E-mailed Alienware about my supposedly 512 meg GT240M Video card showing 1024meg.

    Just had an official response from Alienware;

The GT240M card has 1024 mg..

    End of massage..

There you go, what can I say

So your choice is really 240m with 1g of ram or 260m with 1gb of ram?

Is there someone we can contact regarding this BT situation? Has anyone been able to get any extra info? I have contacted a few people, and they all tell me it comes with it. Some have it listed, some dont.... strange.

I spoke to my Sales Rep at Dell and here is what I was told.

The GT 240M is not a 512MB video card. It is actually a 512MB x2 card.

    The 240M = 512MB x2
    The 260M = 1 1GB Dim

The person I spoke to confirmed this with the Tech Team. Not sure why they do not explain that on the website.

i don't think anyone who has it wants to disassemble their machine to see if the card is there or possibly somewhere else.

lgsshedden mentioned downloading the drivers not sure if that will fix yours or if you are actually missing the BT card.

Definitely not suggesting that at all (especially if some on here are uncomfortable with that), just hope that someone is willing to try the driver idea to see if a card shows up. *still crossing fingers* :D

Edit: Apo I do not have the M15x anymore, but plan to re-order. The bluetooth situation just has me concerned. :)

I am not brave enough to open my machine so soon after getting it either :)

I take it they (AAFES) couldn't provide you with a PO number so you could check yourself?

Also, when was your order date? Trying to get a feel for order to delivery timeframe...thanks!

Only thing I can think of is to try and connect something to it.

lgsshedden mentioned dling drivers and having it start working but he could not see the actual card listed under device manager.

Ok so i just got the windows 7 disc, from the windows 7 upgrade option. So i did a complete format and installed it.
I installed chipset drivers first, then Video drivers, then Network, then audio, then rest. I Rebooted after each install.
But now in my Command Center, there is only AlienFX? and When i try to force open the other ones i get an error message saying that they can't be opened.
this is the second time i install the os in 2 weeks, and i just cant get the Command center to fully work...

    Any help appreciated

NiklasBrock, I would honestly contact Tech Support and let them figure it out. it may actually be a Mainboard issue as others in this thread have commented.

    Roxy,
I saw this in another thread

solved the windows experience index problem by...
changing the SATA mode option to AHCI from IDE in BIOS

    Looking for other options now.

Edit: Option 2 - which I would try first

Check you disk for errors, indexing will fail if there is an error. Open the command prompt and run:

    chkdsk /f
    and reboot

Several sites I looked at reported this as fixing the problem

to see if the BT module is in place, make sure the BT driver is installed from Dell first then open the Bluetoth Devices tab and associate a mouse or similar -- mine works great and the BT mouse shows up in device manager even though the BT card itself did not.

katodog: what colour did you get?

roxy: let us know what wei scores you get : mine are 7.0/7.3/6.4/6.4/5.9

If not let me know and I will dig a little more. I didn't see many confirmed fixes from the other 2 options.

It looks like version 9.0.0.735 is the problem child

I know I am a bit late to the party, but Kaspersky has been having some problems under Windows 7. Kaspersky is aware of the problems and is going to fix the issue. Right now Norton and Microsoft's own Security essentials (free) are the way to go for no "conflicts". Of course you still always have your freebies like AVG and Avira. Hope this helps. :D

AAFES military buyers. Just a heads up...I ordered 24 Oct 09 and my M15x was delivered today, 3 Nov 09. Prior to delivery, I received zero shipping notification from AAFES and zero shipping notification from Dell. The only thing that saved me was my wife came home from work at lunch today and happened to be here when UPS knocked on the door.

Typing on it now and it is as awesome as you expect. I have a ton of homework tonight (on-line classes), but will update various things as I get a chance. With all the hullaballoo about how big it was going to be, it really isn't, and I'm coming from a unibody MBP...granted it's thicker, but design is really nice! More to come....

I ordered on 10/25 and received mine on 11/02

    Note: 10/25 is a Sunday & 10/28 - 10/29 is a Saturday & Sunday

So mine took 4 days to build. ( Mon - Thur) and it was shipped on Friday 10/30. Received it on Monday 11/02 because Fedex does not ship on a Saturday.
[ Shipping method was Fedex standard overnight ]

Mine was a bit longer. I put my order in on 10/19/2009. It shipped out on 11/01/2009 and is set to show up at my house on 11/4/2009.

10/19/2009 was a monday so it took them 10 business days to build mine and ship it out.

Depends on the game. What game are you trying to run? :)

Edit: Keep in mind, that just because you have a Full high def display, it is not recommended to run games at full detail on a lappy. Again, it depends on the game.

Been following this thread for quite a while and had to drop in and say thank you to all of you for posting your comments and experiences with the M15x. I'm sure there's a bunch of us out here, lurkers like me, that have benefited so very much from your combined wisdom.

Personally, I ordered mine on the 29th. I'm upgrading from a Sager 5793, which is a phenomenal machine, but I decided it was time to get a little more oomph from my notebook, and a teeny bit more portability (in size at least, the M15 actually weighs a pound more than my old 5793). I write about games freelance (PC Pilot magazine, and a few others in the past) which is always handy when it comes to justifying significant gaming expense to her indoors.

    Now, the interminable wait.

    Thanks again guys.

woohoo! just got delivery confirmation today, will be getting it on Nov 5th, down from their original EDD of Nov 10th.. ordered it on Oct 20.

bought it through the EPP website and contacted after-sales customer care as they slashed the discount from 7% to 10% a week after i bought it.. managed to get a dell coupon emailed to me :D waiting anxiously now for it to arrive, kinda worried about the BT issue tho. my printed order doesn't include the BT mini card T_T

So I just got M15x in today. I went ahead and used my $300 gift card I got from my boss and went to microcenter and picked up the one they had. Come to find out the machine gets a 18month warranty with it. I went ahead and took the stock 320gb 7200drive out and put in my OCZ 256gb SSD drive in it and I am in the process of installing windows 7 pro.

I don't have any real intense games installed but Grid is no lightweight and I get 45 fps on full graphics at 1920x1080. I'm loving my lappy :)

It's later today ... and still no pics :(
    lol

By the way... I finally received a tracking number for my own M15X! Hence, it left the "in production" stage when it got from malaysia to the US receiving centre and is now on a freight train (or so i was told) on the way to a Purolator distribution centre where it'll reach a Purolator delivery person at some point! My guess is it'll arrive on Nov 5th or so. I hope it gets here before the weekend at least :)

SO BRING ON THE PICS!! :D
