Sweet. I don't have much problem with shuttering on this system. But it would be a + in my watch to have it fixed. Can't wait!!!

getting a new laptop is something that is most likely to happen. i'm just in denial i suppose. -
turns out my monday delivery moved forward, so the day off i took on monday was for nohting however...
UPS have a distribution center not 5 minutes walk from where i work, a quick phone call yesterday ensured they kept it in rather than send it out and i went to pick it up 20 mins ago!
its on my desk at work and i will be playing with it for the rest of the day..
first power on thoughts "damn thats a pretty screen, and im just looking at vista setup...."
Also the black paint job on the cold magnesium body feels, mean, uncompramising and almost sinister.... -
Nice Biggy_Rox! Let us know abt the displayport to hdmi sound thing we were discussing a while back and see if you do get it.
-
Envious of those who get away with playing with they're new laptops instead of working....

Hello, an Alienware future-owner here
Just had 2 quick questions:
1) Is the SSD drive available in the UK, and if yes - how much is it, and how do I actually order it? Just call them on the phone? The reason I'm asking is because I saw a few posts that say it's available in the UK, but on the website the option was not available
2) Are the "Estimated Delivery Date"-s accurate? I realize it's at a quite high demand, but I find it hard to believe that a system can be in the "production" phase for 3 weeks
Thanks in advance for the help! -
1) Folks have been successful getting SSD's installed by calling on the phone.
2) EDD's are not all that accurate it really depends on your build. I wouldn't "plan my life" around the EDD thats for sure. Some EDD's were 3 weeks out and owners received their machine in a week or less, others have had EDD's 3 weeks out and finally received it after 6, it really depends on your build, their workload, and what they have in stock. Also the "Order Status" information isn't all that accurate either. -
Ok, I'll try calling them over the phone, but does that mean that I have to cancel the order, make the new one and go through the same process?
I would imagine that there is quite a substantial difference between the 7200rpm drive and a SSD one, and a few (or hundred) pounds more would make a difference.
Anyway, coming from a now really ancient machine (aspire 5920g with t7300 Core 2 Duo, 256MB 8600M GT, 4gb Ram) I'm quite looking forward to getting the M15x -
If you already placed an online order and wanted SSD's instead, you'd probably be forced to cancel your order and re-order with SSD's yes. Alternatively you could buy an SSD from then and install it afterwards (this method would of course cost more).

It was a rather recent order, so I didn't even have the option of Vista
Anyway, I checked around and it seems that SSDs are still quite expensive (on the alienware US site the upgrade is listed at $400 more, while 320 is 25 dollars more and 500gb is 75, if I can even remotely compare the prices (45 and 75 pounds to upgrade respectively, I think that an SSD will add up at least 300-350 more GBP to the price, which will put me over the budget right now). I think I'll upgrade to a SSD drive next year most likely together with some more RAM
Price & having to cancel an already in "production" order tipped the scales to the 7200rpm HDD at this moment
And again - right now I'm trying to game on a T7300 Core 2 Duo with 4gb DDR2, 256MB video & 5400rpm drive, so it'll be quite an upgrade even with the "slower" hdd -
Wow. I thought my UK ordering problems were behind me. Having ordered two machines on September 30th and been repeatedly told that I can expect both machines today or Monday (26 Oct). I decided to call dell UK and talk to someone about delivery. After about 20 minutes I managed to talk to someone who told me my laptop order was now delayed until Nov 17th at the earliest...

what makes this laptop 'feel big' is the depth. The width and hieght are fairly similar to other 15.6" laptops. -
Indeed, 2x M15x. I just got off the phone with a UK customer services representative. I did receive a 50 GBP discount per machine and apology for the delay and have been told they will arrive on the 18/Nov (slipped a day since this morning). I have come to the conclusion that is simply not worth getting upset about the delays. The M15x is something I have coveted since they reported the model earlier this year and like most good things, its usually worth the wait.
The customer services representative mentioned that the delay was due to a "software issue". He could not elaborate on the problem so sorry for the lack of details. -

>> Hi redback, thanks for the info. So which phase is your order status in now ? Is it still "in production" ?
Yup. -
if so, there goes my order....i've had to deal with that ed-up shift key with this crappy HP for much too long.
hnoestly, the moron/s who designed that keyboard deserve to go to jail for being es. -
the alienware is on the bottom, and my left shift key is a normal size!
looking at the other pics tho that shift key is smaller.. is with that...that blows
-
lol, i quoted the wrong image -_- the other images show it with the messed up shift-key
but....thank god
i'm going to ing cry if i get one with that crappy- shift-key -
ya idk what is up with that, i bet you could call and make sure they install a US keyboard if you explain and and moan about the crap of the Canada one..

