Looks like a good machine to me. The differences to my own are the screen and the SSD. The SSD is going to add significantly to the perception of speed from your beast, and I think you are going to love the screen.

Outside of that, it's a nice machine and you won't regret it.

Almost everything maxxed, on a 1680xx1050 screen. I have no idea on the FPS but it's smooth as silk. I don't use AA but suspect it would have little impact.

Thanks for the quick reply. But since I know arma 2 has coding problems I guess we will just have to see how it runs on my system.

It reduces performance to limit the power drain when plugged in for situations like on a plane. I ran some benchmarks and when stealth mode is on the video score was reduced by 60% and the CPU score reduced by 65%. Not at all good for gaming ;)

just out of curiosity, what happens if you are plugged in on a plane and dont run stealth mode? Does it drain from your battery slowly too? Or does the plane suddenly need to turn off half their flight systems due to a "battery power anomaly" :p

p.s., am currently installing dragon age!

I only ordered a 250gb Sata 2 HDD because in no time the price of SSD drives will come down a lot....as they have been already, I just cant justify paying 600+ for 200gb of storage! lol.

Yep! In fact, I think this Gamestop sold over 200 copies (or something like that) and that's why they're going all out tonight.

They sent me a text invite to my phone and mentioned I'd get 25% more toward any trade-ins... But, yeah. It's suppose to be a really good game.

i wouldnt say the performance is huge but for bang for buck i would go what i listed. The kingston hyperx memory has the lowest timings and latency its just to bad they dont make bigger kits than 2 2gb sticks i want 4gb modules....on a sidenote add ssd drive and the memory upgrade u def will be flying along

Guys, I'm having problems with my brand new M15x's performance. I have one of the most overpriced, expensive gaming laptops in the world that can’t even play any games! I'm thinking there may be something wrong with it or I guess I had too high of expectations and listened to all the BS posts about people gloating on how fast their M15x is on this forum. Let me begin:

    Core i7 720QM
    4GB DDR3 @1333MHz
    WideFHD 1080p
    1GB GTX 260M
    128GB SSD

I can't play ANY games on decent settings. There's dozens if not hundreds of people here saying "omg I can run crysis and farcry 2 on ultra uber settings with super smooth gameplay on max resolution" I can't even run VERY OLD games above 30 fps and modern games are unplayable around the 10 fps range.

First let me say that yes I'm not on Stealth mode and my power options are on high performance and I don't have anything major running in the backgrounds to significantly reduce my performance. I have built dozens of computers in the past so I’m not really a newbie on how computer stuff works. Here are my 3D Mark Vantage and my Windows Experience Index Scores:

    3D Mark Vantage
GPU Score: 4902, CPU Score: 3708
    Windows Experience Index
Processor: 5.1, Memory: 6.9, Graphics: 6.8, Primary Hard Disk: 6.8

These scores are actually on par with reviews and benchmarks of my components but for some reason I can't play any games at enjoyable settings. I also realize that the GTX 260m is basically about the same as a 8800GT desktop card but I expected way more out of the games I'm playing which are really not that demanding (I'm not playing Crysis or Farcry 2 they're all Direct x9 games or below) I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or I'm just expecting too much out of such a small laptop.

Unfortunately I'm probably going to return this thing but I'm sure dell will charge me with the 15% restock fee since I have no valid reason. Too bad I wasted so much money I'll lose hundreds of dollars trying to sell this thing used now. Hopefully future buyers will see this post and avoid buying this thing and not listen to all the people gloating on performance that I ended up trusting and believing because I saw it SO many times and ended up buying since it seemed like the M15x could be a nice desktop replacement but I was wrong.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this laptop and everything about it so I’ll probably end up waiting till the M17x gets a refresh in Q1 2010 hopefully and get that instead with a max’d out processor and dual cards :( Any help would be appreciated before I lose a few hundred bucks. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but trying to run games at 1920x1080 is quite stressing on the video card, but I'm not sure that is the problem. Have you tried running games with AA off and maybe at a lower resolution to see if you get significantly high fps?

Make sure you have the latest Intel chipset and matrix storage drivers. Turn off any antivirus programs you may have running in the background. In the nVidia control panel, make sure vsync is set to off globally and that AA/AF are set to application preference. Download GPU-Z from www.techpowerup.com and check your clocks to ensure they are changing when you run a game. If none of the above works, uninstall your drivers, download the WHQL 186.81 drivers and install those.

I experience that occasionally even on other laptops. I don't think it's anything to worry about as long as it isn't too regular.

Well for starters, I would give alienware a call and see what's amuck. You might have a bad component somewhere... because i'm telling you, I'm getting blazing framerates all across the board. When i was playing dragon age last night, it was even playable on stealth mode (not amazing or anything, but probably ... 20ish fps would be my guess). Since they're goign to charge you this 15% restock fee over the next month or so, see if they can send a tech out to fix it or replace it. If not, then sure, send it in while you still can....

if you have far cry 2, give it a whirl on all ultra settings at the highest res and let us know how it fairs. Instead of playign really old games, try newer ones whihc may be optimized for these kiinds of newer systems.

Out of curiosity, what games were you playing anyway?

Those scores tell me that your video card is fine but your CPU is only 25% the speed it should be (check page 43 for my 3dMark Vantage testing). I'd have another look at the power options and make sure your maximum processor state is still 100%. I'd then check bios and make sure Turbo is turned on. If still no better I'd reinstall the chipset drivers from the Dell website.

I use the free version of Fraps.

    http://www.fraps.com/download.php

This is the download link for the free version. It only lets you do it at increments of time, but maybe you will get an idea. You can also look on youtube to find some videos on how to use it. Hope that helps. :D

I received mine yesterday and it was gorgeous. No dead pixels nothing everything smooth and really heavy.Love the sturdy construction.
However i have few questions and if any one can guide me about these

1.How to know whether ram is indeed at 1333mhz which i paid 100$ extra. On the system i can see only 6gb but nothing indicates at 1333mhz.May be in Bios can we find it.If so is F2 the command to invoke Bios?

2.How to make sure my computer is not in stealth mode.Is there anywhere we can check this

3.This is important one for me.My laptop came with Bios 01 but somehow i feel the left mouse click and right mouse click buttons on touchpad are too difficult to click.I have to keep full force on them to register the clciks.I have never seen any other laptop where i have to click this hard and i used xps, studio xps, macbook pro, envy etc.Is it same for everyone or is there anyway where we can tweak sensitivity and if so can anyone let me know what settings they are using. Appreciate the help

Basically uninstall the mouse drivers.. and restart your system and windows will install its own default drivers.
