 2.5 hours out of the 9cell battery. Current owners please correct me if Im wrong!

    Lol I owned an Alienware M5550 in the past and damn, that laptop gets way too hot so I needed a laptop cooler. I hope that's not the case with M15x ^_^;

canada, so same build as US

as to temperatures, The M15 runs a lot cooler than my previous xps1530 did: after continuous use all day today temps are running 61 to 64 C so no need for a cooler

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about dropping for an Alienware M15X. Does anyone know if there are any good deals or coupons right now? So far the only thing I can find is 5% off for being a university student but I think someone mentioned finding a 10% off coupon??

Also I know there's quite a price premium for Alienware products and this would be the first time I'd be owning but how is the quality of the case and such? Hopefully not prone to scratches like my old POS HP :(

i'm thinking they are different actually. why would mine be the only one without BT?

i agree on the temps. i passed out last nite and left mine running. it was still cool to the toch all over when i woke up. my wife even made a comment about how it was unreal as her dv9000 gets warm in the palm rest areas and mine doesn't.

I'm not sure this is even a problem. Trying to force the 920xm to run in turbo/single core mode with a game that is known to run better and wants a quad core setting is a no no.

I was getting about 2:30 on power saver mode. I remembered getting about 2:00-2:15 on balanced. :D These of course were just estimates based on the following criteria:

    Bluetooth off
    powersaver on
    reduced LCD brightness
    Alien FX off

    Hope that helps. :)

i would get the 9 cell battery.
    Reasons:
-The notebook needs it :p if you want to be able to take it with u somewhere
-It lifts up the notebook so that air can ventilate a lot better
    - it lifts up the notebook so that the keyboard and screen is at a better position (my oppinion)

    :D

EPP stands for Employee purchase program. :D

Edit: Clay, it is really not that bad, it does not extend from the back of the laptop in the sense that it is giving it extra length, its just, for a lack of a better term, hangs down to give the laptop an angle when on a desk. It does not take away from the look of the machine. :)

Double Edit: Hey ultimate, when did you order yours? If it has not been 21 days yet, wouldn't you be able to request the difference or tell them you will return it? Just throwing it out there. :)

well i'm pissed off phone dell customer support get through to indian call centre where they read from a script i explain i have a question about the displayport and then get transfered to technical support another indian speaking person with no clue to what i was asking then transfered to another technical support english speaking guy but cannot answer question so puts me on hold comes back with an answer to a question i did not ask then i explained again now waiting for an e-mail reply from him when he can actually find someone who can answer my question.
now my question is did they include audio support for the displayport on their laptops i have contacted displayport .org and displayport does support audio and video but it is upto the manufacturers to include audio support when they install it

why on earth would they not incude it as they must realise that most people who buy this laptop with blueray would most likely want to connect it to an hdtv with one cable i.e hdmi but displayport to hdmi is the same one cable yet it looks like we will have to use more than 1
this is my first buy from dell and maybe my last

    I have NOT tried it yet, but;

The Nvidia Driver installs Sound Drivers for the Video Card by default.

So, the conclusion would lead me to believe sound comes true the same port as video. = 1 cable should do.

EPP is 10% and if you call and order over the phone, they take off an additional 4%.

I just ordered my M15x, basically maxed out, and it came to just over $4k before tax.

An additional 4%? I tried ordering on the phone last week and they quoted me 7% off through EPP and wouldn't give me any additional discount. How can I get them to honor this 4%?

The EPP came up as 10% when I logged in today. I clicked the chat link, asked them to call, and asked about the Buy Back Program, since there weren't any details on the site. She asked if I was ready to place the order and I told her that I wasn't going to order until I took some time to look for coupons... unless she wanted to volunteer any, in which case I would order now. She told me they would take 4% off for ordering on the phone.

Give that a try. If they don't offer it, it might depend on your configuration. Mine was at about $4700 before discounts, so that might have made them more generous.

Thanks, that information is extremely helpful, I will try my best to get them to give me that 4%!

Oh, one more question, do you know if that was 4% off the already 10% off price, or just stacked to make it 14% off?

For those wondering about BT - can't remember who asked

I chatted with Sales today and here is what I got

    11:06:06 AM Customer ApoNono
I was wondering if it comes with built in Bluetooth. I didn't see it listed in the Tech Specs at all

    11:06:34 AM Agent RR_XPS_Scott
Let me check but you might have to upgrade that in the "Personalize" options

    11:06:45 AM Customer ApoNono
I have already ordered one and made the assumption it was included.

    11:07:49 AM Agent RR_XPS_Scott
    It is already included standard

    11:09:04 AM Agent RR_XPS_Scott
If you want to confirm what I said you have to click the Tech Specs Tab

    11:09:19 AM Agent RR_XPS_Scott
It is not listed in your specs because it is standard in that system

I know the feeling ... I am not 48 but I still feel like a 10 year old waiting for a new toy at christmas. Use the 800 number to check the status. It was more up to date than the website.

Mine has shipped and I can't stop checking the Fed Ex Tracking.

Page 33 has a post from me with the information. follow the same prompts listed and you will get to where you need to be.

The website showed mine as "In Production" when the 800 said "Boxing".

You can check under the device manager to see if you have a BT daughter card installed.

I'll check later today too. My bud had a 820qm config arrive Friday to replace the craptastic Studio 17 with its woefully underpowered 3650 for WoW and Aion (which he said ran like gar-bahge on the 3650), so I'll take a gander while I give it the uber once over. I'm sure he'll plead his case, again, why I should play Aion, since we both play serious amounts of WoW.

actually i jsut found it. it shows in the one spec page but not in the config.