I've got a bit of a problem:
I bought a 2.5" SSD drive, an OCZ Vertex 120 GB.
I've just got it out of the box and taken my M15x apart to fit it and the connectors on the SSD aren't the same as the hard drive currently in there?!
What gives? I thought any 2.5" SSD would fit? As long as it wasn't too fat, which this isn't, it's the exact same size as the current hard drive.. -
How do you attach pictures? I've taken a couple of the Vertex connectors and the drive bay to show you..
EDIT: It's okay, figured it - so how do I get this SSD working in my M15x?Attached Files:
-
-
is there some sort of adapter mounted on the old drive? was it in a tray?
-
all right guys, i would like to install windows 7 64bits on my new m15x...
- is it safe ?
- where can i find the proper drivers once the OS is installed please ? -
-
oh sweet
thanks a lot shadowarachh
-
still waiting on a bios update, dang it. but really love my M15X, just need a 7200 RPM 500GB drive, or a really cheap SSD
-
i keep refreshing the order status thinking magically it will change already! i bet the longest part of the process is the custom nameplate -
-
-
Thanks to NBR I just ordered the M15x.. Oh so broke

Hi guys, Just checked my order status and it went from "In production" yesterday to "Delivery" today but I still can not track my package via UPS yet. They say it may take up to 4 days to be able to track my package online. Anyway, I still could not believe that my order only took 4 days to "delivery phase" after reading redback's story that his order is delayed until next month. We are both with DELL UK. Should I call Dell to confirm that ?
-
Holey Smokes, my EDD just lost 2 weeks!! Went from Nov 17th to the 2nd.
20-Oct-2009 Order Received
21-Oct-2009 Work in Progress
24-Oct-2009 Manufacturing Build Complete
Me happy -
Anyone with DELL UK knows whether laptops are delivered by UPS or Syncreon. Because in their "FAQs", it says laptops and valuable items will be delivered by Syncreon and UPS only delivers small items like ink cartridges... and does not require signature on delivery. In my order status, It links me to UPS and I could not track my package at the moment so I am a little bit confused now
-
Btw, my order just swapped from "In production" to "Delivery", so the EDD of 13 November is indeed not that accurate
I should have it next week.
Chituan - i'm in the UK, and the tracking number shows that it's sent by UPS. It says that you might not be able to track the package for a few days. Don't worry, it's in the post -
Hi, to all
I have a M15 on order since Wednesday the 21th.
All basic specs, except for the 4 Gig memory, the 1920 screen and Windows 7Business.
Must admit, it raised a few eyebrows in the office when I ordered an
Alienware as my work machine when everyone use Sony Vaios.
So why would a 53 year old software designer get a Games Machine?
I get a rugged Alu chassis that can stand a knock and get rid of the heat.
I can connect a big Monitor (24 inch +) easy.
I get processing power to run Sever 2008, SQL 2008, Visual Studio 2008 and
Vista/ Windows 7 as virtual machine on top of it, all at the same time.
I can to run my computer for extended hours without thermal melt down.
I get an illuminated keyboard to demonstrate software in a darkened room (Projector).
If you look at it from that angle, my user pattern has a lot more in common with a hard core gamer then you might think.
Sony Vaio versus Alienware discussion is like:
How much water would you like in your Scotch Sir?
Around 4 atoms will do cheers!
Here we go , the eyebrows go up again...

The packing slip says it is delivered via UPS too so that's a good news. Btw, when did you order it ? I ordered mine on 20/10 and now it's shipped which makes me a little bit worry since they only built it in 2 or 3 days
so the quality might not be good
-
No need to panic.
I would not be surprised if Dell has Standard Configuration Units on the shelf.
So if your Order is not SUPER SPECIAL, they just send a readymade box.
Im sure, all is well.

With the big x-mass business coming up, Dell has ramped up there stock for sure.
If you look at some of the big markets like USA, with perhaps 20 30.000 M15 orders per week do you think Dell is building them to Order?
Windows 7 computers are build well in advance to the official shipping date, just that they were not allowed to send them out before 22th of October.
And with the bios, they know about it long ago.
The first who get the new bios files are the manufacturer and then the Customer via Dells web site.
Again...no panik
