    ..ever noticed:

    It says in the Bios Performance Options;

    Memory channel mode: Single

I thought it supposed to be double ?

Hey everyone, Im new to this forum. Im thinking about getting the new AW m15x, but have read both good things and bad things about it (mostly from the old m15x version though). I was just wondering what you all think of your laptops, because this is going to be a pretty big investment and I want to be sure it's a good buy. This laptop is going to be mainly used for school but I would also like to play games such as COD MW2 and such (would I need an external fan?) Thanks for the input!

it is because of the criticisms of the old Area51 m15 that the new All Powerful M15 was introduced in September -- completely new machine, better build quality, i7 core etc. -- read the posts here from people who have the M15 and they love it, all we are doing is getting to grips with its foibles, maxing its performance and playing with our new toy.
When the first one who owns one actually uses stealth mode on a plane we may even come to appreciate why it exists! But in the meantime, if that's our biggest gripe, you have one great laptop!

ok, so we have some saying stealth mode is on when the light is bright (same as the wifi) and some when it is dim. Two questions:
    1. how do you test/measure if stealth is active or not?
    2. has anyone worked out a fix to either deactivate stealth capability for those of us not flying with our M15 and/or worked out a re-mapping of the that media button to some other function?

Just returned a spec'd up dv6t from HP as they don't seem to support Linux whatsoever. Bought the m15x for significantly more...

Anyone installed Ubuntu or some other distro on these machines yet? I've always had great Linux support for the Precisions, but I might need to RMA/cancel if there are issues with linux support for this machine.

Because gaming rigs are useful for scientific computing, especially GPU computing? Sorry if you're offended that machines might actually be used for something productive.

Aren't you sick of paying restock fees? I know that Dell charges 15%. I was going to return my M15X, but they offered me a $200 refund to keep it. So I did. I ended up paying $1495 for mine after the "refund"

Nope, I bought my 15X to load Windows 7 on and play games, do trip reports, expenses, read email and surf the web. I am not an Academic, nor a Linux programmer, I am an Army Contractor. I travel all over the world, and I needed a laptop that acts like a desktop. I am sorry that I am not cool enough ((currently sipping tea with pinky in the air)) to spend my time and money buying laptops to load with linux and do "GPU loading" tests....

Its good to finally see some reviews coming up on Youtube. Still a suprising lack of them though for some reason. I am very interested to read any comparo reviews out there between the M15x and the Sager 8960.

Because you said "He probably doesn't know about CUDA." (when I read the post your voice sounded like Thurston Howell the 3rd from Gilligan's Island) as if to say "Look lovey, he doesn't even know about CUDA, he must be working class..." That is all.

Interested to know why you just did not order another np8690? Were there issues other than the fan? I decided, living in Canada, it was just too risky to go with as I would need to ship it to the US and back for any repairs or pixel issues. I didn't care too much for the look of it either, but I was impressed with the benchmarks and that monster 280.

Academics, GPUs, and Linux are useful if you want to do something like engineer vehicles capable of withstanding IEDs or figure out how to reliably supply an army spread over the entire world in the event of supply shocks or targeted attacks. But I'll just get back to sipping my tea or whatever the hell you think people do and you can live without better technology.

I just might order another 8690, I haven't decided yet. I'm waiting to see if Clevo releases a bios update to take care of the fan noise. Even though mine had defective fans which manifested during load, the idle noise was still far too loud. The G51 in comparison was much quieter during idle and load. The 8690 sounded like a hair dryer at load and not much quieter during idle. The M15x is for my gf but if I end up liking it, I'll order one for myself as well.

Some people just flip their underwear inside out and reuse them.

    That's what Roxy is for.

The KGB has enough intel on the subject "M15x."
