Has any of you encountered DPC latency spikes = audio loss and popping sound while playing music with your latest M15x? I am having it badly. :( Still no fix.

Currently I am using Win7 and IDT HD CODEC driver, and the music plays real bad. :(

Is anyone else having the above mentioned problem with their audio? Also, the touchpad lag issue is a bit of a worry. I do use the touchpad quite alot. Especially if on a plane, or out and about.

With the touchpad, did u upgrade to the A01 bios? and what touchpad drivers are you using?

IN re-guards to the audio, once again which drivers?

I just gotta say when I got the M15x I had intended to use it as a secondary gaming rig but after using it for a while now it's fast becoming my main gaming rig :) Everything runs so well and looks awesome through the TV. Since I use the G13 keyboard I don't have to get used to new key layouts.

Dragon Age, fantastic game! Started playing it yesterday and am totally hooked :D

I'm not sure if this would fix it, but maybe you should try finding modified drivers. If it doesn't, I guess you have to call Dell.

Do you really have to burn the 4mb bios update ISO file onto a disc to install it?

BACKDOOR to the old order status!

1)Call 800-283-2210 = this is the DPA phone number so don't get worried

    2)Follow prompt #3

    3)Now, select business/epp selection #2

    4)Track order option #1

5)Then do it again - track order option #1

    Hope this helps Ryzan. :D

everyone is doing the bios fix, as with out it the touchpad/keyboard on battery are almost unusable..

Doing it with a CD is easy and takes maybe 5min.
plus then u have a CD with the bios fix, so if u ever have to totally reset your computer back to defaults u have the bios on CD for an easy install

resetting the software back to defaults will not affect the bios. its flashed onto a chip, not the HDD.

JL3D - are you sure you don't already have the updated bios? when was your delivery/purchase date? you can check by looking at the main bios page when you boot up the machine and hit f2.

Dell should give me commission for selling these things lol

Just got confirmation from Dell that my m15x has been shipped and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Finally... and within a week of having ordered it!

Hmm... I haven't decided yet on whether I should pick it up in person or let the delivery guy drop it off at the house. Either way, I'm getting off early tomorrow.

It sure does. With full graphics, 8xAA, on dual screens at 1920x1080 I get 30 to 40 FPS and it drops to about 20 frames during the messier battles. For those interested my CPU temps peak at 67c, idle while in game is 58c.

Edit: Oh, and a workmate is thinking about adding a M15x to his house renovation budget after seeing me play Dragon Age at work :)

well mine arrived about 2 hours ago and i love it :D
the screen, speed ,and windows 7 is quick to start and shutdown
spent last 2 hours updating and installing stuff.
my bios is the latest 1
(easiest way to check your bios version is click start then type in the search box msinfo32) and it will disolay details.
got mine connected to 40in sony bravia via displayport to hdmi cable and its stunning my tv is full hd so no need to adjust resolution
tested blueray movie and all i can say is :D :D :D
love the lights just need to get surround sound now to really enjoy movies
1 problem found while watching video on youtube shockwave crashed
adobe does not support win64 browser yet for shockwave
you have to use a 32bit browser

First Post: I've read part 1 of the "All Poweful" M15x Owner's, and partially read the part 2,(I'm not done yet) . I'm getting the M15x (hoping to get it with the bios A01 already installed...). I'm partially unsure of how to configure it. I am coming from a Dell Inspiron 6000 so anything the M15x has will be light years ahead of my current lappy. This is how I'm viewing it now. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Alienware M15x : Cosmic Black

    Processor : Intel Core i7 820QM 1.73GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)

Display : 15.6in Wide Full HD (1920 x 1080) WLED or the 900p ? I'm not sure and have read the conflicting data here.

Memory : 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz IS this what I want?

Hard Drive : 500GB Serial ATA (7200RPM) IS the SSD that much better?

Optical Drive : Slot Load Blu-Ray RW (Blu-Ray, DVD and CD read & WRITE) Do I really need this? I already have a PS3 with a 40inch LED Sharp T.V. ...and if I decide not to, do I need the 1080p sceen?

    Battery : Primary 9-cell 85W/HR LI-ION Is a MUST

    Graphics : 1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX260M

The 900p is enough for me, but if your not getting the blu-ray drive to watch movies then i would think u would want the HD screen..

If your going to use it on batter alot then yes get the 9-cell..
if your going to keep it plugged in the 6cel is more then enough.

4GB is enough memory for me and i can play crysis on 1600x900 Highest settings, and Empire total war on highest settings...
(But i do plan on upgrading to 6 or 8 GB in the future..)

For processer look at Cost vs Benefit between 820 and 720. 720 give you the best performance for the dollar. Upgrading to the 820 is nice but only if you have money to spend as it is a minor increase in performance.

Screen is completely preference. For gaming purposes the 900p is perfectly fine. In fact on such a small screen the difference between the two is almost negligible, but its there. (If your not gonna use the 1920x1080 resolution then 900p is probably the route to go.

1333MHz memory is supposed to provide an increase in performance over the 1066 when using the i7. I still have not seen benchmarks but logically makes sense. Generally speaking this will not be a choke point 4gb ram is the money spot right now when it comes to ram. I chose to go with the 1066 and upgrade later (when its cheaper and I feel the need to upgrade.. as of now ram will not be your choke point)

SSD will probably be the single largest improvement in your current setup. For me the cost is too much and will be upgrading down the line when costs drop as they always do with drives. Easy to upgrade the M15x.

No need for blu ray if your not going to use it.. It's only good for movies. But in the end this is a preference if you want it or not. I choose not to as I have a blu ray player and and videos from my laptop are usually streamed/downloaded and will be on the tv via the display port

As posted above.. just depends on plugged in or not.

If your gaming.. this is a must.

And as a last note.. these are opinions only. In the end its up to you and your budget.

I was wondering if it's a good choice to wait till Black Friday to purchase an m15x.
Does anyone else have experience with previous years on BF?

Also, does the EPP stack with Black Friday offers?

    Thank you :D

Did someone on this (massive) thread say they could get the AC adapters for the M15x for $60? I may need an extra, but dell wants $120 for them. Thought I read this somewhere, but thread search turned up nothing.

Just make sure you are on the High Performance power management settings, and you have turned off Stealth mode (the stealth light will be less dim than the others). If you don't, you're going to eat humble pie real quick.

i like the higher res personally. dump the processor upgrade and opt for the SSD.it's definitely the best upgrade and biggest bottleneck. also most are saying that 1333 vs. 1066 isn't going to be a major difference.
